Easyjet flight cancellations

Has anyone's flight been cancelled? I've a flight booked in September and wonder if I would know if it had been cancelled.

I got an email saying mine was cancelled.

Cloudhopping · 10/07/2023 19:09

We had notification on Friday of a cancellation of a flight coming back from Edinburgh to Gatwick on August 7th. We have been moved on to another one 4 hours earlier which is a pain as it means getting the family and my 84 year old mother up at 5am.

My friend’s flights were cancelled at the gate on Sunday flying to Cyprus from Gatwick,

week before colleague had her flight cancelled at the gate flying to Spain from Gatwick.

they don’t care but we continue to book with them.

That is awful .

Not flown with EJ for some years as they don't fly out of my local airport - but remember they were really bad for cancellations last year as well .

yes but it came through as a notification of 'here's your new flight if you don't want to take it you can get a refund.' The time's been moved by a couple of hours which s fine for our plans.
Same thing happened to DF, his was moved to another one an hour later

Our flight last year was changed to a different airport, and as they had not given us the 14 days notice they had to pay compensation, which was more than the flights (not ej)

We are flying in 31 days and I'm nervously awaiting an email.

Annoyingly we usually fly from Luton. But Gatwick had nicer flight times, so we chose that instead.

Same here. Luton & Heathrow are usually my choice but this time because of Gatwick times, I chose that airport. We’re due to fly next Monday to Turkey so fingers crossed.

Delatron · 10/07/2023 22:22

Any rhyme or reason behind the flights they are cancelling? Mid week less busy ones?

Joshski28 · 10/07/2023 22:46

We were due to be flying to Palma this coming Saturday from Gatwick and received an email on Friday to say both our outbound and return flights had been cancelled but we had been put on alternative flights. Outbound moved to first flight out on Sunday and very late flight back on the same return date. We've claimed a refund and now flying from Heathrow with BA.

A friend of mine had her EJ holiday cancelled when they arrived at the airport last week and the EJ staff were no help at all. They booked with BA and flew out from Heathrow later the same day.

From what I've read it's where they have multiple flights a day to the location so I guess they are consolidating.

Our flight in late July has been cancelled, and we have been moved to a flight much earlier in the day (from a nice 3pm flight to a crap 7:30am flight). We now have to get a hotel over night at Gatwick to make the early flight, plus lose our (non-refundable) hotel booking from the night before as we are in the UK to see family before heading out to Europe.
That is all v annoying BUT..

The most annoying part is that we paid extra to sit in one if the front seats with one large and one small cabin bag each. They've moved us to crappy seats - and have made us pay AGAIN for our cabin bags (plus no refund in our good seats). We've reached out to customer service but nothing back yet.
Something tells me that's the last I'll see if that money...
So we paid extra for good seats, extra for bags, and extra for "better" timed flights in our original booking - and now we seem to have lost those premiums with no refund.

That is really dreadful. Are we all just left to go along with this dreadful treatment?? Are there no customer protections? It's insane.

They did this to us last July with just over the time in which they had to pay compensation for us to go.
We had saved £200 by booking with them over Lufthansa and then had to pay another £800 to book Lufthansa flights.
Feckers

That's awful. For some people that would absolutely ruin their plans. What is the time cut off for these things happening?

All we can do is never book EasyJet from Gatwick again. But I’m also sworn off BA after many flight cancellations with them.

Not sure who is reliable these days. We do seem to have less problems when flying from Luton though. Always seems to be Gatwick.

notimagain · 11/07/2023 09:03

Possibly down to better resourcing for the size of the Luton base and number of movements into/out of there.

Lots of talk elsewhere that the LGW schedule was highly optimistic from the get go... the ATC problems (both current and anticipated) have tipped the operation over the edge.

25sheets · 11/07/2023 09:20

But it seems really unfair that we can't, now knowing there are issues, cancel our flights and book with someone else. Why is that not an option for us? It should be if they can muck us about.

I'm a bit confused and might have missed it but has your flight actually been cancelled?

If it has then Easyjet should IMHO inform you of your options...that's what happened to me in the past with other airlines such as BA....an e-mail offering rerouting or refund.

If it hasn't been cancelled yet then you are basically asking to have the right to cancel any flight almost on a whim and get a refund (I do understand the sentiment in this case)

I know it's all highly unsatisfactory but objectively get into September and the situation at Easyjet may have eased...and in any event and TBH there's always risk of other operators cancelling so you risk jumping from a possible frying pan into a possible fire...

No my flight hasn't been cancelled but they've said that between July and September many, many will. I 'm supposed to be flying in September. I don't know if they will cancel. I don't know when they will cancel if they are cancelling.

What I'm saying is that there is a possibility. I'd like to have the option of cancelling it for myself NOW so that I can make other arrangements. I haven't flown for about 4 years (been wonderful) but now have to be somewhere I can only get to by flying. I feel I am completely at their mercy. Horrid uncertainty for so many people.

There should be some penalty for them. They’ve cocked up, been overly optimistic and then messed up many people’s holidays. Again.

Holidays and flights are so expensive at the moment. Plus post Covid/cost of living. This may be the first holiday for some for years. And we’re all at the whim of whether Easy Jet decide to cancel our flights or not. Quite often with very short notice. Adding a lot of stress and cost to already expensive holidays.

They refunded me £35 for my good seats, cabin bags and speedy boarding but it cost me £59 to rebook them on the new flight.
