Thread 9 - TalkLair: “Russell's teapot goes on being round”

Continuation of previous threads (thread 8).

The new lair of JTT escapees is all cosy and homey; we have truly settled here. Outside, the garden is blooming with summer flowers - should bloody well be, what with all that rain. Inside, the hearth is glowing, pictures are up on the walls, rugs are down on the floors (and assorted pets curled up on them).

We just won’t mention the gnawed bones of our prey over there in the corner of the cave…

Garfield looks very cosy there, not surprised he was a regular visitor.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 05/08/2023 13:43

ImposterCat was almost equally determined about living here, for a while. It took several months of complete refusal before he gave up, and he now only glares at us from a distance.

Tricyrtis2022 · 05/08/2023 14:24

Did you all get that torrential rain earlier today? The sky turned very dark here and the rain just bucketed down. Glad to be watching it from indoors, that's for sure.

DeanElderberry · 05/08/2023 14:27

We had it overnight - lots of wind too, and some thunder. I've lit the wood stove. It's a bank holiday weekend.

Joy.

It’s been 6 or 7 weeks since we last had reliable sunbathing weather, and my lovely slimming healthy-looking tan has pretty much all gone. Normal for July, normal for Devon, but that doesn’t make it OK. Some of my dresses can only be worn with a tan!

MavisMcMinty · 05/08/2023 14:59

Ha ha, excellent!

Tricyrtis2022 · 05/08/2023 15:01

I can't stop laughing...

SinnerBoy · 05/08/2023 21:20

Garfield looks the model of my sister's late cat, who died last year, aged 20. Handsome lad.

MouseMinge · 05/08/2023 21:25

I have a better photo of him somewhere which is an indication that I was far too attached to a cat who wasn't my cat when I already had a cat of my own. They liked each other though and often slept curled up together.

@Tricyrtis2022 the cushion was from H&M, very cheap and cheerful and I'm very fond of it. I do like a bit of velvet. The cat comforter was knitted by me. It was going to be bigger and right for a baby but it was too scratchy so I use it for my cats instead. And the ginger stepson.

Loving the Icelandic email horses!

Big rain here today. I’d like a bit of sitting out weather please.

MouseMinge · 06/08/2023 11:25

I can see many patches of blue sky today. Is it a mirage? Yesterday was hideous and I would like summer to stop having a strop and come back to us!

Britinme · 06/08/2023 12:31

We sat outside with neighbours yesterday evening and ate in the garden - lovely evening despite having a shower in the afternoon.

artant · 06/08/2023 12:37

Sunny here at the moment. The sky is mostly a pale grey tone though.

MavisMcMinty · 06/08/2023 21:03

9pm and almost dark. Gah!

9pm and almost dark. Gah!

Sunrise at 5:30 and sunset at 20:30 here. As I have no reason to be up early, I'm an enthusiast for permanent summer time!

MavisMcMinty · 06/08/2023 21:45

Feel like summer finished 6 or 7 weeks ago, when it started raining and hasn’t really stopped until today. I have lost my tan, and I love to be tanned. Still, better weather this week I think.

Britinme · 06/08/2023 22:44

I could lie out in sunshine all summer and all that would happen is that I would go red and burn and then go white again. I avoid tanning!

MouseMinge · 06/08/2023 22:46

Yep, the weather forecast this evening gave me hope and apparently the week after will be even more of an improvement. It bloody better be.

I was out with friends today and when I left them to walk back home I bothered multiple dogs and had my nose licked a lot. By the dogs. I'm not some pervert who lets humans lick my nose in public.

SinnerBoy · 06/08/2023 23:11

MavisMcMinty · Today 21:45

Feel like summer finished 6 or 7 weeks ago, when it started raining and hasn’t really stopped until today.

The soggy Southwest! We've had an overcast week, with occasional showers, the a couple of days of heavy rain, but it's been lovely today.

17° !

Kucinghitam · 07/08/2023 05:13

Weather yesterday was not bad. It stayed dry and there were even periods of sun. And it looks like it'll be even better this week!

Unfortunately I have a full week in the lab, which is in a windowless basement.

I woke up to much better weather today and spent over three hours watching Oppenheimer in the cinema. My god that film is magnificent! Everyone who's said that it doesn't feel like three hours is right although it sort of feels longer and shorter all at the same time. Cillian Murphy is so beautiful. When his face is first on the screen, just his face taking up nearly the whole screen it's a punch in the gut moment of "Wow!" and I don't mean in an "I want to ride him" way. Just utterly beautiful and so, so, so bloody good at the acting thing. If he doesn't win an Oscar then the world has gone mad.

The only slightly disappointing thing was that I wished I could have seen it on an IMAX screen because I could see (and hear) that it would have been even more astonishing in that format. Then again there's no IMAX near me and it would have cost me a lot more than £4.50 to see it, so huzzah for cheap Monday tickets. Definitely the best film I've seen this year and without a doubt Nolan's best film ever. It feels like everything he's done before has been moving towards this film.

Britinme · 08/08/2023 02:55

I agree with everything you said there @MouseMinge . Fabulous movie and the three hours whizzed by. It was so much more satisfying for not ending with the bomb test or the dropping on Hiroshima. There was some wonderful acting in the smaller parts too. Gary Oldman as Truman was particularly good, I thought.

SinnerBoy · 08/08/2023 11:24

I've just joined a ship and seen a guy I haven't seen for about five years. He told me a mutual friend was killed by a car about 3 years ago, in Edinburgh.

She did the same job as me and we've been on projects together many times. I'm really surprised that I hadn't heard about it, she was really well liked and respected.

I can't even find a news story, just her LinkedIn and Facebook.

Britinme · 08/08/2023 12:18

That's awful @SinnerBoy . It's so easy to lose track of people. DH called a old friend in Phoenix in July because of the heat there - hadn't spoken to him in a couple of years and discovered he'd died the previous week.
