What job do you loathe and wish someone could take away

I’m procrastinating - I have a HUGE sort out job ahead of me. Two young kids and I’ve been putting off the paperwork/ life admin for far too long and it’s all got on top of me. Half of it is DH’s but I’m on mat leave so using some of the time to tackle it head on before I go back to work.

I’m sure there would be people who don’t mind a clean out and bit of organising, but I hate doing it. Love the feeling after but dread the task ahead - hence the procrastination.

If you could hand off a job what would it be and why? Trying to make myself feel better that there are worse chores I could be doing

Putting away laundry is AWFUL, and is made worse by the fact I let it all pile up until the weekend, and then it takes forever.

Meal planning, shopping and cooking the family meals every bloody day

All of this! Over the years I’ve sometimes been tempted to just stop and see if anyone notices but then my inner control freak won’t let me!

Do what my DP does and outsource your thinking. Questions he’s asked recently: did I have a shower yesterday? What do we need from the shop? What are we having for dinner? What time shall I make lunch for? What chores are there today? What’s the plan now? The plan is FUCK OFF, I’M NOT IN CHARGE.

He comes and reports to me too: “Right, I’ve put the dishwasher on a filter clean cycle, put a wash on, emptied the bathroom bin, just need to take the recycling out then I’m done.” Makes me want to scream: I don’t care! I don’t recite the things I’ve done when I’ve done them! It doesn’t count as 50% of the load if you then tell me about it, or ask me what needs doing. Just do it! Secretly! Get out of my brain!

I've never liked cooking !
It's something you can't avoid, but I wished I could

I don’t mind it, but cooking shows annoy the heck out of me (especially the likes of Masterchef) because they have bog all to do with the reality of everyday boring food preparation with everyday boring ingredients just to keep body and soul together.

elliejjtiny · 18/07/2023 11:37

@bussteward didn't think of that. It would be so nice to not have to think about stuff like repeat prescriptions, meal plans and shopping lists. I also have a dh who seems not to register that if he doesn't do his job of going to Tesco then I can't cook the dinner unless he wants to eat some weird combination of last week's leftovers.

Changing the bed. Despise it.

Working out what to have for tea/dinner

Cleaning the shower cubicle

I came on to say changing the bed. I’m recovering from a broken arm and it’s been my go to excuse to get out of it but I can only use it for so long.

Deciding what to eat and cooking/meal prep. I hate it with a passion and have no interest in food other than taking in enough to meet energy requirements. Cooking is just a pointless, boring, mess making annoyance. You'd think they'd have come up with an alternative by now 😂

Any kind of gardening. To be honest, if I ever found myself with a significant amount of money, there are lots of things I'd be paying people to do! All I want to do is sit around, eat snacks and read. Is that so wrong?! (I am joking, I promise).

Putting anything away repeatedly. So unloading the dishwasher. Putting away clean clothes. On repeat. Numerous times a day sometimes. Kill me now.

Also hoovering. Mainly because bastarding Henry always falls over or gets stuck on furniture and I want to volley him.
