How do I style this awful green colour DS has picked for his room?

He's 12 and I stupidly said he could choose his new bedroom colour.

This is what he's chosen.

Dulux Kiwi Crush.

He has a white wooden high sleeper bed and I was getting him malm drawers in grey but I dunno now.

What floor/bedding etc will make it not look like toxic vomit 😂😭😭

Are you sure? Try and talk him out of it.

Why? Why does what he wants, in his room, not matter. Why should OP choose the colour she wants for him to look at?

(OP this isn't aimed at you at all, I think your cheap paint - free choice, expensive furniture-carefully guided is a great compromise)

It wasn’t my comment but if this was my DD’s choice I would be worried she’d very quickly get sick of it - or possibly even regret it as soon as she saw a whole room of it. So would be trying to gently talk her into a slightly less vibrant version. It’s not that what she wants wouldn’t matter, but more that I’d be thinking of what she might want in 6 months’ time.

My daughter had a black bedroom when she was 12. It looked lovely with a pine high sleeper, cream carpet, desk, curtains, and canvass wardrobe and chest. She never got tired of it and once she had left home, I converted it into a home office. I replaced the cream furniture with a black bed, wardrobe, and desk and added a few red accessories. I kept the black walls but painted the ceiling white to give me a bit more brightness for working. I always desperately wanted black walls when I was in my teens and so was very sympathetic when my daughter wanted the same. I can still remember my mum picking me up from school when I was about 12 and telling me she had redecorated my bedroom whilst I'd been at school. I will never forget the horror of walking into my room and finding she had painted the walls a sort of mustard colour and had painted huge red, yellow, and orange flowers everywhere, including on my chair and headboard 😆😆

Because it’s not his house that’s he’s paying for!

What is this new trend of letting children make household decisions like this??

I don't think letting children chose their bedroom is a new trend?

Don't most children get to chose their bedroom colour and decorations? It's their bedroom!

I chose my bedroom wallpaper in the late 60s, DS chose his about 20 years ago, it's not a new thing

I chose this very same colour for mine in the 1970s, its definitely not a new trend. It was easy enough to paint over a few years later.
