What job do you loathe and wish someone could take away

I’m procrastinating - I have a HUGE sort out job ahead of me. Two young kids and I’ve been putting off the paperwork/ life admin for far too long and it’s all got on top of me. Half of it is DH’s but I’m on mat leave so using some of the time to tackle it head on before I go back to work.

I’m sure there would be people who don’t mind a clean out and bit of organising, but I hate doing it. Love the feeling after but dread the task ahead - hence the procrastination.

If you could hand off a job what would it be and why? Trying to make myself feel better that there are worse chores I could be doing

We bought plates that don’t fit in our dishwasher and it gives me the rage every time I have to hand wash them! And my husbands knives, they are hand washed

Most dishwashers have a way of adjusting the rack height so you can fit in large plates - we had a similar issue. It's not at all obvious but Google it with your make of dishwasher!

Putting the clean washing away!

But also the washing and the drying! I would pay £££ (if I had £££) for a laundry pick-up service that also put it all away. I just want the whole thing to be done, invisibly. It’s relentless.

Not helped by DP’s system which is to say, 100 times a day, he’s going to sort some clean washing out. Then he disappears for an hour and you think, great, the whole family’s washing should be away, a new wash on, another wash pegged out, and the bedrooms tidied in that time. And all he’s done is arrange his stuff into meaningless piles all over the bed in such a way no one can nap, go to bed, or easily put away his fucking 10,000 clothes because he’s got nine different sock piles and no one understands his fucking system.
….and breathe.

Cooking for me. I absolutely detest it.

A few people always say "getting petrol" on these threads. What's so awful about it? I'll get your petrol for all you petrol haters - I rather like doing it.

Same, but yesterday, I took my new to him husband's car to fill it up and the petrol cap release catch was not there! It's under the steering wheel, had me almost foxed!

Washing up. Absolutely despise it. Bought my house specifically because it had a dishwasher but sadly some things still need hand washing! I do procrastinate filing and putting the washing away as well because they don’t feel urgent but I don’t mind them once I’ve carved out the time.

We operate a Darwin approach to this - if it doesn’t survive in the dishwasher it’s doesn’t belong in our house 😂

ShakeYourFeathers · 17/07/2023 13:14

Sorting my bedroom especially clothes out!

Want a rainy day but there's always something else going on

Snailsaresweet · 17/07/2023 13:19

Unloading the dishwasher. Mainly because of the inevitable feeling of disappointment when some items turn out to be dirty, and have to be then handwashed..

FelicityFlops · 17/07/2023 13:20

Dusting, hate it.

Feeding the dogs

Defiently this! It's actually quite a simple job so I don't know why I hate it so much 😂

Courgeon · 17/07/2023 13:24

I used to really enjoy cooking and am good at it but after 17 years of family life I now hate it. From thinking what to cook, getting the ingredients, making it to tidying up after. I hate the whole process. When I'm on my own I just tend to eat snacks, meals are too much for me. Cognitive overwhelm. It's a shame as I used to make lovely meals but will now do anything to avoid it

MuggleMe · 17/07/2023 13:26

Selling/donating my decluttered stuff, doing the washing up (95% goes in the dishwasher so the remaining pan or tray can languish for a week). Cleaning out the fridge.

Horsedoglover59 · 17/07/2023 13:26

Pretty much all household chores especially at present as I have really bad sciatica and don't want to face the absolute chaos in the kitchen that my OH will have made.
But normally I hate washing up, and changing the beds - especially duvet covers!

We’ve recently bought new knives that we can just throw in the dishwasher for this reason.

We still have the really good ones that have to be hand washed, but it was becoming such a chore and they spent most of their time living on the side waiting to be washed than they did in the rack they lived in 😂

The cooking thing is just relentless. Three meals a day forever. It's so dull. If I'm ever filthy rich, the first thing I'm doing is hiring a cook.
Changing the bed, definitely. I hate wrestling with duvet covers.

Cattenberg · 17/07/2023 13:29

I don’t mind washing up that much. I look at a big pile of dishes with dread, then five minutes later it’s all done and that feels good.

I can’t stand ironing and I really hate filing my post.

FourTeaFallOut · 17/07/2023 13:31

Don't mind washing, drying and ironing clothes but folding the unironables and sorting the undies and socks into piles is a pita.

Procrastinatingbecauseithelps · 17/07/2023 13:32

I’ve been tempted to get a cleaner or someone to come in and help with some of the tasks in the house at different points in the past, but I find the idea of someone else in my home rifling around / thinking I’m a messy so and so etc off putting.

does anyone else find this? How do you overcome it?

Worth noting that I most definitely could not afford a full-time cleaner, more of a sporadic type set out for specific tasks

Ifulikepinacoladas · 17/07/2023 13:32

@Time40 seriously if you lived near me I would take you up on that 😂

But why does anyone hate any job, its just preference? I quite like cleaning the bathroom, others don't, but I can see why they wouldn't.

ArcticBells · 17/07/2023 13:34

Home paperwork despite it also being my day job

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 17/07/2023 13:41

Cooking regular meals. Once a fortnight or so would do me, with salad and toast the test of the time.

Putting the grocery shopping away. I have been known to put the full bags under the table and just put some stuff in the fridge. The rest waits in the bags until needed.

Polishing the silver but DH likes doing that.

Ironing and poo picking the horse fields

You iron the horse fields? I salute your commitment 😂

Loafbeginsat60 · 17/07/2023 13:42

I wash them at 60 first!

Riapia · 17/07/2023 13:43

Showering, I fucking loathe it.

SirChenjins · 17/07/2023 13:45

Menu planning and food shopping (online or in person). When I retire and DC3 has flown the nest DH and I will live on ready meals or bread/cheese/ham/fruit.

Time40 · 17/07/2023 13:46

But why does anyone hate any job, its just preference?

I don't know. I realised late in life that I prefer the dirtier, outdoor jobs. I don't mind gardening, which for years and years I just assumed I would hate, so never tried it until I was an advanced age. Cooking drives me mad - I hate everything about it. It's annoying and fiddly, and very very boring. It makes me feel as though there is an alarm going off in my head, screaming "Make it stop!"

LittleGreenDuck · 17/07/2023 13:47

Putting away the grocery shopping. I'm happy to go to the shops and buy everything, just can't be arsed to put it all away when I get home.

We also have the rule that if kitchen utensils can't go in the dishwasher, they don't live in our house.
