Has anyone's flight been cancelled? I've a flight booked in September and wonder if I would know if it had been cancelled.

I've had two easyjet cancellations in the past and they always emailed to let me know.

TheLeadbetterLife · 10/07/2023 14:29

Yes I got a notification a couple of days ago about my flight next week. I didn't know it was just Gatwick.

I think it's bullocks, by the way. I'm pretty sure my flight was very undersold (bought the ticket last week, extremely cheap for a Saturday in late July), so they cancelled it to force people to fill up their busier flights.

Hoppinggreen · 10/07/2023 14:32

They did this to us last July with just over the time in which they had to pay compensation for us to go.
We had saved £200 by booking with them over Lufthansa and then had to pay another £800 to book Lufthansa flights.

I’m flying next Monday and haven’t received anything to say it’s been cancelled.

tootrueblue · 10/07/2023 15:57

I'm flying next Thursday and no email yet. Keeping my fingers crossed!

telli · 10/07/2023 15:59

They have cancelled my flight in January to Paris, they wanted to move me to an 8 hours later flight but I said no and they have swapped me to a flight from a different airport instead.

TheSeaDoesntKnowMyName · 10/07/2023 15:59

we're flying on Weds and if they dont take us, then we will claim under EU directive 260

TheSeaDoesntKnowMyName · 10/07/2023 16:00

nope not 260

TheSeaDoesntKnowMyName · 10/07/2023 16:01

its 261

  • Key Points about “Flight cancellation compensation”Flight cancellations can be caused by a variety of factors, such as bad weather, strikes, or technical issues with the aircraft.
  • Passengers have certain rights if their flight is canceled, including the right to rebooking, a refund, or compensation under certain circumstances.
  • If the cancellation is due to reasons within the airline’s control, such as a technical issue, passengers may be entitled to compensation under EU Regulation 261/2004.
  • Compensation amounts vary based on the length of the flight and the amount of notice given by the airline, and can range from €250 to €600 per passenger.
  • Passengers should contact their airline as soon as possible if their flight is canceled, and may also be entitled to assistance and care, such as food, drinks, and accommodation if necessary.
  • Passengers have up to three years to file a claim for compensation under EU Regulation 261/2004.

What are my rights in the event of a flight cancellation?

  • You are entitled to either a ticket refund or a replacement flight
  • You can claim compensation if the airline informed you of the cancellation less than 14 days before the scheduled departure date
  • The amount of compensation is between €250 to €600 per passenger depending on the distance of the flight
  • You are entitled to receive refreshments and beverages during long waiting periods

I got notification 6 weeks before my flight in April.
PITA but there were similar Ryanair flights available for about the same price.
It meant I’d paid twice my travel costs as I opted for a voucher not a refund.

moleeye · 10/07/2023 16:08

I fly in 2 weeks! Haven't received any kind of notification, hoping it stays that way....

dameofdilemma · 10/07/2023 16:17

Yup our EJ August flights have been cancelled. We had the option of switching to another flight on the same day (at 6am, no thanks) or cancelling and they would refund. We switched to a flight to a different nearby airport.

Same thing happened last Summer with EJ.

Superdupes · 10/07/2023 16:23

We've had 4 flights cancelled this year by Easyjet, one in the May half term, one in the summer hols and one in October half term.

2 we were able to move to another flight time. One we had to book for a different month as they cancelled all flights to that destination for that month. One we had to book an alternative flight from a different city and pay a huge amount in train fayres to get there as we were abroad and it was our only way home and it wasn't their fault (air traffic control in France on strike).

Superdupes · 10/07/2023 16:24

*2 in May half term

Snozzlemaid · 10/07/2023 16:27

We had a flight cancelled a few weeks ago after sitting at the airport for 5 hours.

Tried to claim compensation as we lost money on Airbnb we had booked at destination, but didn't get any as they classed the cancellation reason as "extraordinary circumstances”

I would never book with EasyJet again especially hearing of all these other cancellations.

Thesenderofthiscard · 10/07/2023 16:28

yes but it came through as a notification of 'here's your new flight if you don't want to take it you can get a refund.' The time's been moved by a couple of hours which s fine for our plans.
Same thing happened to DF, his was moved to another one an hour later

Thesenderofthiscard · 10/07/2023 16:31

If you're in good health travel insurance is pretty cheap and covers things like cancellation which would cover the cost of disruption on hotels, hire cars etc.
it'll also cover all medical costs now we're not in the EU...

We get a family one because we go the the USA a lot and the only time one of us needed minor medical treatment the bill was $10k!

Ozgirl75 · 10/07/2023 17:26

We’re travelling tomorrow and every time I get a little ping from easyJet (saying things like, you can check in) my heart sinks. Im not from here and I hadn’t realised that they would just cancel flights, I’d certainly never book with them again as it’s taken such a shine off looking forward to going on holiday.
I’ve flown with them before and it was all totally fine, but that was just a long weekend, this is our first proper family holiday in a year.

LlynTegid · 10/07/2023 17:26

Summer happens every year. This is the second year of the Russian invasion of parts of Ukraine.

No reason why these flights should not have been withdrawn ages ago. There needs to be effective laws so there is a real penalty. Perhaps 1700 flight slots being withdrawn next summer, or even over Christmas this year.

notimagain · 10/07/2023 17:46

Summer happens every year. This is the second year of the Russian invasion of parts of Ukraine.

True but demand is higher this summer than last and flight numbers in the last few weeks are finally back to, or even above, 2019 levels.....with the added complication that a massive chunk of airspace to the east of Europe is off limits.

Result is this summer there is even more pressure this summer on the airspace that is available, especially that over south eastern Europe and Turkey.

They are not the only airline struggling with delays, whether they could have handled it differently or not - don't know.

LIZS · 10/07/2023 18:35

Has anyone been notified of new cancellations or is the headline the cumulative number, some of which were withdrawn a while back?

IhaveanewTVnow · 10/07/2023 18:39

My friend’s flights were cancelled at the gate on Sunday flying to Cyprus from Gatwick,

week before colleague had her flight cancelled at the gate flying to Spain from Gatwick.

they don’t care but we continue to book with them.

LIZS · 10/07/2023 19:02

Hmm, so were they rebooked @IhaveanewTVnow or just left standing?
