He's 12 and I stupidly said he could choose his new bedroom colour.

This is what he's chosen.

Dulux Kiwi Crush.

He has a white wooden high sleeper bed and I was getting him malm drawers in grey but I dunno now.

What floor/bedding etc will make it not look like toxic vomit 😂😭😭

I didn't run the household as a democracy

I shall steal this.

LilyLemonade · 02/08/2023 16:52

I like it and personally I’d put it with a light sunny yellow to give a feeling of sunshine through spring leaves.
Or a warm yellow cream.

Keroppi · 02/08/2023 16:52

Love it with white/neutrals.

I would just let him choose what he wants to go with it, he is going to be in it for at least the next 6 years. Mine chose dark navy blue and bright yellow paintwork, it was vey dark. I think you just shut the door

CurlewKate · 02/08/2023 16:53

It's his room. Let him choose!

Wow, I think I had a lime carpet too! I'd totally blocked that out 😂

Lol, my mum still brings up the "red paint" incident, where they'd kindly offered to redecorate my bedroom when I left school to reflect that I was now "grown up". As it was the 90's I chose a very post office red colour on the walls.

I bloody loved that room.

My Mum was not impressed, however, when I moved out less than a year later, leaving her with a bright red room she hated!

I am regularly reminded of this, over 25 years later!

BCBird · 02/08/2023 16:54

Why not agree on a budget and get him to choose the 'styling'?

GloriousGoosebumps · 02/08/2023 16:55

I'm pleased to see how many posters love the colour! It's the colour we chose when we had a new kitchen fitted. The kitchen units and roman blinds broke up the colour and brightened a room which can be dark when the sun is in the west. Let your son have his choice of colour. Perhaps the walls can be broken up with framed posters if you really do find the colour too much. I see that some posters are suggesting you only use the colour on one wall, wouldn't it be better to use it on two walls if you're not going to use it on all four walls?

User165753 · 02/08/2023 16:55

He will probably want to choose the bedding as well so I would give up on styling

Canidoitreally · 02/08/2023 16:56

Navy and white, or darker green and cream for me. Possibly with a few pops of orange.

I think grey goes with the green but not with the pine furniture.

lastminutewednesday · 02/08/2023 16:59

Navy blue and white for accessories I would think. And if you can persuade him to have it on just one wall even better :)

Iknowthis1 · 02/08/2023 17:08

That's not a very calming colour for sleeping in. I wonder if you toned it down a bit and went for a less 'in your face green' would be even notice.

AShepherdsBooper · 02/08/2023 17:25

I let my 11 yr Ds choose his bedroom colour… he chose an eye-bleeding lime green too!! I got him to agree to some navy blinds, bedding etc so it wasn’t so 😮😮 I grew to like it any it certainly gave the room a glow that could be seen from outer space

Yes I would be tempted to swap it for a very similar but slightly less neon green.

minipie · 02/08/2023 17:28

For example the first pic in Keroppi’s post has a similar but much more liveable colour.

Growlybear83 · 02/08/2023 17:29

But then it wouldn't be the OP's son's choice of colour.

Rathouse · 02/08/2023 17:32

ladyvivienne · 02/08/2023 15:32

Like this.

Looks quite nice put together. It's giving 90s green. Agree it's his room and he might as well go the whole hog seen as the walls are not green.

Whataretalkingabout · 02/08/2023 17:39

Use lots of blues - teal , turquoises to tone down the warmth of that beautiful but bright green. Navy is a bit of a high contrast, imo. I'd add alot of white too. He will tire of it alot less quickly if you can go a tone or two more neutral. Natural warm woods or bleached /grayed woods would add a natural touch. Rattan maybe or wicker also.

Have fun. Your son will surely love it.

LER83 · 02/08/2023 17:42

If he goes for the stripes, navy, grey and white would go well with it and probably last a few years as it's not really age specific. Reminds me of when I was the same age and had a bright orange bedroom complete with bright yellow ceiling and carpet!! Certainly stood out in my mums grey/monochrome house! (This would of been mid 90's, my mum was ahead of the times!)

hopeforlucky3 · 02/08/2023 17:44

My son had this, we had blue bedding and curtains etc.

TheDuchessOfMN · 02/08/2023 17:45

I know someone whose kitchen is that colour.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 02/08/2023 17:47

White furniture.
Pale grey curtains.
Grey and navy linens.

MrsCarson · 02/08/2023 18:03

That's what my son chose when he was 12. Dh called it Shrek green. We hated it, but left him with it until he left high school and painted it over, it took a lot of coats to cover it.

MrsMoastyToasty · 02/08/2023 18:11

You could go for a tropical feel with orange

My nephew’s room is this exact color. Sister decorated with white furniture, with green and navy decor
