Delay ttc or not at age 40?

Ivebeenwaiting · 15/07/2023 17:39

We’ve been ttc for nearly 2 years now . I now need an op (GA for wisdom tooth removal) but I don’t know how long the waiting list will be? They really need removing but I’m worried if I put off ttc is that stupid at my age ? Or is it better to get them out (can they cause serious issues during pregnancy if they get infected again ?)

Im not sure what to do 😩

Don’t think you can afford to wait at 40 tbh

AnaNimmity · 15/07/2023 17:40

If you’ve been ttc for 2 years without success, I’d be looking into ivf tbh. Time really isn’t on your side and I’d def not be delaying for any reason.

This is what I’m thinking but then I keep going back and forth with what ifs

You haven’t fallen pregnant despite two years of trying

You are 40

and you are asking whether you should delay.

op, read the above two points and see what answer you come to

TeaKitten · 15/07/2023 17:41

After 2 years TTC at 40 you really can’t afford to delay

CornedBeef451 · 15/07/2023 17:42

To be honest at 40 I don't think you can afford to delay ttc unless a doctor tells you it's mandatory.

BritishDesiGirl · 15/07/2023 17:42

You don't know how long you will take to get pregnant or how long you will be on the waiting list for your OP. Why can't you TTC while waiting for your OP?

All investigations so far have been normal so it’s apparently unexplained . I was going to look into ivf but then this happened (terrible infections) I think I just want to make sure that if I don’t get then removed and I do manage to get pregnant that it can’t cause any harm as I’m not sure I could have the same antibiotics as they were quite strong?

Don’t delay ttc, there are fertility changes over very short periods at 40+

VimFuego101 · 15/07/2023 17:43

Can you go private to get the wisdom teeth dealt with quickly?

My worry was that if I dont get them removed can it cause any problems for a potential pregnancy? If not then I’d just carry on ttc

I’d say yes to the op and get on the waiting list. Then find out how long it is likely to be and if the operation can be done while you are pregnant or not.

Overthebow · 15/07/2023 17:45

I don’t think you can delay if you’re 40, time isn’t on your side and you’ve already been trying for 2 years.

I tried , they said they couldn’t as I need a GA due to the positioning of them

My SIL luckily got pregnant for the second time at 40 with IVF but I think had a miscarriage and failed cycle in the meantime.

I’ve had friends get pregnant naturally and via IVF in their 40s but as PPs say your fertility drops after it so I’d crack on now, asap.

I don’t understand why you’d need ti delay, just get them removed and crack on?

Why do you think you won’t be able to have wisdom teeth removed straight away?

I didn’t realise that I thought you couldn’t have a GA if pregnant!

I’ll ask as I just thought you can’t have a GA at all it didn’t cross my mind I may be able to

Pay for the teeth to be removed privately and get going with IVF.

WhiteStripePipe · 15/07/2023 17:47

If you’re looking into ivf via nhs it might not happen quickly anyway. They are slow unfortunately.

3luckystars · 15/07/2023 17:47

Do not delay!!!!!!!

They said no and referred me to the nhs as the teeth are in a difficult position for removal

Yep exactly.

Ivebeenwaiting · 15/07/2023 17:49

I think then I will definitely not delay. As long as I can have treatment for the infections if I was pregnant I think I should wait as I feel like I just don’t have the time due to my age
