Is the Royal Mail where you live, only delivering once a week not daily?

Surely this can't only be happening - in my central London postcode. I am expecting an important doctors appointment in the Mail and I'm annoyed how infrequent they are delivering. Is it just my local or is it widespread?

Ours is OK, but a neighbouring village are down to once a week, the delivery office will no longer hand over mail without a red card and in any case it's only open 8-10am so its not easy to get to.

Keeperofsecrets · 25/07/2023 11:34

Suburbs of Liverpool here. We haven’t had post delivered on Fridays for a decade. I once mentioned it to a neighbour and she told me I was being ridiculous, but a few weeks later (begrudgingly) acknowledged that I was correct. I’d be very surprised if we got anything on a Saturday, too.

DoraSpenlow · 25/07/2023 11:41

Somerset. Get a delivery every week to 10 days.

My meds get delivered by post. Between the GP now taking over a week to approve prescriptions and non delivery of mail I have had some anxious waits. Think I will have to go back to collecting prescription from surgery, taking it to The pharmacy and then going back to collect it. What a pain and bad for the environment.

Ours hasn’t been daily for a couple of months either.

LibertyLily · 25/07/2023 11:44

Still daily here (rural - not in a village - SW Wales).

HighEndGrifters · 25/07/2023 11:59

We live just outside Guildford, our postie relocated to Swanage because of the management in our local office.

They are nine rounds down, so they rotate them, in general we get post every second day.

Coronationstation · 25/07/2023 11:59

Major city and i've been away a lot recently so it's noticeable that I come home to no post. The days I'm home and it comes it's often a fair amount at once, mostly junk! I do see the postman on days when I'm WFH and I don't get mail so I think it's more than once a week but it definitely doesn't seem like such a regular service any more. When I post things to my parents they often don't get them for days - i think my mum has finally come to believe it's the Royal Mail and not that I keep forgetting birthdays / mother's day etc!

pepino · 25/07/2023 12:01

I sent something first class early last week and it's still not arrived. The week before it took 5 days to arrive too...

freetheunicorn1 · 25/07/2023 12:02

We don't get mail every day as we don't get that much mail but I see the posties going about every day. I am in a Scottish city.

MatildaTheCat · 25/07/2023 12:04

DS has been temping with an agency that does supply post work and they have recently all been laid off as there is no budget to pay them.

Badbadbunny · 25/07/2023 12:08

We get daily deliveries for parcels and "signed for"/"special delivery" items, but "normal" post only comes maybe 3/4 days per week, and never on a Thursday!

They seem to prioritise the stuff that is tracked, but "normal" untracked post, whether first or second class, just comes as and when they feel like it.

I once did a test and posted a first class letter to myself in our village post office on a Wednesday. It didn't get delivered until Saturday but had a post mark dated the Wednesday, so it got to the sorting office in good time, but then got held up being delivered. Kind of proved my point that they never deliver normal post on Thursdays, but I was surprised it didn't come on Friday either (got no post at all that day either).

I run a small business, so basically get post every day. So it's very noticeable the days nothing comes, as there's usually twice as much the next day.

Avariceagain · 25/07/2023 12:11

I can't tell if it's a lack of deliveries or stuff being held up at the sorting office or what, but we get a bunch of letters every 10 days or so. We're waiting on solicitor paperwork- a relative and I are sent the same letter at the same time- they always get theirs at least 3 days before me. Often more. We only live 5 miles away from each other but they are in a city, I'm rural. 🤷‍♀️

Rosecoffeecup · 25/07/2023 12:13

SE London, lucky to have a delivery once a week recently. Currently waiting for a special delivery next day "guaranteed by 1pm" parcel which was sent 4 days ago and I will be amazed if it turns up today

NancyPickford · 25/07/2023 12:32

I'm in a rural Scottish location and I get a daily delivery. Postie arrives in his wee red van around 11am.

MissNursey · 20/09/2023 16:21

I suffer from recurring Cystitis, I order from sweet cures a product called Waterfall D’ Mannose, well I ran out last week but ordered some a week ago, despite being tracked it is unbelievably not here yet, our post is coming in a big bunch on a Thursday. Very upset. I will never allow myself to be in this position again.

Badbadbunny · 20/09/2023 18:48

We've not had deliveries on Thursdays for the 25 years I've lived in this village (a large village, 7,000 inhabitants!). Since covid, we don't get deliveries on Mondays either. The only things delivered on Mondays and Thursdays are next day special deliveries, no "ordinary" nor parcels, signed for, etc.

NotReallySureWhatToThink · 20/09/2023 18:50

Every other day, round here.

Been like that since covid.

looknofurtherthan · 21/11/2023 06:21

No mail here in South Norwich for at least 2 weeks. I heard they are ignoring letters and prioritising parcels...hospital appointments missed, bills unpaid. This is a scandal and needs to be taken up the government and mainstream media.

Yes ours is like this. I think it has improved - maybe they've got some new staff for Christmas, but it's still the case that we seem to get nothing for days and then a pile of mail.

You can't always tell as we don't get the volume of mail we used to, but it does seem funny when you have 3 days with nothing (and don't even see the postie in the road) and then there are 5 or 6 things on one day.

But sometimes we do get a letter on its own, so it has got a bit better, they are obviously delivering more often now.

I think Ofcom knows about it (they have fined them recently for poor performance) but fining isn't really helpful as it just means they have even less money to spend on having enough staff. Not sure what the answer is.

Wacadu · 21/11/2023 08:12

Rural village in Scotland. Daily deliveries, including Sundays from mid- November to Christmas.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 21/11/2023 08:16

I am getting post once or twice a week, in batches. More worryingly, much of my post has been opened (anything with a weak self-stick seal). Last week I took in two parcels for a neighbour, and both had been tampered with - a soft parcel had a long cut in the side, and a stiff envelope parcel (which looked like it had a game in it) had been twisted to make a tear in the side, but whoever opened it obviously didn't need a memory card.

poorlypoppet · 21/11/2023 08:24

Daily here - Mon to Sat for Royal Mail. Had no idea it was less in some areas.

We're Cambridgeshire.

Sherma · 21/11/2023 08:27

I'm in a London Borough. Once a week, twice a week if we're lucky. It's terrible.

dinertales · 21/11/2023 08:32

London Zone 2, we get deliveries a few times a week. Hard to say as we don't get enough that we'd get daily post anyway. Plus so much is delivered by Amazon and Evri so it feels more often.
