Massively first world, sulky puss, middle-class wanker problem but my personal trainer is moving on and I'm gutted

I know I'm going to sound like a complete knob-head but I suspect my PT is going to tell me that she's moving away when I meet her on Monday.

She's been thinking about it for a while but I've just ignored it. Now I think its going to happen.

I'm gutted. She's fantastic. I've tried other classes and other PTs but nothing/no-one compares.

She text me just now to say she's got "big news" which I think might be that she's found herself a place and maybe a gym-based job and is moving away from the area.

DP said "just get another PT". I've tried others and none compare to her - she's so brilliant.

Will you indulge me a little bit, please? Just let me wallow and sulk? I know I'm being a ridiculous, spoilt brat!

I'd be devastated if mine left me 😞

Yay glad she isn't moving!
My osteopath has recently left for at least a year and may never be back. I am so sad it's unreasonable. He was totally amazing.

I have a friend like this who totally gave up exercise (and put on loads of weight, no, I don’t care about this) when her trainer moved away. It’s like a totally baffling co-dependent relationship, probably encouraged by the trainer. I asked her why, she said she didn’t really like exercise and it was all about the social. Try to get to the root of what it is for you, there are definitely other good trainers around and you can’t be totally dependent on one person.

Ok, I'm not that bad with my PT 🤣

I love exercise and I do a couple more general circuits-type classes outside of our PT sessions. So there's no risk of me giving up if when she does leave.

The root of it is two fold. Firstly, that my PT is a trainer amateur boxer and a trained yoga teacher, and incorporates both things into our one-on-ones really nicely. It's very hard to find a PT with that skill set.

Secondly, she gets exactly what I want from the different aspects of what we do so knows how hard to push on each thing. I've been to other yoga classes and other boxing classes but they're pitched too low or too high for what I want to achieve. But my lovely PT gets it. Totally.

My PT married one of his clients and moved to America. I was ready to counter-propose but presumably my then-partner wouldn't have been too impressed.

I still miss my Zumba instructor. She was great. The class was such a good laugh

Well my gym has just announced it’s going to close down soon. My PT will be out of a job there after 10 years, poor guy. So I’ll be following him to whichever gym he moves to. I hope!

My thoughts about the gym chain are unprintable. I love it there - a fab facility and walking distance from home or work.

This happened to me about a year ago. I was a member of a really small gym set up at a local sports club. They did some really random classes which were fantastically fun, and got me into some really different sport/exercise.

My PT was an instructor there. That's how I met her.

But the gym made no money at all and shut down. I was absolutely gutted because, like you, I loved it there. The clients were all lovely, the instructors were fabulous, and the classes were brilliant. Fortunately, I managed to pin down my favourite instructor for one-on-one PT which we still do now. But I'm still sad about losing the other classes.

I really hope you're able to follow him and keep working together

OP, you can wail to me! I remember your first thread because my beloved dance fitness instructor had just announced that she was leaving town and I was devastated. All of us in our group were. I felt like I was in mourning for months and I didn't think I'd ever find a fitness hobby I loved as much again.

Then at the start of this year, after trying lots of things, I found an amazing personal trainer who does small group classes, and I've been a devotee of hers since. She has totally transformed my relationship to fitness. And now she is going off to have a baby 😭 it's not quite as bad because I know she'll be back, but I'm still staring into the void again.

And last year my brow lady went on maternity leave (still not back) and my stylist moved away! Those aren't as bad, but in a one-week period I couldn't have coped with all that!
