Are seaside fish and chips the best?

Inspired by the recent post on the price of chips and the holiday season I wondered if people think fish and chips really do taste better by the seaside?

I'm inclined to think they do! 😋

I went to Brighton a month ago, went to one that was rated highly, 40 mon wait as it was busy. To be honest I couldn't say it was the best it was just fine 😐

My fave chippy is inland in Barnard castle, but I'm not telling you which one it is 🤣 Divine though. Cracking ice cream parlour there too. And sweet shop. Great day out all round, castles, walks, pubs, shops. It's got everything.
Second fave is Downey's in seaham and third fave is the almighty cod at Seaton Carew.
Sea air helps but it's not the be all and end all. Don't let nostalgia get in the way of a great dinner 🤣

Ooh, could you recommend some? I live in Leeds but do trips to the coast, anywhere between Saltburn (I know that's not in Yorkshire) and Hornsea and I'm always looking for new places to try.

@FatAgainItsLettuceTime I'm well versed in 'the gulls' and have seen many a stern notice warning people to watch out for the gulls and also not feed them, so I was surprised when we were watched but not harrassed by some gulls while eating fish and chips in Redcar. Colleague who I was with said 'the gulls are very polite here' to which I replied, 'I know, if we were in Whitby, they'd be on our laps eating off our trays'.

If you go just a little bit further north to South Shields, Colemans do the best fish and chips. The beach is lovely too.

I had a terrible fish and chip meal in Brighton. Really disappointing. Didn't taste at all like fish and ships should. Tasted like Tesco value.

Best I have had have been in St Ives, Torquay and here in Bath (at our award winning very posh expensive one- )

Thanks for the replies and PM about the fish and chips.

Colemans is actually on my list (yes, I'm that enthusiastic about this that I have a list of places to try and plan walks/days out around getting there) but annoyingly I haven't been to SS for years, its a bit too far north for leisure. I used to go there quite regularly for work but the job that took me there ended.
