When only branded will do

Post-It notes. I've used so many generic Post-It notes that don't even stick the first time round, never mind trying to move and re-stick multiple times. Branded Post-It notes only, from now on. Anything else that just isn't the same when it's the generic offering?

Heinz tomato ketchup - other brands taste of cinnamon.

MrsSkylerWhite · 22/07/2023 14:35

Branston baked beans
Laughing Cow light (half price in Morrisons atm 😁)

elfx · 22/07/2023 14:36

Walkers crisps, branded cereal, cadburys chocolate!

elfx · 22/07/2023 14:37

Oh and Heinz beans!

Lonelycrab · 22/07/2023 14:38

iPhone/iPad chargers. Bought several copies that either didn’t work or rapidly stopped working.

grayhairdontcare · 22/07/2023 14:40

Pepsi max
Fairy washing up liquid

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 22/07/2023 14:41

Almost everything from food to clothes to toys to furniture.

Its rare I buy cheap and think how great it is.

Not a brag or boast either, I buy very little but try to buy well.

SuperSange · 22/07/2023 14:46

I find Branston beans nicer than Heinz.

Crikeyalmighty · 22/07/2023 14:48

Branston beans

Maille tartare sauce

Sabra hummus

Kikkoman soy sauce

Nope. It’s all the same stuff.
It’s not like Tesco have millions if massive factories producing things- they are all made by the same factories producing the brands, just different labels.

The own-brand stuff might be made in the same factory, but to different recipes and probably with cheaper ingredients. They won't be the same product as the branded one from the same supplier.

bluechameleon · 22/07/2023 14:53

Pritt stick. Every so often someone at every school I've worked at will decide to save money by buying generic, all the work will fall out of the books, there will be uproar and they will go back to Pritt stick.

earsup · 22/07/2023 14:53

proper plasters, cant remember brand, cheap ones dont stick, not sure about Fairy liquid now...seems quite thin and not as good....i suspect its a trick to make us buy that new range of fairy that is out and double the price...!!

AnnaNims · 22/07/2023 14:56

Mrs Elswood gherkins.

iklboo · 22/07/2023 15:00

Colmans English Mustard. Nothing else comes close to it.

Ladysaurus · 22/07/2023 15:05

Sketchers dlights. They're the comfiest shoes for working on my feet all day and come in smart all black.

Isseywith3witchycats · 22/07/2023 15:05

Branston baked beans and fairy washing up liquid in this house
the beans both of us prefer them the fairy is my OHs snobbery he says it works better and being as he does the washing up i allow him his indulgence over aldi washing up liquid

whirlyhead · 22/07/2023 15:05

Stokes tomato sauce.

way better than any other brand and sold in sainsburys thank god.

MrsAvocet · 22/07/2023 15:09

Napoli tinned tomatoes are non negotiable for me, and I also only buy Alpro soya milk.
At the opposite end of the scale I bought a pile of sweets from Lidl for prizes at a kids' event I was running the other week and their mini "mars bars" were lovely, and a fraction of the price of the real ones. It was something ridiculous like £3.25 for a bag of genuine mars bars and £1.20 for the Lidl ones and I don't think I would have known the difference apart from the wrappers.

finewelshcheese · 22/07/2023 15:10

WillowtreeHouse · 22/07/2023 14:20

It used to be Heinz baked beans for years until I had Branstons as a substitute and now I wouldn't buy anything else.

Agreed, branston are king of beans.

My dm used to insist I got domestos bleach for her when I went shopping and I thought she was mad until I tried it. Shop's own bleach just isn't as good.

That isn't universally true. I have several clients who make many different products for different supermarkets for their own-labels. None of them make/manufacture for brands.

And those who make for, for example, both Aldi and Waitrose- the recipes are different for different stores.

ReviewingTheSituation · 22/07/2023 15:20

New York Co bagels. Have yet to find an own label one which comes close.

Gingernaut · 22/07/2023 15:22

Pepsi Max
Gorilla Glue
Post-Its

murasaki · 22/07/2023 15:28

Hellmans mayo
Birds eye fishfingers
Fairy liquid
Andrex quilted bog roll
Regina kitchen towel
Havaiana flip flops

Otherwise I'm open to change

MammaTo · 22/07/2023 15:32

To be honest I’m a bit of a brand snob for most things, the future for me does not look good in this cost of living crisis.

devildeepbluesea · 22/07/2023 15:34

Pretty much nothing. Except perhaps Colmans English mustard. Nothing else is quite as hot.
