What's happened to the BBC News app??

It's been updated and it's awful!

I can either see all the news they deem important or My News which I never really bothered with as I just went to most popular to find out the latest news that everyone was clicking on.

If I want a newspaper type view I use The Times app which I subscribe to. Where is the most popular feed view??

I've the update and don't like it one bit! Its so much harder to use and I liked the distinctionbetweenthe top news and my news.(Twitter also updated to x at the same time. Don't like that change either)

trulyunruly01 · 05/08/2023 20:11

I seem to be directed to a page with about 16 rather obscure non-news headlines on it. Of the first 10 'top stories' at the moment, I'd say only 2/3 are proper national headlines. I don't really care where Hugh Jackman is today and I don't think that merits being No2 on 'top stories'.

I don't like it, I'm clicking elsewhere for the time being.

WeAreTheHeroes · 05/08/2023 20:23

I've just said to DP that Hugh Jackman at Wrexham's match is not news! That awful one page business and changing the navigation at the same time is just too much. It lacks clarity and organisation. I've told them it feels trashy now.

Boopear · 05/08/2023 20:29

And the vast amount of white space 😖.. just awful. It's like they really wanted to cut down on the content and the amount of stories shown. There was so much more content before.

Suspific · 06/08/2023 21:35

I've cut down on my usage for definite. And when I go on I just read the headlines, get bored and don't click on anything.

Not a fan. The main page is really spread out, so you see fewer headlines at once, and when you click on one you get a few lines of massive text to start with.

"My news" doesn't update at all unless you edit the categories or move them around; mine is currently stuck on news that is 4 days old Hmm.

Escapingtherealityoflife · 19/08/2023 23:34

I’ve moved to Sky News app

Suspific · 20/08/2023 16:38

Thanks for the tip. I'll download it and give it a go

Gave up looking as I haven’t got all day to meander through acres of dross. I kept scrolling through irrelevant articles but couldn’t find what I wanted. I used to use about 10 favourite menus as required but they’ve disappeared. What a disaster. Looking for a better news app as I can’t use this!

oliveoil2023 · 25/11/2023 14:49

Agree. Used to be the first app I opened in the morning. Now I astopped using it since their update. Can't believe how bad it is. I'm unable to personalise it. Uselss design. Deleted app and relaoded but no good. Can't believe BBC released it.

Bumble84 · 25/11/2023 14:51

I’m glad it’s not just me. The new app is terrible. I rarely use it at all now.

Suspific · 25/11/2023 22:04

It's still terrible and I don't even use it every day now. Maybe once or twice a week.

I thought if I kept trying it would become more user friendly through familiarisation. It hasn’t! Like others I rarely use it now as I can’t find the articles I want to read. Anyone know if there’s a feedback channel? I’d like to tell them what I think!!

WeAreTheHeroes · 26/11/2023 09:52

I gave feedback which has disappeared into the ether/been ignored. I feel now that an algorithm shows me certain stories, but I have a sense I don't actually know what's going on unless I seek out specific pages! It was much more straightforward before and I still hate it. I want to read the news, not multiple "interest" articles.

Is there a way of restoring an earlier version does anyone know?

larkstar · 26/11/2023 11:59

One of the annoying things is that if you opt to subscribe to various new categories your feed often contains links to the same story in several sections...

All that's needed is a modicum of intelligence in the app to exclude stories that are already being displayed leaving room for more content - it's just a waste of screen real estate.
