Autistic Women Assemble! #2

Nepmarthiturn · 06/08/2023 11:18

Helloooo lovely people, a new thread for a us to continue to chat and connect with other autistic women (small talk and word mincing not required). 😊

As before, anybody newly stumbling upon this is very welcome to join us (even if still awaiting diagnosis). But we'd be grateful if others could leave us alone please, like the NT man we encountered in thread #1. 🤣

Hello. I'm back after a while! I haven't caught up with the thread, but when I last posted, I was self-diagnosed and concerned that that wasn't correct.

This has moved on, and I'm (as of today) formally diagnosed with AuDHD. Speed is one of the benefits of not being in the UK and a private healthcare system.

I'm not quite sure where I go with this. Currently trying to work out whether I should tell my boss or not. What have others done in terms of putting a diagnosis on the record at work?

RainbowZebraWarrior · 27/10/2023 18:23

Bloody hell, Shell

"Don't get me wrong, I love him but he's ruined our lives"

"I love parenting NT daughter"

Fuck off. Just fuck off to these people. Its almost always a Friday night that these threads appear as well. I'm sure it was Friday night last week.

It was, Rainbow.

It always is.

I despair. It's starting to degenerate into how autistic you need to be to be regarded as autistic. You know, the usual crap.
Hmm

Oh and I have done all my Christmas shopping except main presents for the kids and DH (and that's because they haven't decided what they want yet). I am checking where I want to order the turkey from about once a week but they haven't opened orders up yet :)

Morrisons have!
I've got mine.

The turkey is coming from the butcher though.

@1066andallthatagain I'd give it a week or so for it to sink in yourself first. It's kind of weird when you feel like you know in your heart already, but official diagnosis sometimes takes a while to sink in. Practise saying it out loud to yourself first as telling other people (especially work) sometimes feels different to how you imagine it would.

I spent a week walking round the house saying to myself "I'm Autistic, I have Autism" to see how it felt.

Did the person who did your assessment ask you how you felt? I was diagnosed on the spot so to speak and he asked me "How has that landed with you?" He also asked again in some follow up emails during the weeks afterwards. My GP also rang me to ask if I needed support about a month later (this largely involved sending me a paper copy of some websites and support groups, but it was a nice thought)

I'm self employed, so haven't had to do the work thing btw.

1066andallthatagain · 27/10/2023 18:40

@RainbowZebraWarrior I think they probably did but I wasn't really concentrating on what the psychologist had to say, just the numbers in the report in front of me!

"I don’t often feel like DS is a second child tbh."

How the hell has that thread been left up? His own mother basically saying he is sub-human to her because he is autistic. Some people really should not have children.

Mumsnet lets this go all the time. I have been banned before for very little, simply defending myself against attacks from others. Yet this is fiiiine. I really do not understand their moderating. They'd never let comments like this stand if based on race, for example.

Congratulations on your diagnosis! It is weird and takes a while as others said to sink in, and re-evaluate everything now you know for sure. But I hope you also feel a sense of relief that you do know now.

I've been banned for odd reasons, too.
Oh well.................
Hmm

TheShellBeach · 27/10/2023 22:09

"Neurotypical parenting is amazing and honestly I would love a second child who engaged/functioned"

I don't understand why this thread is still up, either.

Because we all know that autistic people do not engage or function.
Hmm

TheShellBeach · 27/10/2023 22:16

You know something - the only post which has been deleted on that thread is the one where someone expressed dismay about being classed as "not autistic enough" ffs.

Nepmarthiturn · 28/10/2023 11:13

Aaargh. Whay do people do it? A poster who stated they were autistic even pointed out how offensive it was, and predictably was piled on and told they were being "mean". What gaslighting!!

What's everyone up to today? I am wiped out, but really need to get out in my garden and sort stuff out now it's stopped raining for a bit!

Well, we're doing the housework, then watching Strictly.

Our usual Saturday fare at this time of year.

TheShellBeach · 28/10/2023 12:21

Going back to that thread, I'd you AS the OP she had written multiple threads about her child, several about her impending divorce and one where she wonders if she's autistic herself.

TheShellBeach · 28/10/2023 12:23

I've ordered a new Christmas tree and baubles, just to set if the cat will knock them over.

You'd think she'd have a little more empathy for her son then!

Awwww 🥰🥰

Doesn't look in the mood to knock things over! Atm...

No, he doesn't!
I actually said to DH that I was going to get a new tree, just to see what Linney does with it.

In another thread she says her DH is a doctor who states she is a rare case of 'mixed neurodivergence'

You couldn't make it up!

Anyhow, hope everyone is having a nice weekend so far. I'm just pleased it's finally half term is here as I get to have a well earned rest from stressful school runs.

Nepmarthiturn · 28/10/2023 14:03

Our half term is almost over and I am dreading them going back! 😩 Hope you do get some well-earned rest.

Yes since when is this rare?! 🤣 It's well documented that a large proportion of ND people will have more than one of ASD, ADHD, dyspraxia, dyscalcula, etc...

I sinncerely hope no "doctor" would come out with such nonsense!

It's really not worth engaging with such people/ threads though, as I think so many of us have learned the hard way. The people writing these things are either so think and ignorant that you've no hope of helping them because they will be impervious to facts, research or data, or they are simply callous people being as vile and goady as they possibly can on purpose.

Oh gosh I went out today to the shops and to drop my DC off with his uncle as they're going to the football. It was so busy, could barely move. Thought I was going to have a panic attack. I hate busy places and crowds it puts me on edge. Couldn't stop shaking. It doesn't seem to bother my DC though and he's autistic too. Funny how we can all be so different

You're right.
I must stop doing it!
