I'm away from home today and passing a Lidl which I don't have close by me. What are the nice little gems that you love ?

Their soda water is cheaper than Morrisons.

Last time I went they had the solid block creamed coconut which is hard to find and more economical than a can.

I love the pastries mmmm pain au choc, apple turnover; also the margerita mini pizza from the bakery got DD's thumbs up.

sittingonacornflake · 09/07/2023 13:14

The chocolate hazelnut stuffed doughnuts on the bakery. In fact, anything at all off the bakery.

huhpartytimeisonme · 09/07/2023 13:16

Ooohhh I forgot about the bakery 🤤

I would like to get a 'big shop' so are there any nice pasta sauces, dinner type ideas that you like?

It's good value too, it's in a big square pot not the little round ones

bonfirebash · 09/07/2023 13:30

I've just been
They had frozen pastel de nata £2.99 for 6 which I picked up
Lots of Spanish food in at the minute

ThePoshUns · 09/07/2023 13:41

Portuguese tarts
Greek yogurt
Lamb shanks
Dark raspberry chocolate

ThePoshUns · 09/07/2023 13:42

I like their deluxe pizzas
Steaks are good

WildCherryBlossom · 09/07/2023 13:42

I think my favourite Lidl thing is the Full fat Greek yoghurt. It's the tastiest one around.

For lunches the falafels and seeded flat breads with salad and Tzatziki (if it's Greek week - otherwise make your own with the Greek yoghurt)
Bagels, cream cheese, cucumber

The antipasti is usually pretty good - spicy peppers stuffed with feta, herby olives. Their various nuts are good snacks too - the spicy tomato mixed nuts and the salt and pepper roasted cashews are popular.

For kids snacks and lunchboxes the chocolate coated rice cakes, dried mango strips and forest fruits crispy slices are good. There are sone lentil based salt & vinegar crisps in a multipack (black & blue packaging) which my children are always excited to get in a packed lunch too.

Generally I don't find the fruit and veg lasts very well so I only buy stuff that is likely to get used quickly and top up somewhere else later in the week. I do like the bags of mini seedless peppers though. Tasty, crunchy and keep well.

I don't eat meat but everyone else has enjoyed chilli & bolognese from the organic mince. Also the Aberdeen burgers are popular (served in sesame seed brioche buns). I've also given the family bbq pork ribs with rice & peas quite a few times. They also seem to enjoy the tempura chicken pieces.

Nellodee · 09/07/2023 13:53

Their jars of green olives are really tasty.

OrangeBlossom28 · 09/07/2023 14:15

The Sicilian Lemon Roulade in the freezer section is amazing!

RunsLikeaLittleFatDuck · 09/07/2023 14:54

Anything from the bakery. All fresh and all good.

SoShallINever · 09/07/2023 15:46

I buy the Greek yoghurt , potato salad, batts sauces, masdaam sliced cheese, and salmon portions.
Some of their chocolate is lovely and their granola. Really don't rate their fruit and veg or meat. Bought minced beef once and it was totally disgusting.

MaryJean87 · 09/07/2023 15:50

I love the ready mixed bottles of Aperol Spritz ( Bitterol). Iced tea. Husband likes the XL pork schnitzels when they have them in.

mrsbyers · 09/07/2023 15:52

Cornichons in honey , eating a jar now
their coconut milk is the best around - basically all cream and hardly any water
The honey and mustard salmon slices
All their dairy is great , pots of plain Greek yoghurt especially

Stressybetty · 09/07/2023 15:58

The deluxe Toscana and Siciliana sauces are nice. deluxe basmati rice in the black and red/purple packet. part baked baguettes. pack of 3 chocolate trifles. Frozen deluxe quarter pounders with cheese and onion are great with the cheapy processed cheese slices and brioche burger buns. pain au chocolate from the bakery

RandomMess · 09/07/2023 15:59

Our local ones don't ever stock soda water Angry

Deathraystare · 09/07/2023 17:01

@Imtoooldforallthis

Oh damn you! I had forgotten about this! I love love love it but it is too big for one person.

When I visited mum and dad and they had some I would always sneak to the fridge!

Jellybean23 · 09/07/2023 17:09

I like the multigrain loaf from the bakery. I get one for free when I've spent enough for a free item. It covers loaves and baguettes as well as pastries. But you have to be careful not to have another bakery item in the trolley at the same time as the voucher will offset the cheapest item.

Sidge · 09/07/2023 18:09

Their dishwasher tablets are brilliant. Also their window and glass cleaner, their chilli con carne and fajitas packet mixes and their bread.

IggyAce · 09/07/2023 18:13

Croissants and Portuguese tarts from the bakery. Also like their skyr yoghurt and protein granola.

BarelyLiterate · 09/07/2023 18:23

All of Lidl’s W5 own brand cleaning products are excellent.
Their Chocolate is delicious, as are all the continental cooked meat products (hams, bratwurst etc) as you would expect from a German company.
Greek yogurt is the cheapest and the best.
Their Spanish theme weeks are great, we always stock up on yummy stuff.

IsThePopeCatholic · 09/07/2023 18:23

Gazpacho

Spanielsarepainless · 09/07/2023 18:24

Greek yoghurt.
Butter.
Frozen ready meal of salmon and tagliatelle.
Frozen salmon Wellington.
Own brand chocolate.
Raisin and almond granola.
The various conserves, same as Bonne Maman.
