My best friend forgot as she has a new boyfriend and is out with him.

Fucking hate birthdays.

Happy birthday 🥳. This is why I never rely on anyone on birthdays , I always make plans and take myself out as over the years relying on others it just leads to disappointment . Take yourself out for lunch or buy a takeaway x

i remember spending a birthday all day with my parents. They had completely forgot. Can laugh about it now like but it stung at the time

Happy Birthday op - I once got a cheap bubble bath in a nasty ceramic container from my mother who laughed and said it will be me out in a rash and then commented why the container wasn’t out the next few visits

i felt really loved as you can imagine

Best advice I’ve ever had from mn. If you want your birthday to be anything other than another day - then sort it out yourself. So go and buy yourself that gift you’ve wanted someone else to get you, go out for that fabulous meal you want etc. Don’t hang your happiness on the actions of others.

Definitely book your own treat(s). I've taken to having a couple of treatments at a local spa (they also do discount on your birthday!!). But obviously whatever things you like. I don't have many friends so I'm not likely to head out somewhere, so I make my own day special. My birthday is often in a school holiday so I also book the youngest in holiday club and 'threaten' the eldest with going if they keep asking me to do stuff Grin

I will be booking a full body massage this week for sure. Need my feet painted too. Jusy did a food shop and got my favourite processco to have once i get home tonight

I echo what others said.

The only way to get a special day for you is to plan the day you want. Other people can be unreliable. I'm still a bit "Huh" over a friend who told me she'd got me a somewhat unusual gift this year......In a gift bag there was a paper scroll all wrapped up with tinsel and ribbons and confetti fell out of it as I was unrolling it. I was anticipating a voucher for afternoon tea or something somewhere (we've usually done this sort of thing before!!) but it was a charity gift of a goat 🐐 in Africa.......made in my name and purchased through a religious organisation which isn't my religion!

And I had to hoover up the flaming confetti!

And yes, maybe I am being a bit precious and princessy, but.........

I organise my own birthday. Usually go out up to London on my own. Shopping and lunch. I buy myself nice things and have lunch. Then anything else is a bonus.
