Carol Vorderman is on the case...

Dan Wootton has deleted all reference to Huw Edwards from his profile

More likely he didn't tweet anything because he was holiday in New Zealand?

Failing to tweet doesn't automatically delete stuff from your timeline. In particularly, it doesn't selectively delete all references to one particular individual.

Roussette
I call her holding people to account

If the deleted tweets exist I expect someone will be able to retrieve them - then we can all read them.

Literally thousands of people already have.

CarlosAlcaraz · 19/07/2023 09:18

So if DW denies deleting tweets about HE but people have found them , why aren't they showing on his Twitter? I must admit I don't really understand how Twitter works.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 19/07/2023 09:19

Oh goodness, it looks like Dan is getting a taste of his own medicine! It seems now that Times Up for journalists too, its their turn. Hounding and judging other people behind the 'its my job' defence seems to have only lasted so long. Now they'll be scrutinised and outed like they have done to so many others. It may well be there is no criminal activity, but if he has targeted male colleagues, straight or not, then he deserves to be outed for the absolute hypocritical sleazy lying fool he is. He said Schofield should have been taken off air, so why isn't he? Until they've investigated it all fully and he's been cleared, he should do what he decided was fair for others.

I'm not a Twitter user but I believe that people will have screenshotted or had archive copies of his tweets before they disappeared.

Dan's problem is that he stuck his head above the parapet to throw stones. If you're going to do that, then you need to make sure that you are clean as a whistle first. Take the beam out of your own eye and all that. Eamonn Holmes had better hope that he's no skeletons in his cupboard after the amount of chelping he did about PS.

I was really surprised at Eamon.

Fine if you speak out about Schofield’s behaviour or flag up safeguarding concerns (like Dr Ranj).

But the tangent he went on about Schofield being a terrible presenter and how he’s much better, and the Holly would never party with Allison Hammond a few years ago, it seemed so petty and like he had personal gripes against those two.

Rainbunny · 19/07/2023 09:54

So the Byline Times handed over all their information about this to the Met Police. Good.

Yes he has a presumption of innocence but the evidence described in the BT article is pretty damning, including his confession to his ex-partner.

Whether he's guilty of some criminality or not he is undoubtedly a loathsome awful person. He's literally the fucking worst, so I will allow myself some guilt-free schadenfreude and my sympathies are entirely with the people he (allegedly) victimised.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 19/07/2023 10:12

Byline Investigates will publish the second of three instalments to their investigation on Wednesday.

CarlosAlcaraz · 19/07/2023 10:20

@Iwantcakeeveryday is that today?

Iwantcakeeveryday · 19/07/2023 10:23

I think so, that was a short piece form them on what he said last night, and they said the second instalment 'will be published Wednesday'. I assume that is today not next week.

Eamonn was like a bitchy mean girl, but I've never had time for him, so there we go.

Yes, more from Byline this afternoon.

You don’t have to be religious to recognise what good advice ‘let him without sin cast the first stone’ is. I mean, they figured this out a couple of thousand years ago and it’s stood the test of time over and over again.

Which people have already read them? Lots of people have tweeted 'apparently...'

Why would DW deny deleting tweets about HE when this would be so easy to disprove? Doesn't make sense to me.

Im sure if people have copies of his tweets, they'd be plastered all over sm .

Indeed, and also Dan Wootton is evidently not an innocent until proven guilty type himself. So inevitably that standard won't be applied to him either.

I wonder if the Sun will come to regret publishing the Huw Edwards story? If the Private Eye excerpt from 2018 was indeed about them, Wootton and a settlement agreement... it wasn't an especially wise thing of them to do.

I love PE but it so dense I miss/don’t fully absorb things - particularly since dd came along with her loudness! Grin

I need to give the podcast a go….

Its been all over twitter. Not sure if it was picked up on at the time. But yeah, it's a brilliant institution.

Even if none of the allegations are true, Wotton is still a detestable, twisted, human being who has made his career from persecuting and harassing people in a vulnerable state. As such, he deserves all acrimony coming his way.

I really don't like Dan Wootton and think he's a grubby little creep - and yes he has said some nasty things about other people, and quite often.

However as a few other posters have said - you can't just make stuff up about people and present it as truth, just to get at them, because you don't like them...

The world doesn't work like that ... It's called slander and libel and both are a crime ... If you are convicted of it, you will actually get sued for it and end up in court for it .... probably get a criminal record that can actually affect a lot of things in your life..... Like getting a mortgage, getting a loan, getting a credit card, getting a job, getting insurance, and your finances ... etc etc........

Sounds ridiculous, but you go and post shit on the Internet that isn't true about people and they can't sue you and it could really upend your life. Sort of a punishment for trying to upend THEIRS.

Anxioys · 19/07/2023 11:42

Well he may fall into the "you were useful for a while Dan but now no one will listen to you".

That said, his reputation seems like it's the pits anyway. So it's different potentially from HE who had this "public figure" image which the BBC paid him for.

Why do GB News or the DM pay Dan Wootton? Because he's opinionated in the way they like and gets around legal issues by posing things as questions. He's not a serious person, he bullies celebrities.

Sorry, who do you mean? If you're talking about Andy Coulson or Clive Goodman there doesn't appear to be any connection.

Byline's founders and staff are listed here.

Peter Jukes did, however, live tweet the hacking trial but was definitely not a defendent.

Dan Evans, founding editor of Byline Investigates their sister company who do the investigative journalism which Byline Times reports on.

He was convicted of phone hacking in 2014, receiving a suspended jail sentence in return for giving evidence against his colleagues.

I had no idea he was behind the “Hollywood HIV A Lister”
story, trying to out and demonise someone HIV positive. What a truly revolting man 🤮

He's a reformed character now working for the common good and that's great. Poacher tuned gatekeeper as it were so he has first-hand knowledge of how grubby the Uk tabloid world actually is.

Phone hacking reporter Dan Evans spared jail

Ex-News of the World and Sunday Mirror reporter Dan Evans is sentenced to a 10-month suspended jail sentence after admitting charges including phone hacking.
