A stranger gave me flowers today

A little boy of about 3 I'd say. I was just leaving a cafe and he walked up to me and held them up to my face, waving them slightly. I said "oh they're pretty" . He continued waving them. Several times. I looked around to see a woman watching, said "he's trying to give your flowers away" and she said "no, they're for you. We do something nice for somebody each week"

I said thank you, how lovely etc. And then gulped and blinked many times. I'm having a tough time atm . What a lovely way to brighten my day.

Was it one of those self serving tik tokkers who love to embarrass people to make themselves look good

Datafan55 · 05/08/2023 19:48

That's lovely :-)

grayhairdontcare · 05/08/2023 19:51

Look forward to seeing you on someone's social media

Whadda · 05/08/2023 19:52

I’ve travelled to far too many Eastern European and Med countries because my initial reaction would be to (gently because he’s a small child) push the flowers away and say I have no money before I’m swooped on for payment.

Afraid this was my first thought too

YukoandHiro · 05/08/2023 19:53

But I'm very glad it cheered you up :)

EarringsandLipstick · 05/08/2023 19:55

I wouldn't like this at all.

Perhaps well-intentioned but it's so presumptuous, deciding that a kind deed for someone is giving them a bunch of flowers, and I find the 3yo waving them in your face with mum watching utterly sanctimonious.

But - you were happy so I guess it all worked out!

Datafan55 · 05/08/2023 20:00

Lots of downers on here. Hold on to the warm and fuzzy feeling it gave you, OP!

PS a friend of mine does random stuff like this sometimes (occasionally she mentions it, and I have been a recipient before) and I have yet to see it on tiktok etc - it's just to cheer people up.

ArcaneWireless · 05/08/2023 20:01

The lovely thing about this is that, on this particular day, you needed them and they gladdened your heart.

Today that is all that matters. 🌻

Bemyclementine · 05/08/2023 20:06

Wow. Thanks.

Christ there's some cynics on this thread ain't there?! God forbid anyone do something just because it's nice eh?

I'm very glad they cheered you up OP.

Someone once handed me a bunch of tulips in the street, all so fast I didn't even register if it were a Man or a Woman before they'd gone in the crowd. I was having a terrible time just then and it really really brightened up my day (and this was years before sodding TikTok!).

User6424678852 · 05/08/2023 20:16

I think that’s lovely 😊

Rogue1001MNer · 05/08/2023 20:36

Do you wear Impulse?

countvoncount · 05/08/2023 20:39

I've done this myself, nothing to do with TikTok, it's just nice to spread a bit of joy now and again

Pebbles16 · 05/08/2023 20:41

Good lord how cynical are we all?

faban · 05/08/2023 20:45

That's very sweet

RumNotRun · 05/08/2023 20:46

A bus driver gave me some flowers once when we were at one of the waiting stops. He said he'd bought some in the reduced to clear section and just handed me a bunch. I was a bit embarrassed cause everyone was looking (or it felt like they were), but it was simply a really sweet gesture from a lovely gentleman. He looked like a really sweet older chap before anyone thinks it was something creepy or pervy.

Fuckitydoodah · 05/08/2023 20:49

Ah, that's lovely. Sometimes, it is just a random act of kindness.

I'm glad it brought you some joy OP x

Underthebell · 05/08/2023 20:49

Also surprised at the cynics here. I've done this with my child, not a tik tok or phone in hand to capture the moment. Just to try to brighten someone's day.

Glad it made you feel happy OP.

Hopeisthething · 05/08/2023 20:51

I’m sorry things are tough right now OP, really glad that kind stranger happened to choose you

AceofPentacles · 05/08/2023 20:56

How lovely.

A stranger gave me a bunch of flowers on the street once (think he'd been stood up bit it was still nice).

That's lovely op, happened to me once when I was walking out of the post office. An older lady gave them to me and wished me a good week. Being caught off guard with a random act of kindness is just the nicest feeling 🥰

Whadda · 05/08/2023 22:29

Sorry- I didn’t mean to be a downer.

Glad your flowers brought you some happiness, OP.

upinaballoon · 05/08/2023 22:34

In one of the self-help books there is a suggestion that you just do something nice for someone, like leaving a bunch of flowers somewhere for someone to pick up. This sounds the same sort of thing but the book was written before cameras in phones and SM, so who knows.
