Inspired by another chat in AIBU I wondered what clas you'd put me as? I always thought I was middle but maybe I'm WC?
Dad was a delivery driver, mum was a barmaid. Went to a private primary, paid for by grandparents (which is why I thought middle?) then a grammar secondary. Left with GCSE's only. Worked in banking for a while, fairly well paid at the time. Left when I had kids and now work for a charity, earn less than 30k. Live in a mortgaged 3 bed semi, but BC it's in London it's worth about £600k. So what am I?

Lower middle class, like most people.

MollysBrolly · 06/08/2023 20:22

London Lower like wot we all is

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 06/08/2023 20:31

I concur with lower middle.

hadhimoverabarrel · 06/08/2023 20:33

I just did that calculator and apparently I'm elite which is hilarious

LizaTarbuckForQueen · 06/08/2023 20:35

Upper working / lower middle.

Sabrinasummersamples · 06/08/2023 20:38

That BBC test doesn't load for me. What a shame. Looks like exactly what I need

Me too @hadhimoverabarrel !!

barbieseyebrows · 06/08/2023 20:43

I am established middle class 👀

As I sit here in my leggings and New Balance hoodie with Primark fluffy socks on

It's all nonsense

I was bridesmaid for a former MP once upon a time, and my best friend is a cleaner. I sometimes take my children to the theatre, and also do the ironing while listening to Snoop Dogg

Never pay any attention to class. Live within your means and make the most of what you've got. Do no harm and be happy

Mrsfussypants1 · 06/08/2023 20:45

I've just taken it. Established Middle class apparently, must be broken.

RuthTopp · 06/08/2023 20:46

Lol I'm established middle class as well.

DesolationRow · 06/08/2023 20:48

But our society doesn't judge what class you are only by your parents economic status, your income and the type of job you do, it also includes your cultural interests, hobbies, who you socialise with, clothes you wear, accent... (and no doubt other stuff but that's all I can think of off the top of my head).

pattyparsnip · 06/08/2023 20:49

Established middle class and we didn't go to university Shock.

ArcticSkewer · 06/08/2023 20:50

Also elite, it's definitely broken.

Op I would have said working for you, or working class origin maybe lower middle now

topcat2014 · 06/08/2023 20:51

I'm technical middle class - what do I need to do to be elite :)

RhosynBach · 06/08/2023 20:51

I’m technical middle class apparently. Whatever tf that is. Daughter to teenage working class parents, grew up in council house, now a teacher and own a bog standard house in the north with a giant mortgage. Do not see myself remotely as middle class!

ArcticSkewer · 06/08/2023 20:52

ah the test is from 2011 ... explains why my low assets somehow put me as elite.

HarrietJet · 06/08/2023 20:52

Haha, ditto!

Merapi · 06/08/2023 21:13

It says we are established middle class as well.

Serves me right for having a ballet dancer in the family. 😂

Comedycook · 06/08/2023 21:16

Lower middle. Your parents were working class.

DirtyDuvet · 06/08/2023 21:18

the survey is salary driven though?

OP. I would have said that the traditional view of class is driven by income and education (which is bollocks)

You are not university educated and have a lowish income

MollysBrolly · 06/08/2023 23:30

I'm the poorest and most deprived according to the calculator - get me and the 'most' part 😂

ConsuelaHammock · 06/08/2023 23:39

Working class

Panfriedscallops · 06/08/2023 23:49

Elite! As the child of a broken home in the seventies with a council house upbringing, zero private education, finished school at 16 with a clutch of CSEs, check me out 😂

Cynderella · 06/08/2023 23:53

I was brought up in a council house - that screams working class, and there's much more I could add.

Now, uni educated, a teacher, middle class habits, but I consider myself to have working class values. So, lower/middle middle class depending on what criteria you're using. I may read The Guardian and Ian McEwan novels, but I don't have that self assurance that 'real middle class' people had when I was younger.
