Dog accessories - they have a coat for the depths of winter but that's it.
Bath bombs - completely pointless.
Many kitchen gadgets.
Clothes/shoes that aren't a perfect fit.

Single use menstrual products… I’m allergic to a lot of them and they were also a sensory nightmare

Same.

I found out the other day that my local library is the second busiest library in the UK (first is in Manchester) which is excellent. I feel bad for people without decent local libraries.

Our library has very little. However we can order anything we want and it usually arrives in a few days. What we don’t have is the option to browse.

We have to do that in book shops. So we buy occasionally from Waterstones, as if they went under we d have a long drive to an alternative.
You’re very lucky to have a good library

Missingpop · 02/08/2023 19:59

Yep every time I buy a bar of dairy milk I think really was this a necessity ? Do I really need it? Will I die without it?
I think about it for all of two seconds & the answer is yes fuck it you deserve it now get your arse home shove it in the fridge & wait until the old man’s gone out & eat it all to yourself you gutty cow 😂😂😂

of course people buy stuff they don’t need that why Facebook marketplace does so well I’ve picked up some really good bargains on there 😂😂😂

Takeaway food, hairdressers, manicures, kits of any description.

I'm no expert @ScottBakula but I think it's to do with this bit "The problem with cooked fat from roasting for example, is that the meat juices have blended with the fat and when set, this consistency makes it prone to smearing"

New lard must be different to that cooked. The RSPB even give advice about making fat balls with new lard that hasn't been used in cooking.......I don't know. Perhaps someone clever will be able to explain.

I was also told that we use salt I. Our cooking which is also unhealthy for them.

JusthereforXmas · 02/08/2023 20:11

I also don't get bathbombs, only ever bought one because people swore it would help with my braxton hicks in pregnancy... I sat in a funny smelling, funny coloured bath, with detritus whizzing around me and dont fully understand why. It was one of those expensive 'lush' ones too, so bizarre and did not change anything about my contractions.

We have a few of those Little Free Libraries near us. I haven't paid for a book for years. Yesterday I walked past and someone had put about 50 in. I came home with seven books.

Takeaways
Fabric conditioner
Kitchen roll
Wipes

Sillyname63 · 02/08/2023 20:27

Wax melts and candles , I have been given some as gifts but never light them . I honestly can't see the point.

threatmatrix · 02/08/2023 20:29

I love my deep fat fryer, but I use lard. It’s healthier than veg/sunflower oil as well.

Sennelier1 · 02/08/2023 20:29

@Tahlbias really? Kitchenroll for everything? I always use rags. For some chores like wiping the kitchen counters I use washable rags, for other chores like painting etc. it's rags from old clothes etc.that get thrown out after use. Saves a lot of trees!

In our house it would just go in with whatever wash was going in next!

thank You thank you. Of course they just all go in. It all gets washed. I don’t understand why not, I mean you put your pants in a normal wash.

TweetyMcTweetFace · 02/08/2023 20:50

I use kitchen roll like nobody's business. And anti bac wipes. And fabric softener. I love them all!

I've given up magazines, I used to buy one daily when I worked, to read at lunchtime.
Seems crazy now.

I would pour any excess cooking fat into a glass container, let it cool down and harden overnight in the fridge, then I would bin the fat in the food waste container.

Most councils ask you not to put fat in the food waste as it doesn’t compost well, goes rancid and can spoil a whole batch of compost.

Hmm1234 · 02/08/2023 21:05

Fairy liquid and bleach!? What kind of furniture do you have 😑

Hedjwitch · 02/08/2023 21:08

Fabric conditioner
Cling film
Shower gel
Different cleaning sprays for different rooms
Kitchen roll
Washing up sponges

Cat baskets/beds - cats sleep anywhere.

I don't understand how you manage without kitchen roll? We ran out tonight and I've just cooked vegetarian burgers on a pan. There is some grease and I would use the kitchen roll to wipe that up rather than pour down the drain. What do you do?

Pour it in a small cup, let it cool , then pour it on the food waste bin.

Floogal · 02/08/2023 21:51

We just stick to Freesat, Freeview and YouTube. Can't be bothered with Netflix or sky. A lot of the program they rave about on the adverts don't even seem that good.

Also why do men waste money on boxer shorts? Briefs cost less and do the same job (& look nicer)

declutteringmymind · 02/08/2023 21:54

I don't pay for exercise apart from hot yoga. Basic equipment plus YouTube.

Lunch/snacks on the go - take from home

buying stuff that I have already but haven't used up. Eg pretty notebooks, skincare, makeup etc. I'm being very strict about this.

GirlOfTudor · 02/08/2023 22:02

I've also never bought kitchen roll. I clean with the dish sponge or cloths. The latter are chucked in the washing machine regularly.

I haven't bought fabric conditioner for years. I stopped using it when pregnant with my son incase he had sensitive skin. Turns out he did! I still have an almost empty bottle in the cupboard but I probably won't repurchase it again.

Conditioner. Haven't used it for years. My hair is perfectly healthy and shiny with shampoo only.

Dummies and formula. Any proper clothes until my son started walking. Sleepsuits day and night til then.

fjsoaar · 02/08/2023 22:13

Kid's smoothies, just make your own for a fraction of the price using over ripe fruit.

Berries - buy frozen

Make up - I avoid make up counters. Overpriced garbage!

Snacks / coffees out. Just bring your own or wait until you get home.

Scented candles - synthetic smell is horrid

Themed decorations, every season seems to have a wreath to match now?

Electrical - no iPads/ new phones/ latest gadgets etc

Fast fashion - support businesses who look after their staff, think about the ethics of what your buying.

Cinema food - buy a bag of £1 popcorn from the shop.
