Massively first world, sulky puss, middle-class wanker problem but my personal trainer is moving on and I'm gutted

LeftBereft · 28/07/2023 14:54

I know I'm going to sound like a complete knob-head but I suspect my PT is going to tell me that she's moving away when I meet her on Monday.

She's been thinking about it for a while but I've just ignored it. Now I think its going to happen.

I'm gutted. She's fantastic. I've tried other classes and other PTs but nothing/no-one compares.

She text me just now to say she's got "big news" which I think might be that she's found herself a place and maybe a gym-based job and is moving away from the area.

DP said "just get another PT". I've tried others and none compare to her - she's so brilliant.

Will you indulge me a little bit, please? Just let me wallow and sulk? I know I'm being a ridiculous, spoilt brat!

I completely get it OP. My current trainer (small group HIIT sessions) is amazing. I've had other good trainers but I really like him, I know what I'm getting & it suits me.

I dread the day that he moves or the business changes in some way.

However, I cried when my original trainer left but in fact the next two who took over the business were really good. Some things I liked more, some less. However, I adjusted & I try to remind myself that as much as the change may be unwelcome, it almost always brings unexpected benefits & the less positive elements can be accommodated.

I can't believe OP has to preface the query with such apologetic self loathing, what's the need for that?

I do know what you mean really but also… gynaecologist/mortgage broker is a really weird multi-hyphenate career 😂

More people should multi-task! I’d like a dentist-hairdresser.

DarkDarkNight · 28/07/2023 16:49

Ask her if she can recommend someone? She might have an idea of someone you would click with.

That's a great idea.

PurBal · 28/07/2023 17:03

@anothertrainwreck I thought the same before I posted it. But figured you’d know what I mean and enjoy a chuckle 🤭

Bluevelvetsofa · 28/07/2023 18:22

Twice, I’ve been left bereft by a hairdresser and it always takes aaages to find a new one.

countdowntonap · 28/07/2023 19:11

@anothertrainwreck @MissesMorkan that sounds like a great idea for a new thread! I’d love a cleaner/mixologist to come round on a Friday afternoon!

LeftBereft · 29/07/2023 08:18

LOL Y'all are making me laugh with your hyphenated career ideas

Weirdly, the handyman that I use is a brilliant joiner but he actually trained as a vet nurse. When he was here once hanging a door, he helped me trim my dog's nails.

I'm definitely going to ask her to recommend someone else from her circle. We do a mix of combat sports, weights, cardio and yoga. It's fabulous but I need someone well trained in yoga and fighting which, talking of hyphenated careers, isn't easy.

I'll spend the weekend gearing myself up for bad news and keep you updated on what the news is!

Because if you don't acknowledge that your problem is "first world", you get replies telling you not to be so spoilt because some people live on just 38p per day in a garden shed, eating only left daffodils and sitting into their own Primark handbag.

I feel this way about my nail tech, she was just absolutely perfect 😭😭😭

Definitely ask her for recommendations

PurBal · 28/07/2023 14:59

I know the feeling. My hairdresser moved to France and my hairs now awful, no one compared to him. I was also gutted when my gynaecologist and mortgage broker retired.

Gynaecologist by day, mortgage broker by night? Grin

First world entitlement. Get a life.

Nice. I bet you have got loads of friends.

I know, and those people need to be told to fuck off

ElephantLove · 29/07/2023 13:26

@LeftBereft only left daffodils??? The agony 😩. I only eat right daffodils myself 😜

BlackForestCake · 29/07/2023 14:49

We look EVERYWHERE to get you the best deal!

countdowntonap · 29/07/2023 15:41

@BlackForestCake 😂😂 that’s amazing

SideWonder · 29/07/2023 16:13

Totally know how you feel. If my PT moved on I’d be bereft. He’s part PT, part life-coach, part good friend.

😂 I meant left over. And shitting into Primark handbags.

Bloody MNing while walking the dog. Unlike mortgage broker gynaecologists I can not multi-task 😝

I'd be upset in your shoes. You want to maintain good health, good on you. Hope a recommendation leads to someone who can be as good in the future.

LeftBereft · 31/07/2023 13:13

If anyone remotely cares or is still remotely invested, I have an update on the "big news"

The "big news" is not moving-related.

She's been asked to appear in and lead some videos for a fitness company.

I am pleased for her and proud of her of course. But if you'd seen us this morning, you'd have thought she'd solved cold fusion the way I was gushing over it. I was just so relieved she's not moving away yet

Commiserations to everyone on this thread who's been left behind by PTs, hairdressers, nail technicians and gynecologists. Bloody selfish bastards going off and living their own lives 😝

I have a friend like this who totally gave up exercise (and put on loads of weight, no, I don’t care about this) when her trainer moved away. It’s like a totally baffling co-dependent relationship, probably encouraged by the trainer. I asked her why, she said she didn’t really like exercise and it was all about the social. Try to get to the root of what it is for you, there are definitely other good trainers around and you can’t be totally dependent on one person.

smooththecat · 31/07/2023 13:21

Ha ha ha, just saw the update.

Ohhelpicantthinkofaname · 31/07/2023 13:28

Glad she’s not leaving!

but in answer to the original question. Yes it’s a first world wanky problem, but that doesn’t mean you’re not allowed to be disappointed about the thought of someone you value moving away.

Arewehumanorarewecupboards · 31/07/2023 13:33

I’m glad she’s not going.

I’m still in mourning for my old dance teacher. She left me to move to stupid New York. I try not to talk about it because it still hurts.
