All thing woo…

Was reading a thread on here earlier about some odd things (think objects that have moved when no-one’s been there to move them) happening in someone’s house, and it got me wondering — what’s the weirdest, most woo thing that’s ever happened to you? (Nothing untoward has ever really happened to me. Not sure if I’m relieved or disappointed, tbh. Possibly both.)

When I was little (,age 6). However I still can't be sure whether it was real or a dream or even a false memory and there's no one to even ask now... anyway.

Like a lot of kids I often used to sneak in to my parents room in the middle of the night this particular night was no exception. Anyway, the next morning my mum had got up and gone down so it was just me and my Dad and I turned around and I saw another one of my Dad, and I said "Daddy there's a man with the same face as you. My dad replied just ignore him he'll go away in a minute. That's all I remember although I do vaguely remember my mum saying " Do you remember when you saw the man who was the same as you dad". However unlike me my mum wasn't in the slightest bit woo so I can't have seen her ever bringing it up again not only that but I can't actually remember telling her in any case.
If this was someone else I'd be saying "not to put the shits up you but it had to be real you remember far too much for it to have been a dream from 40+ years ago. Well have vivid dreams but a lot of the time I can't even remember what I dreamed of the previous night. However I'll never know now. I could have asked when my mum and dad where alive but it only came into my memory a few years ago.

Gosh. The weirdest thing (I think) is how calm your dad was about it…

Imagine if your 6 year old said something like that. Wouldn't you say just what the dad said? Or something very similar?

CalistoNoSolo · 26/07/2023 20:31

I once lived in a flat over some stable, it was a lovely cotswold stone building in a lovely cotswold stone village. The flat came with a poltergeist. He didn't move stuff, but he loved to turn electricals on - the toaster, the stereo and the washing machine were favourites. He didn't turn the oven or microwave on so I think he just wanted a chat rather than to scare me. My mum thought he was a stable lad (she was very woo and had a story or two to tell herself) who had lived/worked on the yard my flat was above. I always felt very safe in the flat, and once I'd gone to bed he packed up for the night too.

We have a family spook.. Been seen by several people and weird goings on by many. Actually haven't heard much for a couple of years now. Last time I saw him in my bedroom he woke me up. Still makes me flinch and he has been around nearly 30 years now.
He moves things. Even a charm from dd's home and back to mine a few times... Salvaged an earring from the bin. That was odd.

MerlinsBeard87 · 26/07/2023 20:57

I used to work in a 17th century mansion house. I was often there on my own and would be called out at night etc if alarms went off which was very spooky. I had 2 experiences there.

Once, I was the only one in the building and I heard a huge metallic clanging sound. I'd left a ladder propped against the wall at the end of the corridor so I assumed it had fallen over. I went to look and it was still against the wall.

Another time I was the last one out and alarmed and locked the front doors. As I walked away I looked up into an upstairs window and I clearly saw a woman with white hair looking sideways into the room (not straight at me thank goodness!). I could clearly see into the room, the details of the wallpaper etc. I looked at her for a few seconds and then I walked away. After that I looked up everyday at different times of day and never saw her again. But weirdly it was never possible to see into the room like I did that evening- the glass just reflected so you couldn't see in.

I'm not woo at all, and never let myself believe in that type of thing because I didn't want to feel scared at work or let my brain suggest stuff in that old environment. But those were very real experiences I can't explain.

Mpb011 · 26/07/2023 21:04

I was walking out of a pub that was said to be haunted. As I left, the open door very slowly closed behind me without hitting me.

MysteriesOfTheOrganism · 26/07/2023 21:24

I stayed behind after school to play football, so the rest of the family were home by the time I got in. I went upstairs into my bedroom and tossed my bag across the room onto my bed, then went back downstairs to get a drink and a snack. As I was standing in the kitchen I heard a thud. Going out into the hall, there was my bag at the foot of the stairs. Puzzled, I walked into the sitting room and they were all there watching TV. Nobody had moved. We're not a family of pranksters. No other people in the house. No dogs. No cats. I have no explanation of how my bag dragged itself off my bed, crossed the room, turned a corner and threw itself downstairs.

whumpthereitis · 26/07/2023 21:29

I have a recent one. Was at my friend’s house and we both saw a book fly off the bookshelves. It didn’t fall, it went across the room like someone had thrown it. There was nothing we could see that would have caused it, either. Nothing had knocked the shelf, and the other books were undisturbed, which was surprising as you would have thought they’d have been moved by the force of this one flying out as it did.

She’s joked a few times about having a ghost.

hewasrightbesideme · 26/07/2023 21:51

Name changed for this because I've told
so many people IRL.
About a month ago I was alone in bed, Dh was sleeping in with ds. I had a really strange and vivid dream about my mother, she's having treatment for bile duct cancer, and things have been stressful and upsetting. Anyway while I was asleep and dreaming I could feel someone watching me, I opened my eyes and there was a figure beside my bed, leaning over looking at me, I shouted "Oh" really loudly and it was gone.
I fell straight back to sleep and continued to dream, fretfully about my mother.
The next morning Dh asked what I was dreaming about because he'd heard me shout... I hope who or whatever it was doesn't come back🙈

Hawkins0001 · 26/07/2023 21:53

Reading, to be honest im fairly boring, had the odd feelings sometimes in the odd woodlands that give off an eirey feeling but other than that nothing special.

Seasideanticscanleadtosandybuckets · 26/07/2023 21:56

Not too long ago my adult ds who lives on his own went to the shower.. Returning to his room a bin was in the doorway. He obviously hadn't put it there... He truly expected a db to be sniggering in a doorway.

Tarkan · 26/07/2023 21:59

I've had two experiences in bed when I was sure I was wide awake but I know you can never be 100% on that.

First time I was around 19, I'd had one friend die when I was 17 and another less than 2 years later and I was lying on my bed crying because it had been such a hard time. I felt someone grab my wrist and whisper "doofus" in my ear.

Many years later after I met and had moved in with DH, I was home alone, he'd gone to work and locked the door and I felt someone sit on the end of the bed. MIL had passed away in that room many years before but I didn't know that at the time.

DH has always been sceptical of anything woo but he had an experience when we were on honeymoon. We were in York and went into the Golden Fleece pub, the area at the front was empty so we assumed that we were to walk through to the back. As we were going through DH said to me "why don't we just ask the barmaid at the front?" and he refused to believe me when I said there wasn't anyone there. We went back to see, and we even walked back and forward to make sure it wasn't a random reflection on a photo or a shadow or anything. When we went through to the back and mentioned it to the woman working there she confirmed there weren't any other staff members at the front. DH was adamant there was a short young woman dressed in black between the tables as we walked through though.

NooNaNa · 26/07/2023 22:32

In our first house the children's electrical toys would go off in the night repeatedly, but as soon as we entered the room they would stop. We were not very settled there, but I often wonder if we were the problem.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 26/07/2023 23:25

My Dad wasn't calm in the way that he was relaxed about it. He was more as he was more sombre.
Brilliant thread btw op.

Jyas · 26/07/2023 23:36

I washed a glass and put it next to the sink to dry in its usual dry place. Then I left the room. I heard the noise of breaking glass, went back, and found it smashed in the middle of the kitchen floor. It wasn’t near the edge when I left the kitchen.

I was on the phone with a friend one evening, we talked about something and I said ‘knock on wood’ and knocked twice on the headboard of my bed. Heard two further knocks in reply. There are no neighbours.

Im quite freaked out by these because I don’t have any rational explanation.

EilonwyWithRedGoldHair · 27/07/2023 00:11

My sister and I as young children would see a woman with brown hair in a bun in the hallway of our home.

We had a Siamese cat who sadly died at a young age. I saw what could have been his ghost twice and myself and others heard him meow - as a Siamese he had a very distinctive sound. Then one night I had a dream of him and all the other pets we'd had who had died, all of them in our back garden, but outside the garden was nothing but golden light. Never saw or heard him again.

Dreams that have come true, including our rabbit dying.

Also, could come under this, had an "alien abduction" sleep paralysis experience, where I felt I was being levitated out of the bed towards a doorway filled with light, while trying to scream "no not again!".

Wobblysausage · 27/07/2023 00:32

Once my mum was upstairs pottering about. She felt something grab her fleece and then could hear something rattling behind her and it was following her everywhere she went. She came running down the stairs in a panic and burst into the living room… turns out it was a coat hanger that had got attached to the elastic of her fleece. Not really woo but it makes me laugh when I think about 🤣

But really though the night my grandma died I’d stayed at her house and I was woke up in the early hours to someone loudly whispering in my ear. I was so scared I went in to my mum to get in bed with her (bearing in mind I was about 19) and she was also wide awake because something had whispered in her ear and woke her up.

I have more but I’m getting scared remembering things and reading other posters stories so I’m coming off here and hiding under my covers 😅

JaneJeffer · 27/07/2023 01:01

@Wobblysausage that's hilarious 🤣

When I was little (,age 6). However I still can't be sure whether it was real or a dream or even a false memory and there's no one to even ask now... anyway.

However unlike me my mum wasn't in the slightest bit woo so I can't have seen her ever bringing it up again not only that but I can't actually remember telling her in any case.

Well have vivid dreams but a lot of the time I can't even remember what I dreamed of the previous night. However I'll never know now. I could have asked when my mum and dad where alive but it only came into my memory a few years ago.

Reminds me of the time I think I saw a copy of my mum.

Would have been about 8 or 9 and I woke up and the hall light was on. And my door was wide open. And i saw my mum walk down the corridor and turn unto her room, which was next to mine.

But she didn't turn the light off.
And something just felt, wrong.
For a start, it seemed as if she had just appeared at the end of the corridor. Not came through a door or round the landing. One second there was no one and then there she was.

I called out. There was no reply. I went to get out of bed but just had this overwhelming feeling of dread. And a feeling that that was not my mum. Even though it looked exactly like her.

For the next hour or so I called out for my parents and there was no reply. Not even a 'go back to sleep'. I stayed up for hours worrying.

Of course you think as an adult, maybe they were having some fun or something. But even that wouldn't make sense. They would have replied. Someone would have got up and turned the light out.

The next day they said they never even heard me calling. And not in the joking 'nope never heard a thing' way.

I always think back to it. It was so...off.

I recall hearing the saucepans etc clattering about downstairs and I was in bed and the rest of the family were still in their beds. It was always at the weekend I think.
The trouble is, I was young and now I'm not and so I can't be sure of my recollection but I've thought about it often.

Cats1234567 · 27/07/2023 11:21

I have had a few experiences. I have seen a ghost, who appeared to a solid form then disappeared right in front of me and my sister, I have had objects moved as if thrown in front of me, and recently I had a strange experience, I was fast asleep and heard an almighty loud clanging crash sound which woke me up. I have a set of roasting tins in my kitchen which are securely stored quite high up on my fridge. I found them on the floor, in different places, one of them was 8 feet or so from where it before. There was no one else in the house and those roasting tins had previously not been moved for at least a couple of weeks.
