Is the Royal Mail where you live, only delivering once a week not daily?

Surely this can't only be happening - in my central London postcode. I am expecting an important doctors appointment in the Mail and I'm annoyed how infrequent they are delivering. Is it just my local or is it widespread?

Daily here in a village in Worcestershire.

Just posted a parcel to my DD in Scotland. Was told to expect three days. I sent it first class.

gingerguineapig · 26/11/2023 17:43

Having said ours has improved, we didn't get a single letter last week! I find it hugely improbable that we didn't even have junk mail for six days (might have even been longer as we were away last weekend, so I don't know if we had deliveries on Saturday last weekend).

We did get two parcels delivered (one was special delivery).

I also wish that if they won't deliver they'd at least extend the opening hours of the sorting office so you can go and see if they have anything for you. Since covid they are only open two hours a day where I live (might be 4 on a Saturday).

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 26/11/2023 17:45

South Gloucestershire here, ours is completely random. A few months ago we didn’t get any for three weeks and were told to go to the sorting office and collect it!
At the moment it’s every 7-8 days.

TotteringByRosie · 26/11/2023 17:49

South London and we've only been getting post once a week for over a year now. The postman has been told to focus on delivering parcels so the mail delivery has suffered.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 26/11/2023 17:54

Once a week. Suburb of big city.

Wonder why we bother paying for 1st ( or 2nd) class post.

lissie123 · 26/11/2023 17:54

we’re in Wiltshire. No post for the last week and we are expecting important letters. Our postie says many staff have left and there’s virtually no one left to provide a proper service.

Oblomov23 · 26/11/2023 18:01

Surrey. Daily.

Cubic · 26/11/2023 18:03

Near Manchester, once a week if lucky for letters. Parcels seem to be better.

LastTrainEast · 26/11/2023 18:23

This has been going on for a year or two at least. (Thurrock)

Ours is typically once a week.

People I know in other areas have had the same thing.

I had a thing before I gave up on it where I'd book a collection for a small item and the automated system would book it for the next day, but of course there was no postman to do it so it just went round in a loop of failed collections and rescheduling.

Out of interest do we know why so many staff have left? Have the working conditions become untenable or is it simply that they can earn a lot more elsewhere?

lissie123 · 26/11/2023 18:59

@gingerguineapig from what he was saying it’s seems to be down to staff sickness, people leaving because things are untenable and they can’t recruit

LuluBlakey1 · 26/11/2023 19:00

We get daily deliveries. 2 posties and a van. They half the street and get it done really quickly, parcels and letters. Tyneside.

IBE45 · 26/11/2023 23:58

Yep, fewer and fewer deliveries where I am. The postie has even said that they no longer cover his days off and shorter periods of annual leave. It's pretty shocking considering they are obliged to deliver 6 days a week! Not sure who to complain to though...

I don't get mail that often anyway as I'm signed up for the anti junk thing but I had post on Saturday and today (Monday), and I think last Wednesday.

What’s the anti-junk thing please?

O0oO0o · 27/11/2023 00:34

Weekly deliveries here. Even for parcels.

Local Facebook page is about 50% posts moaning about the post, among the usual lost cats etc

AlltheFs · 27/11/2023 00:44

Daily deliveries to our village-we get very little post at our house though (Amazon, DPD and Evri is another matter).

Our postie recently got moved to a new round and the community is gutted (he got a good send off) but the new chap seems very nice. I see the van so know he’s here even if not at ours.

Rural East Mids here- small village where everyone knows everyone by name. It’s a bit like a cross between The Archers and Greendale 😂

Bazinga007 · 27/11/2023 00:54

Another one from Hertfordshore here and we seem to get a weekly delivery. We got nothing for days and days and then yesterday we got a mountain full through the letterbox.

Saltyswee · 27/11/2023 00:58

SE Scotland and I have also been suspecting this!
I think it’s twice weekly for us!

BananaSlug · 27/11/2023 01:05

I am still waiting on a letter posted on the 11th of November 🙄

lissie123 · 27/11/2023 07:29

Who do we complain to as the service is so poor? Ofcom?

Vates · 27/11/2023 07:32

My postie is lovely and does come everyday (except Sunday of course) but I am expecting letters and we never get any. All small parcels always arrive on time/as planned though (my passport arrived Saturday) so the post in my area must be working. I am in Gloucestershire.

Gorde · 06/06/2025 13:49

our post in hull is pathetic.council tax bill.1st class took 5weeks to travel 5 miles.
