What's happened to the BBC News app??

It's been updated and it's awful!

I can either see all the news they deem important or My News which I never really bothered with as I just went to most popular to find out the latest news that everyone was clicking on.

If I want a newspaper type view I use The Times app which I subscribe to. Where is the most popular feed view??

No - me too - am gutted because it5my favourite app and I use it all the time and it's terrible now! I've tried setting it up with my favourite feeds but it's not anywhere near as good....

KnickerlessParsons · 25/07/2023 21:01

It doesn't look any different to me.

AgnesX · 25/07/2023 21:04

The whole BBC news is going downhill. Full of puff pieces of "people interest"and if there's one segment with Sally whatsername doing the sad voice there's a million.

It's getting to be like a telly version of Best magazine.

Suspific · 26/07/2023 11:06

The newspaper apps are now better than the BBC app which wasn't previously the case. When I have 5 minutes I usually scroll through the BBC app but have found my finger hovering over it and then choosing Times Online and now started reading the Guardian online more.

It's totally different

RainbowConnection1 · 26/07/2023 11:10

It hasn't changed for me yet either.

Suspific · 26/07/2023 12:04

For those it hasn't updated yet don't allow it to update or it will be worse!

I get round it by opening incognito tab in chrome, so it's doesn't just open the app, and on the BBC news web page it still has most read. I think the update is awful, try uninstalling latest update?

I seem to be getting the main news headline and the rest is all sport. I have zero interest in cricket ffs. The new app is crap.

WhatADrabCarpet · 31/07/2023 17:39

I've stopped looking at the BBC for news .
I don't like being told what I should be reading with regard to news.

Elecronique · 05/08/2023 12:40

The BBC news app update is terrible. Bring back the previous version. Until then I'm deleting the app as its now mostly useless

RedDoughnut · 05/08/2023 12:47

And the Alexa upgrade is also awful, no facility to skip articles or to ask for more

crew2022 · 05/08/2023 12:48

I agree about the BBC news app. It was so easy to navigate and you got a real sense of the headlines and then other news. Now it's virtually impossible to get an overview and to find the latest news in categories that are of interest to you.

yoshiblue · 05/08/2023 13:02

Bloody awful update. I hate the endless scrolling disorganised mess that is the homepage!

I'll stick to the Guardian (though it's a bit too woke for me)

larkstar · 05/08/2023 13:29

I hated it too - I'm still not completely won over BUT I have complained to Aunty Beeb, the Independent, etc for the amount of headline coverage given to the US - every day I want to know - what's going on here WRT the NHS, education, the environment, interest rates and the economy, energy supply, homelessness, roads/transport/infrastructure, UK politics, local news, etc - I'm not interested in celeb gossip or yet another school shooting in the US so... I think what they have given the user is the chance to choose and order their news stories - it will just take a bit of getting used to. So far some of weak points for me are that:

  • I might miss out on something interesting (or be slow to pick up on it) if it's a story that doesn't fit into the categories I've chosen
  • I have to search for categories by keyword instead of being able to choose from a list
  • some items appear more than once as they fall into more than one category
Hmm - not sure about it ATM. Not loving it anyway. I'd prefer more than one "My News" section - I could put all the UK news in one part, all the science in another and all the arty things in yet another - so I'd like a more flexible way to structure my news. I'd also like to be able to set alerts by topic.
KnickerlessParsons · 05/08/2023 15:46

It's totally different

I've just checked, and it really isn't.

penelopepipsqueak · 05/08/2023 16:31

Mine is . It's awful now .

Neeko · 05/08/2023 16:38

I hate it too. Thanks for the link to allow me to state my views.

It really is and it's not an improvement, which would be the point you'd think.

And being told somethings a 'one minute read' at the top suggests the focus bar's a bit low too.

Linnet · 05/08/2023 16:43

You used to be able to click on the main headline then swipe through all the other news stories. It doesn't let you do that now which is irritating.

I've always had my news set up for local news but to be honest it's always been a bit rubbish, it never gets updated over the weekend at all.

Escapingtherealityoflife · 05/08/2023 16:51

I also have sport at the top of My News. Not sure why because I have no interest in it. I really liked the Latest News page but now there’s only 4 items to see.

custardlover · 05/08/2023 17:06

They test new designs all the time which is why some see it and some don't - it only rolls out to segments. All digital products do this all the time. If you don't use the new design then they'll scrap it. They optimise design based on behavioural user data.
