Is the Royal Mail where you live, only delivering once a week not daily?

Surely this can't only be happening - in my central London postcode. I am expecting an important doctors appointment in the Mail and I'm annoyed how infrequent they are delivering. Is it just my local or is it widespread?

I mean I see the red vans all the time, few times a day yet I don't see the posties doing the rounds, they only seem to deliver once every fortnight, parcel delivery 📦 is taking more priority I don't know why maybe they make more money from that than delivering just letters daily. Anyways it's super annoying. If I order something online and the courier is Royal Mail I don't bother anymore!

Yes I think they save ours up. I've had a delivery today and yesterday but had a parcel both days and the usual pile of leaflets which means they have to come at least once a week,

We usually get letters 3-4 days a week.

Not sure why it's so awful, they can't all still have covid!

gingerguineapig · 25/07/2023 10:35

Parcels are fine, they come when they are supposed to, so you can order online. It's letters that you sometimes have to wait ages for.

Also near Reading but only getting weekly deliveries for months now!

Another one near Reading and only getting occasional deliveries. We don’t get a lot of snail mail these days, most of ours is digital, so it’s more than a coincidence that when we do get post, we get three or four letters at once

BestIsWest · 25/07/2023 10:42

My best friend got no cards on her 50th birthday despite us all posting them well in advance from all over the country. They turned up in a bundle four days later.

cinnamonfrenchtoast · 25/07/2023 10:43

Daily deliveries here in rural Cumbria.

Itsvalentino · 25/07/2023 10:43

West Midlands, and both at work and home we only have 1 delivery per week. It's been this way since the strikes.

Miscellaneousme · 25/07/2023 10:44

We are in SE and get sporadic deliveries of post 1-2 times per week. Sometimes a whole week with nothing and then several things.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 25/07/2023 10:46

Same here. Big northern city in heavily populated area.

Post once a week.

Lindy2 · 25/07/2023 10:52

I'm in Surrey and it can be more than week between deliveries sometimes. Sometimes though it's daily or every other day - but thus is increasingly rare and weekly is becoming the norm.

I've had nothing for about 5 days and have now just had 6 items of post delivered. Some were posted last Thursday.

An important appointment was missed a couple of weeks ago as the letter telling me about it arrived 1 hour before the appointment start time. It was the first I knew about it and I already had another appointment that afternoon.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 25/07/2023 10:55

I get post daily, I also run an online shop and use royal mail, As I can track the orders and get confirmation of deliveries I can see that they are arriving as expected and I post all over the UK. I can not see any delays of my post which i send out.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 25/07/2023 10:57

Just to add I only use RM for letters and large letters, my parcels go with a different courier.

YouveGotAFastCar · 25/07/2023 10:58

Yes. Warwickshire here. It's been this way since February. We weren't told they were dropping to this, but the sorting office did let me know when I went in to ask if they had an urgent letter for me.

midgetastic · 25/07/2023 10:58

Mail for urgent things seems daft unless it's sent recorded special - I mean missing something because it too from Thursday to Tuesday to get mail really is expecting too much anyway

That's why we have text and phone and email

I would guess that it's related to cost - with its universal service obligations it's cost base is very high

hippygirllucky · 25/07/2023 11:00

Yup, Oxford here and we get a weeks orthodontist of post in one go, a lot of it dated for ages ago. It's very frustrating.

Wishitsnows · 25/07/2023 11:02

Berkshire and we get a weekly bundle

Bluevelvetsofa · 25/07/2023 11:06

Hit and miss on the south coast. Our postie is lovely, but it goes to pieces when he’s not working. I don’t know why important, time constrained mail is sent by post when it can’t be relied on to arrive in a timely fashion.

The Christmas (sorry) card list will be severely reduced this year. It costs more to send than to buy the cards.

Drews · 25/07/2023 11:07

Small rural town. We're still getting daily deliveries and extra parcel deliveries by Royal Mail on a Sunday too.

MrsTwiggy · 25/07/2023 11:10

Yes OP! I'm in a village in a rural county and we get all out post in one go once a week. I've actually spoken to the postman who has unofficially confirmed to me that they're prioritising parcels as they're what make them money, and letters are left to pile up. He said that if they can tell they're NHS letters or similar they try to do it more quickly.

I've waited over two weeks for second class post to arrive on two occasions in the last two months.

GloriousSludge · 25/07/2023 11:11

I just phone up the hospital now and ask them to tell me when the appointment is. It’s a pain, as I spend a while on hold and I know I’m wasting their time too, but the system of ‘you can’t book in person, we’ll send you a letter’ makes it the only option.

The letters generally arrive after the appointments. At best a day or two before when it’s really hard to rearrange work commitments.

Margrethe · 25/07/2023 11:11

We live in Northeast London. Mail seems to be coming twice a week. Our Economist always arrives a week late.

Flipflopflopflip · 25/07/2023 11:12

We get two deliveries a day, one for letters and one for parcels , in Norfolk.

BCCoach · 25/07/2023 11:15

Daily except when he’s on holiday, when we get nothing. SE, rural.

Mummysalwaysright · 25/07/2023 11:16

We only get a mail delivery once a week in a Kent backwater; and my DM is similar where she lives.

I think Royal Mail has a lot of staffing issues - loads of them are off sick all the time (when they're not on strike 🙄)

Toobusytoocare · 25/07/2023 11:19

Daily here in SW Kent but family in East Sussex weekly!
