In my kitchen. FML. Little bastard baby spiders. I'm sharing the horror as it's too much to deal with alone.

Aww! You are now an auntie to many. Congratulations! 🕷

In return for your love (and warmth from your home), they will help keep your home free from pests.

AnSolas · 02/08/2023 18:47

🌻 Congrats

GrazingSheep · 02/08/2023 18:47

Isn’t nature wonderful

SoupDragon · 02/08/2023 18:48

Someone told me that those spindly spiders eat other, bigger spiders so you've got yourself an army!

Skinnybluebody · 02/08/2023 19:01

We have two of these mama spiders with millions of babies in corners of our sons bedroom. They're cellar spiders, will catch and eat the giant house spiders etc so for me, they can stay!! Hate those big black fast galloping eight legged fuckers so the spindly guys can stay so I don't have to move out 🙂

Fightingtalk · 02/08/2023 19:16

Same in our boot room! Kind of cute, but way too any and a bit arachnophobia-esque…

A spider laid her egg sac in the corner of the en suite. She then built a dome of web over herself and the eggs. She stayed there and protected them.

A few days later the eggs hatched out and the mother spider protected them as they got used to life on the outside.

I then noticed that the mother spider looked a lot weaker and then she died. The spiderlings began to eat the body and grew a bit bigger.

I collected them in a tissue and a box and have put them somewhere safe in our covered gazebo as they adjust to being on their own.

Almost every mother spider does this for her eggs. Please don't kill spiders.

Skinny legs! I love these, they eat housespiders.

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 02/08/2023 19:36

Yes, please don't kill spiders. They do good work.

I shuddered reading that, despite wanting to laugh at galloping. I hate those big massive ones that may as well pay rent for the bloody size of them. And I'm pathetic, I'm too chicken to try and catch them to out outside (the big galloping ones, I'm fine with the spindly ones as long as we both respect each others personal spaces)

@GCAcademic time to move house 😅

Papernotplastic · 02/08/2023 19:39

That happened in my house once when I’d been lazy about killing all spiders on sight. I vacuumed them all up. Then I binned the vacuum cleaner bag. Then I put the Henry in the garage.

That's nothing I'd boast about.

Papernotplastic · 02/08/2023 19:42

If you don’t kill or remove the adults (which are likely to die outside anyway) you end up with a house infested with spiders.

Whu · 02/08/2023 19:43

I had the same happen in the corner of my living room.
Popped mum and babies in the garage! Hopefully enough shelter for them there. Couldn’t have 80 plus spiders in the living room.

That’s not true. I’ve never once killed or removed spiders from anywhere I’ve lived and I’ve never had an infestation either. I currently have one cellar spider in my bathroom and none others anywhere else that I’ve seen recently. They’re good to keep around for eating other things that are actual pests.

Papernotplastic · 02/08/2023 20:19

I ended up with at least one of the spiders the OP has posted a photo of in every room. Then they bred.

Chickenpie35 · 02/08/2023 20:19

Same. I want to sell my house

Simply not true.

Papernotplastic · 02/08/2023 20:22

The garage was absolutely full of spiders and I just left them to it. Then mice moved in and ate the spiders. Then the dog killed the mice …

WinterCarlisle · 02/08/2023 20:27

There was a thread years ago about someone who had a mum spindly spider in a corner with a load of babies. IIRC the poster asked what to do and someone replied on the lines of “Idk, get her a John Lewis voucher and a white noise machine?”

I laughed for about a week 😆

Yep, I'm making plans. How long do we reckon I've got until they leave the nest? I'm a fast packer.

I'm traumatised by the idea that spider sex has been happening in my kitchen.

I tried throwing the cat at one, she cried and ran away from it 😂 Then my 15 month old son started crawling around on the carpet chasing it like some demented version of hungry hungry hippos. It was one of those "Wtf do I do....?" Moments, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Ironically we played hungry hungry hippos the the other day there, turns out he's just as shit at the actual game as he qas at his reenactment while trying to munch a spider.
