There is a man dressed up as Ronald McDonald walking round my city.

I'm used to most odd things as it's a student city. Can't work out if this is a bit of fun or really creepy. He's pulling out a toy plastic trumpet and standing next to buskers miming them. HmmHmmHmmHmm

It is some sort of “street art”?

Beetie1 · 01/08/2023 15:37

Is this in Nottingham? I gave him a wide berth earlier.

GreyCarpet · 01/08/2023 15:37

Reminds me of a man about 30 years ago who used to walk around Manchester city centre dressed as Mr Motivator. Or James Bond. Depending on how the mood took him that day.

(He had a psychiatric condition.)

Wouldn't it be boring if we were all the same?

Yes.

He was telling me in Caffè Nero that he'd been sacked from McDonald's!

Needmorelego · 01/08/2023 15:57

McDonald's themselves apparently don’t use the character for advertising much these days because children were scared of him and/or found him creepy.
🤡

Toddlerteaplease · 01/08/2023 15:58

This is very bizarre!

Did you ask him why he'd been sacked?

He quite clearly has something going on. If people who don't comply with societal norms upset you, then avoid them but it doesn't sound like he was causing anyone any harm.

Toddlerteaplease · 01/08/2023 16:04

No, he wasn't causing harm. Just thought it was ray odd behaviour.

Considering I drove past a guy rocking a full suit of chainmail in Beeston a few months ago - very little surprises me around these parts anymore.

GreyCarpet · 01/08/2023 16:12

It is odd behaviour but that's why I say he obviously has other stuff going on.

Manchester's Mr Motivator of 30 years ago would come into my work place and try and get me to exercise with him. I think he really believed he was Mr M (or James Bond). He was absolutely harmless and a very friendly man (IME) but his grip on reality was somewhat tenuous at times. Always made me smile.

The worst parties I went to in the 80s were McDonald's parties 🤡

INeedAnotherName · 01/08/2023 16:24

Dressing up as a clown is always odd behaviour. Was he following you?

There was also a bloke who used to dress up as the Joker. He was a drug addict and ended up dropping a bowling ball on someone's head from a window.

Beezknees · 01/08/2023 16:33

And there's a guy who frequents Nottingham who spray paints himself silver but I haven't seen him in a while, he lives in Loughborough I believe. Some odd characters.

Mtcir · 01/08/2023 16:33

How do you know he's 'dressed as' Ronald Mcdonald and not the real Ronald Mcdonald 🤔 He's saying he's been sacked from McDonald's and as a previous poster said they're not using him to advertise anymore 👀

SandTigerSharkFart · 01/08/2023 16:50

@Mtcir

Ummm, probably because he 'retired' suddenly in 2016? This happened also in the uk.

It was a joke…

SandTigerSharkFart · 01/08/2023 16:53

😖 ooops, sorry!

Toddlerteaplease · 01/08/2023 17:05

I suspect he was joking about being sacked from McDonald's. Nothing much phases me in Nottingham though. Think I I've seen the silver man.

I saw a man crossing the road yesterday with a mop on his head. Also Nottingham. Must be something in the water Grin

🤣🤣

LaMaG · 01/08/2023 18:19

Bet you'll find he worked in McDonalds for a week in 1989 and has spent the last few decades believing himself to be the wrongfully dismissed Ronald.

We had a cowgirl who enjoyed directing traffic once.

Love the idea of Mr Motivator in Manchester 😂

LlynTegid · 01/08/2023 18:30

Miming musicians? He could get a job with those groups who mime on stage.

Agree with the OP that it is strange, not sure what you could do about it.
