Dc drank rainwater

Are they going to be sick?

They were cooped up at home all day so when it finally stopped raining they went into the garden.

Rain had collected in the front loader bit of a toy tractor (if that's the technical term!). They were playing with it with some outdoor kitchen utensils.

Eldest was pretending to drink it with a cup and then mistakenly drank some. He said he spat it out but I'm sure I heard a gulp.

Little one was using a strainer spoon that she kept putting to her mouth, so she didn't drink any as such but would have licked quite a bit.

Could they get sick from this?

They'll be fine.

FloweryName · 02/08/2023 22:32

No, they’ll be fine.

Flickersy · 02/08/2023 22:32

What exactly do you think they'd get sick from?

vodkaredbullgirl · 02/08/2023 22:38

No

Haggisfish3 · 02/08/2023 22:40

No they will be fine.

fantom · 02/08/2023 22:42

Are you usually this anxious OP?
of course they will be fine

FrancisSeaton · 02/08/2023 22:47

Blimey had did any of us live into adulthood? I remember taking a sip out of my dads castrol GTx when I was a kid and you are mithering about rainwater?

Changingplace · 02/08/2023 22:48

Nothing to worry about OP, they’ll be absolutely fine

Ladyoftheknight · 02/08/2023 22:57

Are you always this anxious? They'll be fine, but this is an irrational reaction. Are you okay?

Merapi · 02/08/2023 22:58

If it had been in there a week and gone green and scummy you might have cause to be slightly concerned, but fresh rainwater would be fine.

Blueberr · 02/08/2023 22:59

It’s possible they could get sick if the water was contaminated with something but unlikely and you’d probably have known about it by now!

VinEtFromage · 02/08/2023 23:00

Depends what they'd been digging with the tractor previously! The rainwater is not going to do them one bit of harm!

RainRainGoAway26 · 02/08/2023 23:00

Haha yes I'm fine, I just looked it up and it came up with all sorts of bad things so it got me wondering!

Glad you all think it's not an issue.

I can be a bit too lax with letting them run wild and get dirty in the garden (my family always seems horrified) so occasionally I wonder if I should be a bit more on top of things and worry a bit more. This was one of those occasions. I'll carry on as I am!

😂😂😂😂

FrazzledMCPremenopausalWoman · 02/08/2023 23:01

My eldest fell into the canal aged 4, drank a decent amount by accident while being fished out, not even so much as a tummy ache (and he's not been near the canal since!)
Your children will be fine 😊

monpetitlapin · 02/08/2023 23:01

Nah in North America where they have brain eating amoeba thingies in their water you have to worry about such things. In good old UK where we have fairly clean safe everything you're fine.

lochmaree · 02/08/2023 23:02

my youngest (1) licks the patio if its wet. or indeed any wet surface.

Oh my, I have just looked this up. Horrifying. Are you sure the beasts haven't found a way to the UK yet?

PurpleChrayne · 02/08/2023 23:09

Nope. They will catch dysentery.

😐

DrHat · 02/08/2023 23:31

have they tried mud yet?

Objectrelations · 02/08/2023 23:46

I worked in water quality management and regulation for over 15 years. Rainwater is about as pure* as it gets. I analysed some to find out.

  • with some exceptions for example in areas where there are high levels of air pollution
INeedAnotherName · 03/08/2023 00:02

I used to make and eat mud pies on a regular basis. Even the odd worm didn't put me off 😂

Rockbird · 03/08/2023 00:18

We used to drink it straight out of the barrel in olden days Ireland. It was lovely.
