Thread 9 - TalkLair: “Russell's teapot goes on being round”

Continuation of previous threads (thread 8).

The new lair of JTT escapees is all cosy and homey; we have truly settled here. Outside, the garden is blooming with summer flowers - should bloody well be, what with all that rain. Inside, the hearth is glowing, pictures are up on the walls, rugs are down on the floors (and assorted pets curled up on them).

We just won’t mention the gnawed bones of our prey over there in the corner of the cave…

I'm so sorry, @SinnerBoy it's really unsettling and upsetting when you find out something like that.

MouseMinge · 08/08/2023 21:12

I've now done Barbenheimer. Not on the same day, obvs, as that would be madness but I saw Barbie this evening. It's a lot of fun and even more fun was spotting all the British people in the film. Ryan Gosling as full-on himbo was superb.

artant · 09/08/2023 21:16

I want to see both Barbie and Oppenheimer. I should really do something about making that happen.

MouseMinge · 09/08/2023 22:39

I realised that I do have an IMAX near me, Brighton, so it's possible I might go to see Oppenheimer again there. Or not. It's really stayed with me though.

Time for another cat.

Here is Bubo (pic sent by his human) in the pose known as The Long Struggle.

It's a hard life, being a cat.

Tricyrtis2022 · 10/08/2023 18:10

Clearly!

He was in a funny mood yesterday. He's usually very friendly, but yesterday he walked by me so I said 'Hello Bubo' and he just gave me a dirty look and carried on walking. Snubbed by a cat, eh.

CyanCrystalViolet · 10/08/2023 18:52

I love how the shadow has merged with his body.

Here’s Kasper having a little doze. And another one, about to answer his PawPhone.

"Excuse me! This call is private!"

That’s exactly it isn’t it! My poor tormented boy.

MouseMinge · 10/08/2023 22:56

Cats. Can't live with them, can't not live with them because if you are dead with them they will eat you and when you are living with them they will often treat you like shit on their shiny little beans because F you, I'm the daddy round here.

MouseMinge · 10/08/2023 22:58

I've just started watching Painkiller on Netflix (about the Oxycontin scandal) and it's really good so far.

Britinme · 11/08/2023 00:03

Mine too

SinnerBoy · 11/08/2023 00:28

That's a fascinating piece about Inanna and Gilgamesh, but I have a slight issue; if they were first written of together, how can she be an older literary figure?

To be sure, she seems to be a far older character, but oral tradition and literature, although related, are not the same.

MouseMinge · 11/08/2023 00:00

Just about all of these make my bum squeak with the fear.

Skywalks

Ooh! I quite like skywalks, although some of those do look a bit extreme.

MavisMcMinty · 11/08/2023 15:15

Well! Finally macman has heeded my pleas to take the cats with him on his dog walk, although just watching him stride down the garden into the woods I really don’t think he understands how slow and encouraging you have to be. It’s such fun though!

Was thinking about a trip to the cinema this weekend. Read the good things, here and elsewhere, about Oppenheimer, but... three bloody hours?!

Anyone seen this?

https://homemcr.org/film/paris-memories/

Then again, there's Three Days of the Condor (Robert Retford) which I don't think I've ever seen...

Paris Memories - HOME

Paris Memories follows Mia as she struggles to make sense of her experience in the aftermath of a violent attack. Her isolation and confusion lead her to meet with others who were there

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 11/08/2023 16:30

Oh - I didn't know that was a thing! I thought it was a personal oddity shared only with MaBint. Not holiday specific - so the theories on that thread about planes and temperature changes are irrelevant - I just don't do unfamiliar loos.

Gonners · 11/08/2023 16:30

@duc748 Oppenheimer, but... three bloody hours?!

That's my problem with it. It's on every night here at the local (v. cheap - £3.50 or £4.50 for The Comfy Chairs) but it starts at 7:45, which doesn't work for us.

duc748 · 11/08/2023 17:11

I don't know how cinemas can stay in business with those prices. I don't think cinema-going has ever recovered from the pandemic. The one cinema in my town just closed (not that I went there much), so it's Bolton or Manchester now. My son tells me even in London, cinema prices are quite a bit cheaper these days.

Gonners · 11/08/2023 17:52

It's a small cinema, part of the Picturedrome group which is based in Bognor. They all seem to charge the same price. I don't know how they do it, except perhaps through popcorn and cheap rent? They also have a lot of children's films on - of the 7 currently showing, everything apart from Oppenheimer is PG or 12A - so it fills up with hordes of the little blighters.

They also show a lot of those live ballet/opera/concert broadcasts, which are more than double the price but sell well.
