To butter or not to butter?

Do you butter crackers before adding cheese?

My husband and I can't agree. I suppose it's down to personal taste but I wondered what the consensus is.

I don't butter, just cheese and crackers is perfect for me.

Cookerhood · 22/07/2023 10:07

Butter on crackers but not if I'm having digestives with cheese.

Enko · 22/07/2023 10:08

No

I do on toast with cheese

AppleCinnamonBagel · 22/07/2023 10:08

I do sometimes. A buttered cracker or matzo is a thing of delight. But usually if it's just a quick snack it'll be cheese on cracker/suggestive biscuit.

BMW6 · 22/07/2023 10:18

I always butter because it stops the cheese falling off

YakChewCrumbs · 22/07/2023 10:19

Always butter.

MissingMoominMamma · 22/07/2023 10:20

I don’t butter if I’m adding cheese. I do like buttered crackers as a snack though.

msbevvy · 22/07/2023 10:20

Butter, unless it's cream cheese.

PegasusReturns · 22/07/2023 10:21

Always butter
preferably French with salt crystals.

Newestname002 · 22/07/2023 12:04

No butter but a good chutney or a tangy quince jelly. 🌹

TonTonMacoute · 22/07/2023 12:12

Cheese and butter?

No.

Limer · 22/07/2023 12:14

No butter, but I spread the crackers with chutney to stop the cheese falling off.

LMNT · 22/07/2023 12:15

I eat butter and cheese together, throw away the cracker!

CindersAgain · 22/07/2023 12:15

Yes to butter.

SallyWD · 22/07/2023 12:16

Yes definitely

GellerYeller · 22/07/2023 12:18

To me crackers are just the necessary vessel to get butter in my mouth. Cheese is optional. Agree it does fall off so butter as adhesive otherwise!

off · 22/07/2023 12:20

I'm just intrigued by the suggestive biscuit.

JobzaGoodun · 22/07/2023 12:22

Just cheese nowadays, but I've just had a flashback to childhood and eating buttered Jacobs crackers. Licking them so that only the butter in the little 'dips' stayed on the cracker.

And I say butter, to be real I mean it was probably Happy Shopper marge.

DoAWheelie · 22/07/2023 12:23

Butter with hard cheeses but not with soft ones

AtleastitsnotMonday · 22/07/2023 12:53

No, I only use butter when there is no other ingredients involved. I can't understand butter in a bacon sandwich or on scrambled egg on toast or on a jacket potato if adding a topping like beans, cheese coleslaw etc. The only exception to the rule is marmite which requires a thin layer of butter first.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 22/07/2023 13:08

I think butter interferes with the taste of the cheese, so just cheese and crackers possibly with chutney if easily available. Crackers with butter are an entirely different but also delicious snack.

FrivolousTreeDuck · 22/07/2023 13:09

No, makes the cracker too slippery so the cheese slides about unappealingly when you bite into it.

travailtotravel · 22/07/2023 13:09

Enko · 22/07/2023 10:08

No

I do on toast with cheese

I really want a suggestive cracker now. Fab autocorrect.

user1471517095 · 22/07/2023 13:15

I only use butter if it's a British Hard Cheese such as Chedder or Lancashire. Anything else, No.

CurlewKate · 22/07/2023 13:17

Not with cheese. But I do butter a cracker for marmite.
