Did Uxbridge just vote for Climate Change?

By 495 votes? The reason for the narrow Tory win appears to be down to a campaign against the Ultra Low Emmission Zone. Cleaner air, doing something positive about Climate Change, helped by access to the best Public transport network in the country? Nah, more of the same please; dirty air and dirty politics. FFS Uxbridge.

There are 3 buses an hour.
That is more than some places see in a week.

Not in London

So we can agree that Harefield is much better connected than many places in this country.

Schools....if there are no spaces you have little choice bus from Hayes to Harefield takes 90 minutes car 20 you also have 4 buses. Especially if all are crammed with school kids. Then HS2 road closures that mean it takes an hour longer yep great. If you needed to go on a bus that involved 4 changes and took that long how far would you travel 5 miles, 10?

If the nearest suitable school is more than 2 miles away for under 8s or 3 miles away for over 8s the council have to provide transport.

My mum used to say Labour aren't smart enough, i think she was right, they should have put the ULEZ on hold, the Tories are cock-a-hoop over this win, as are their media.... its wrecked Lab's momentum and taken away from the brilliant win in Selby.

Bizarrely, Schapps is "supposed" to have told Khan he must implement ULEZ as part of more funding.... again, the Cons pull one over Lab.

Alexandra2001 · 21/07/2023 20:43

@jgw1 Without subsidy, many lower paid workers will be adversely effected by ULEZ, its something Lab have to take on board.

No matter the merits, unless they carried public support, Green policies are doomed to failure.

They will just be portrayed as leftie liberal elites out of touch.. again.

Whopping majority there for successful Tory. About 500 votes. Everyone take a very deep breath.

I do think labour need to be careful. Between ulez (isnt birmingham getting one) and the women issue they are not the sure fire win.“

“Birmingham already has a LEZ and is a much improved place for it.”

Indeed. The conservative government also agreed to a scrapage scheme in Birmingham (with its Conservative metro mayor). Didn’t agree to the same in London with its Labour mayor. Funny, that.
