Songs that make you cry

Made myself a playlist of my most meaningful songs - a sort of 'Desert island Discs' if you will. I was sat listening to it on the bus this morning and when 'Slipping Through My Fingers' by Abba came on, I just couldn't help but get emotional. My son is only six so definitely not flying the nest, but that song just gets me.
I would love to know what songs make others cry?

An common one but The Drugs Don't Work. I'd just moved to Manchester aged 19 and had absolutely no-one. I'd gone to one of the crapper unis and I was sitting in the waiting of student services about a housing problem. This came on (it was when XFM was still there) and I just had to stop myself from crying in case anyone saw me. I knew I'd made a massive mistake- the people were not at all what I expected- but decided I had to stick it out. I was right as the next few years were some of the worst in my life and nothing went right.

The thing is, I currently making plans to move to a nearby city (you know the one, think red and blue football teams) which suits my personality and background more, but I'm terrified that the people will be the same and the same thing will happen again 😕 But I can't bear another year in my small, crap North East hometown

The Green Fields of France (Willie McBride). Heard it for the first time a few months ago - in tears by the time it finished. Had to Shazam - had no idea what it was!

It was my dad's funeral today and we had a slideshow of pictures of him. It was set to Coldplay's Fix You - so that is going on my songs that make me cry list. He loved that song and it just happened to have relevant lyrics!

Supermarket flowers makes me cry every time, and arms of the angels.

Puff the Magic Dragon. My little boy is four now and ever since he was a baby I've teared up thinking about how little boys don't stay little forever.

This is one of the songs that makes me cry as well, I just can't help it! I really love it but can't be through it without tearing up

I'm from Dunblane so "knocking on heavens door" really gets to me as well. Every time I hear it, it takes me back to 1996. I never really knew the power of music till that song

CarelessWispa15 · 24/08/2023 23:37

All we needed - Craig David
You raise me up - Josh Groban

Cocopogo · 24/08/2023 23:39

Angels - Robbie Williams
It was the song for The Christie hospital when my mum was really ill and the line about pain walks down a one way street, it really pulls me apart, even typing that was hard. She passed away recently and played ‘look for me in rainbows’ by Vicki Brown, you should listen to it, that’s has me bawling every single time.
