If someone told you that their child was 23 and already earning £60k, would you believe them?

But if they stay on as an NQ then they will be overpaid for the first year or two.

Rainbowshit · 04/08/2023 17:34

Why not? It's not impossible.

gwenneh · 04/08/2023 17:35

Yes, provided there was context.

aneah · 04/08/2023 17:35

@Giveover80 Plus, the firm needs to recoup their costs for the GDL course or the LPC

explainthistomeplease · 04/08/2023 17:35

Yes. I know some graduate management consultants who started on 50k at 21 or 22 so by 23 I can believe 60k is possible. Are they worth it? Debatable!

VimFuego101 · 04/08/2023 17:36

I'd question whether the child was OK with their parent sharing their salary information - to me, that's very private. The actual salary seems plausible depending on their career path.

Janedoe82 · 04/08/2023 17:42

I did- working in recruitment many years ago.

ichundich · 04/08/2023 17:44

If they work in investment banking or for the MI5 etc. Maybe also possible in sales and recruitment?

Janedoe82 · 04/08/2023 17:44

In fact- there was a guy on the team at 22 who was on 200k. Loads of money in recruitment if you are good.

KnittedCardi · 04/08/2023 17:46

Completely believable. IT, Consultancy, Investment banking. The ones I know are all grads and working long hours and high stress. They definitely earn their money.

SadieOlsen · 04/08/2023 17:46

Plumber, banker, lawyer - perfectly possible.

InSpainTheRain · 04/08/2023 17:47

Yes, I would believe them. Perfectly possible dependent on passive income and finance/fintech jobs. However it'll probably be a cut throat environment and pretty tough.

ExplodingCarrots · 04/08/2023 17:47

Yes , some of DH work colleagues are early 20s and earn around this salary .

calmcoco · 04/08/2023 17:48

Yes

LabbyDabbyDoohDah · 04/08/2023 17:49

There are lots of graduate jobs in London that easily pay this.

Not just law (although that would be a high salary for a trainee, which is what you’d be at 21). The NQ’s at DH’s firm start on 95k at 25/6 (although that’s still barely enough to buy a flat.)

My godson (21), who is very good at hard sums, is starting as a graduate recruit for a US bank in London in September on 90k. I reckon he’ll be on. 200k in a couple of years.

DarkDarkNight · 04/08/2023 17:50

Where I live it’s very common for people that age and a little older to be on that kind of money. Lots of high earning apprenticeships in engineering, nuclear, project management.

ToughFuss · 04/08/2023 17:51

Well, I probably would given my friends haven’t any form for being bullshitters.

Crazykatie · 04/08/2023 17:51

I would ask what the job was, there are “Geeks” in many fields that can command that salary. If he/she turned up in a flash car that would confirm it.

fortnumsfinest · 04/08/2023 17:52

It would depend on whether you believe anything else they say but it is perfectly reasonable for someone that age to earn that figure

Lentilweaver · 04/08/2023 17:52

Of course I would believe it. MN posters never believe that there are high earning professions. Finance, tech, law...

olderthanyouthink · 04/08/2023 17:58

It would be believable in my industry if you were going pushing for it. At 23 I earned around £25k but when I was made redundant a few years later I was looking at £80k and up if I wanted to work full time

ThePoetsWife · 04/08/2023 18:01

Yes especially if you're in tech and finance. And you don't need to be based in London either.

This is based on what I know about my children and their peers.

Came to say the same thing.

50k when training fresh out of uni then 100k + bonuses once qualified.

parietal · 04/08/2023 18:02

with a good degree in maths or computing, you can walk into jobs with that salary. I know two kids who've done it straight out of undergrad / masters.

PlumPeony · 04/08/2023 18:03

Yes
