Very sad to hear Sinéad O'Connor has died. She had an incredible voice. And like her or not, she was very much a woman of her convictions. Her son died last year. I hope they are both at peace.

I couldn't open the link, it says bad gateway.

Yes, this is incredibly sad but not surprising, I also hope her and her son are at peace and thinking about her other children too.

vipersnest1 · 26/07/2023 19:05

I'm absolutely gutted.
I hope she is at peace now.

Just read this. Poor Sinaid. She has suffered terribly over the years
RIP XXX

Slothlikemum · 26/07/2023 19:07

I'm so, so sad about this. Such a phenomenal talent and such a bright and rebellious spirit. She was a massive inspiration for a whole generation of Irish women. Obviously deeply troubled though. Hope she's at peace now.

Shortpoet · 26/07/2023 19:15

Oh gosh. This is so sad. Her music meant so much to me when I was a teenager. It felt like she was expressing all that anger and frustration at double standards. And her amazing voice.

Dappy55 · 26/07/2023 19:19

I am do sad about this, she never had found peace. I kind of expected it would happen after her son went but so so sad. When my eldest was born we had a mix tape playing and Nothing Compares 2U was on it. RIP beautiful Sinead.

FlibbertyGibbitt · 26/07/2023 19:24

RIP Sinead 🙏 absolutely tragic ☹️

Choupette7 · 26/07/2023 19:44

So tragic. Really sad news.

faerieland · 26/07/2023 20:28

There are lots of people expressing condolences describing her as ‘troubled.’ She spoke out about child sexual abuse by the Catholic church and was treated poorly for doing so.

She was separated from her children which is a brutal thing to do to any woman. No mother can live without her children.

In my view, she was a woman made out to he ‘mad’ or ‘bad’ by many for being a strong and courageous vocally opinionated woman. Our world is perhaps more troubled than she ever was and she suffered for it.

Oliesjola · 26/07/2023 20:34

As a Mother my heart reached out to Sinead when her son died . She was a troubled soul and cannot imagine the heartache she then had to comprehend. Sleep well Sinead I hope you are with your beloved son.

Undoubtedly all true but she also suffered with very poor mental health which is I think what people mean when they are saying 'troubled '

It’s so so sad.
you can tell from her tweet a week or so ago that she was really struggling since the death of her son. I can’t imagine how much pain she must have felt. RIP Sinéad 💐

You’d suffer with poor mental health if someone snatched your kids from you. I don’t think she was troubled. I think she was traumatised and treated dreadfully.

I agree her issues are deeply routed in trauma but it predates having children. Her own childhood caused a lot of damage. I believe she also had MH diagnoses too.

I'm normally quite unaffected by celebrity deaths but I'm just gutted.

Such an amazingly talented, strong woman who lived through great tragedy. She was so brave to use her platform to speak truth to power - the world would be a better place if we could all be a bit more Sinead ❤️

I'm listening to Troy on repeat.

Dappy55 · 26/07/2023 22:05

I was just thinking that if she was young now it would be different. People weren't ready to confront the abuse and the power of the church, she was part of that change though and it cost her a lot.

💚👍

NashvilleQueen · 27/07/2023 07:57

She was definitely ahead of her time and one of the original 'speaking truth to power' examples.

Now she would be celebrated but then she was marginalised by the conservative right and the press as unhinged and offensive.

She was fearsome and brilliant.

Dulra · 27/07/2023 09:02

This one really got me yesterday. As others have said I think you always sort of expected things to end this way. The loss of her son was a huge tragedy and would be a struggle for any of us to recover from.

She was such a brave, talented, intelligent, fun, loving, strong woman and an inspiration for many young women growing up at that time. And that voice! Stunning. She was completely vilified for tearing up the picture of the pope at the time but she never regretted it and proved right in time. Fame did not sit easy with her and she always said she never wanted to be a pop star but a protest singer but her immense talent meant fame followed. She suffered horrific abuse as a child by her mother and did end up in care. Her childhood traumas haunted her through life and she spent a lot of time in and out of Psychiatric hospitals. She spoke so openly about her struggles, abuse and mental health at a time when no one else did which shows such bravery. She was adored in Ireland and people had such a genuine love for her and wanted her to be happy. She lived in Bray Co. Wicklow for a long time and I used to often see her out and about with her dogs.
I just hope she is at peace now with her beloved son Shane and condolences to her family and friends and all that knew and loved her. We won't see her like again.

Reviving this thread given the news that her death was from natural causes. Does not bring her back but I hope in a very small way gives some peace to her family and other loved ones to know this.

Aquamarine1029 · 09/01/2024 15:30

She died from a broken heart.
