Does anyone else get holiday dread?

We are going away this week. Instead of feeling excited I just feel like I'm dreading it and thinking things like 'this time two weeks we will be on our way home'.

I don't like leaving the dog. I worry about getting sick while we are there. I've done loads of research but I still can't relax into it.

I feel holidays are overrated. All the packing and sorting stuff for me and the kids falls to me as my ex never came with us when we were together ajd ge won't be now. I just end up having full responsibility for everything, while he got 2 weeks off and I no longer have my escape route of work. I'm single now have been for over 2 years and I still can't be arsed. If I wanna be stuck dealing with arguing children I'd rather do it at home where I can go to the gym or work when I've had enough. Ill also have zero help with washing everything and putting it away when ii get home so within a day it feels like you never went anywhere.

When I studied Psychology at college going on holiday was cited as one of the top every day common stressful events;it always stuck with me as I thought going on holiday would be a happy event.

I honestly detest the holiday preparation.

I’m the same. It’s actually very common. A lot of people have anxiety around travel & holidays. I always enjoy it when I get there, so it’s worth it for me. In fact, the worse thing you can do is stop going on holiday, because then the anxiety wins & you never learn to deal with it & push through it.

My anxiety on holiday last year led me to being suicidal. DD is always a nightmare as she won't eat or drink and moans every time I put suncream on her. Last year DS was a baby so that was a whole load of stress. DH just floats through the entire thing.

We're on our first holiday on our own, day three and we've had three arguments one in Tesco before we arrived

Just told OH I won't come back here and would actually like to go home, it's a lovely place, spotlessly clean but smells of dog. Owners got their own dog last year so probably don't realise.

Just to say we're back home safe and sound! The dog was fine. No one got sick (I got badly bitten and had a bad cold but nothing major). My exhaustive research meant it was all fine!!

I actually calmed down a lot the day before.

Not so much before going but once I'm there I just want to come home after a couple of days !

Am a glutton for punishment and am going away again this week. Am actually contemplating paying for flights to come back a day early - and were only going for four nights! Kids are saying with my sister and that is adding to the stress!!

I bloody love holidays and really enjoy the whole process of planning and booking them. I get great pleasure thinking what I'm going to do when I'm there, and also what I'm going to wear, and what the weather is going to be like...

However, I always get very stressed just beforehand, mainly because I'm a teeny bit of a workaholic and always need to get a big list of work done beforehand. And that seems to knock on to everything else - I've never had a good night's sleep the night before I go away on holiday. What helps for me is being ultra-organised. I write lists, I put stuff in piles days beforehand, I pack early, I make sure I've got copies of all my documents in case my phone dies/gets stolen. If I've got a flight or train to catch at a certain time, I work back to be entirely sure when I need to leave and then add on an extra half hour - just in case.
