What job do you loathe and wish someone could take away

I’m procrastinating - I have a HUGE sort out job ahead of me. Two young kids and I’ve been putting off the paperwork/ life admin for far too long and it’s all got on top of me. Half of it is DH’s but I’m on mat leave so using some of the time to tackle it head on before I go back to work.

I’m sure there would be people who don’t mind a clean out and bit of organising, but I hate doing it. Love the feeling after but dread the task ahead - hence the procrastination.

If you could hand off a job what would it be and why? Trying to make myself feel better that there are worse chores I could be doing

Getting petrol. Would happily pay for someone to go and get it for me

Same. I run it down to the fumes and play russian roulette with the fuel light cos I cba going for petrol.

BettyRoodBoy · 17/07/2023 14:02

When the kids needed a baby car seat, folding pram and a toddler car seat I would've paid someone to put all that in the car for me, strapping the kids in and getting it all out again and carrying it to/ from the door. My worst ever job, that, for some reason.

GetOurraMeWay · 17/07/2023 14:04

Cooking. But not just the actual meal prep- it's the constant thinking of what to have/shopping for it/cooking it/tidying up after cooking/getting moaned at because someone suddenly doesn't like it. I hate it ALL. If I had my way we'd all live on toast.

I’ve been tempted to get a cleaner or someone to come in and help with some of the tasks in the house at different points in the past, but I find the idea of someone else in my home rifling around / thinking I’m a messy so and so etc off putting.

does anyone else find this? How do you overcome it?

Worth noting that I most definitely could not afford a full-time cleaner, more of a sporadic type set out for specific tasks

I have a cleaner every two weeks.

I've been burned before so it was really difficult for me to trust.

She's wonderful and doesn't judge at all, at least not that I can see.

Cooking. It just gives me the rage, I realise this is a ridiculous , overdramatic way to feel about something that is an everyday thing.

Same. Now DH does all the cooking and dishes, I do all the cleaning. Life is now bliss.

curlycat · 17/07/2023 14:25

@Procrastinatingbecauseithelps I'll happily come and do your paperwork/organising I love it if you come to mine and get rid of the constant bloody dog hair everywhere all the time every sodding day. I have no idea how she's not bald!!

Whichwhatnow · 17/07/2023 14:26

Changing the bedding (duvet covers aargh!), washing up and laundry. Thankfully we now have a lovely cleaner who does the bedding every week, a dishwasher, and DH has accepted laundry as 'his' job (in return I do all general tidying, dishwasher loading/unloading and 95% of the cooking, which is fine by me!).

I used to be self-employed and many of my friends still are - January always sees endless ranting/whinging/panicked posts on FB about filing self-assessment forms with HMRC. Glad I'm now just PAYE and never have to deal with that again!!

GEC44 · 17/07/2023 14:30

Cleaning the shower
Mopping bathroom floor
Taking the rubbish out
Feeding the dog
Ironing DH's shirts

I'm also not a fan of trying to find places to eat on holiday and the endless shlepping about looking at menus. However. I refuse to cook on holiday, even boiling an egg gives me the rage as it will involve clear up and a trip to a shop which is not what I want to be doing.

The best holidays I've had was one eye we had an in house cook (stayed in a chateau) and only had to grab breakfast and some yoga retreats I've been on where amazing food is bought to you, served up, taken away and washed up. It's heaven.

Devgov · 17/07/2023 14:47

Loathe cooking. If a recipe’s got more than 3 or 4 ingredients I just can’t be bothered 🙄

LaMaG · 17/07/2023 15:32

For me it's the constant thinking that drains me. I want a manager - someone to tell me what needs to be done so I just do it and my mind is at rest. I want to do my business in the toilet without mentally checking if it needs a clean, take a snack from the cupboard without thinking when I'm doing the next shop, eat a breakfast without thinking if I have time to throw on a wash.

LaMaG · 17/07/2023 15:33

You know - like men do.

(Sorry couldn't resist, not ALL of them obviously just all I know 😊)

It's funny cos it's true 😁

I set fire to the kitchen 15 years ago and have been banned from cooking ever since so I recommend that if you hate cooking.

sorting out filing. I have tons of folders full of paperwork to go through and I can’t be arsed.

I’m moving house and would love to go to sleep for the next 6 months and wake up and find that someone else has had to deal with the associated shit ton of misery associated with moving.

MinnieMountain · 17/07/2023 16:52

Meal planning. I don’t mind cooking but I need someone to tell me exactly what to cook each day.

JanesBlond · 17/07/2023 13:00

Cast iron! Also some things that possibly could go in the dishwasher but would/might get damaged - some glasses we have that have embellishments on that would come off in the dishwasher, the good knives, and DH’s nonstick frying pan.

@ThatFraggle
I also have quite a few things that are too big for the dishwasher! Like pots and pans.
Or just single items that will be needed before the dishwasher is full.

So glad to meet all you cooking haters, it seems the world loves cooking except me. If I'm on my own I eat cereal, yoghurt and fruit and seeds, bread and cheese and the odd ready meal, with lots of preprepared salads. Am absolutely not cooking again if I don't need to.

Notellinganyone · 17/07/2023 17:22

Cleaning the oven - I don’t and just pay someone every couple of years. Changing the bedding- hate it with a passion but love clean bedding.

stargirl1701 · 17/07/2023 17:27

Planning meals. I know understand my mother's frustration.

stayathomer · 17/07/2023 17:34

Lostinplaces
Fucking everything. Need a maid.

Yes!! This! (But mostly:

cleaning the bathroom (particularly the shower)

Washing out the bin (as in the one outside)

We have a big bread board that everyone uses but doesn’t fit in the sink and when you try to wash it you flood the draining board. It makes me irrationally angry but people use it to make pizza dough, put jam or chocolate spread on things … basically it’s always filthy

JanesBlond · 17/07/2023 17:43

Washing out the bin (as in the one outside)

I’ve literally never done this!

On my own I eat crackers and cheese with pickles, pitta bread and dips, cheese on toast, various quick sandwiches. Various fruits and crisps. No proper meal making. Am done with it. Especially after lockdown...I actually thought if I had to chop another onion I'd smash the kitchen up.

BounceyB · 17/07/2023 17:46

All of it except cooking.

Crikeyalmighty · 17/07/2023 17:48

Got to be ironing!!

Jennalong · 17/07/2023 17:48

Peeling potatoes .
