When only branded will do

Post-It notes. I've used so many generic Post-It notes that don't even stick the first time round, never mind trying to move and re-stick multiple times. Branded Post-It notes only, from now on. Anything else that just isn't the same when it's the generic offering?

That isn't universally true. I have several clients who make many different products for different supermarkets for their own-labels. None of them make/manufacture for brands.

And those who make for, for example, both Aldi and Waitrose- the recipes are different for different stores.

Me too. A friend is senior at a local ice cream supplier. They supply differently made cheaper products to Aldi and Morrisons. Part of his negotiations, to get the contract, centres on what can be changed to meet the price the supermarket wants to pay.

Mitchum deodorant, Diet Coke & Heinz ketchup for me.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 22/07/2023 16:13

Coca Cola. Nothing comes close, especially now pretty much all alternatives have sweeteners in

gogomoto · 22/07/2023 16:17

I haven't found a single product that I can't substitute (and the rest of the house don't even realise!) perhaps I will grant you Coke but unfortunately I can't drink caffeine really so that's out (caffeine free cola isn't available from supermarkets as a generic).

Even the holy grail of ketchup is now lidl own brand here after I substituted and they didn't notice because I decanted it ( then came clean a month later)

Yiayoula · 22/07/2023 16:20

Bonne Maman conserves
Maille Hollandaise sauce
Fage Greek yoghurt
Heinz baked beans
Canderel sweetener ( tablet and powder )
Kellogg’s corn flakes

But Lidl own-brand chocolate bars are the best !

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 22/07/2023 16:21

Kerrygold
Lindt dark chocolate bars
Jack and Eddie's sausages

classylassie · 22/07/2023 16:21

Ariel washing powder

MillWood85 · 22/07/2023 16:21

Very rarely buy own branded items. I'd rather have less and enjoy it more.

Hellmans Mayo is non negotiable.
For DH it's jolly hog bacon and sausages.
Jamie Oliver pasta. I have no idea why it's so good but it's the best pasta.

Echobelly · 22/07/2023 16:22

Agree about Fairy liquid, just works better and lasts longer than all the others
Heinz ketchup - I'll use generic mayonnaise, but other ketchup doesn't really work for us

iamnottoofatiamjusttooshort · 22/07/2023 16:22

Hellmans mayonnaise

I love a bit of Aldi but uuuurrrggghh

Yiayoula · 22/07/2023 16:22

Oh , and it used to be Fentimans ginger beer until they b*sed about with the recipe .

PollyThePixie · 22/07/2023 16:24

HedgesNotFences · 22/07/2023 14:02

Nope. It’s all the same stuff.
It’s not like Tesco have millions if massive factories producing things- they are all made by the same factories producing the brands, just different labels.

But how does that explain the different taste, textures and smell of branded versus own label items. They even look different.

Yiayoula · 22/07/2023 16:24

Agree with previous poster who said Fairy Liquid seems thinner , and definitely not as bubbly, as it used to be .
( remember when all this was fields ….) 🤣

smilesup · 22/07/2023 16:29

Most things are substituted here must have saved £1000s over the years. But Blu Tac has to be the real one and cornflakes. They will eat the Aldi fakes but moan the whole time.

Yiayoula · 22/07/2023 16:22

Oh , and it used to be Fentimans ginger beer until they b*sed about with the recipe .

Try Supermalt ginger beer. It's still got sugar in it.

Yiayoula · 22/07/2023 16:40

Thank you, @LadyOfTheCanyon !
Just added to next Friday’s Tesco order .
