Who do you think is the BBC presenter who has been suspended?

I don't have twitter and haven't seen any theories as to who it is, I'm presuming a man due to the figure outline being used in the press:

No need for a conspiracy theory suggesting that Boris is somehow responsible for these allegations.

Nobody said that. What is true is The Sun have a history of putting “Dead Cat” stories on their front page in order to protect those they support, which includes Johnson. It’s happened numerous times in the past.

ThisWOMANWontWheesht · 10/07/2023 20:08

Of course Boris wasn't responsible for the BBC allegations; however it has proven to be a great distraction, and come from a sympathetic source.

MadamWhiteleigh · 10/07/2023 20:12

The BBC should just stop all the speculation and name the person they have suspended - the latter being made very public, if only to take the heat of other presenters

No they should not. Satisfying the nosiness of gossip-mongers who enjoy salacious scandal should not take precedence over the right of confidentiality of a person who has had allegations made against them, none of which are yet proven.

"Lies, Damned Lies, And Sun Exclusives" used to be the saying.

That has been decided by legislation - the Defamation (Operators of Websites) Regulations 2013. Provided the platform follows the regulations (which set out what they must do when someone complains that they have been libelled), they cannot be sued.

Many thanks.

Why doesn't he say he has deleted them?

Why doesn't he say he has deleted them?

You mean Boris? Because he has already said that he's still got them. They are on the phone that was found to be a security risk and turned off in May 2021. He says he and the Cabinet Office are discussing how the phone can be turned on safely and how the data should be extracted.

Frankola · 10/07/2023 20:33

Yet again The Sun has published stories without confirming the truth behind the accusations. They obviously haven't improved on the integrity of their journalism since Hillsborough.

People need to just boycott the paper at this point

I hope everyone even mentioned in any way relating to these accusations takes legal action

Willmafrockfit · 10/07/2023 20:38

i blame breaking news
24 hours
just as in Every case,
Nicola Bulley
the submersive

it is just fueling the fire

ThreeRingCircus · 10/07/2023 20:43

Florenz · 10/07/2023 19:36

How can we ever be sure that nothing happened and the BBC aren't covering it all up?

This is the issue. IF the named presenter hasn't done anything wrong, you'll get lots of people saying "it's a cover up" or "there's no smoke without fire." This is the problem with people jumping to conclusions/throwing out names/gossiping.

If I was the individual in question and was innocent I'd be getting ready to sue.

WeAreTheHeroes · 10/07/2023 20:44

It's social media that is fuelling the fire, not 24 hour rolling news.

I hope lessons are learned after this. They won't be but it can be hoped between this and Nicola Bulley it may make some people pause and think before they engage in trying to be the first with the news or sharing news without fact checking

Maybe it is true that the mother DID say those things. And that’s all that the Sun claims?

MayThe4th · 10/07/2023 20:46

So a lawyer representing the person at the centre of all this has come out and said that the individual denies anything ever happened, that they wrote to the Sun on Friday and that the paper published the story anyway.

Well quell surprise. Tabloid publishes sensationalist piece of bollocks. Nothing new there then.

And meanwhile people have been throwing names around social media and claiming them as fact, and ruining people’s lives into the bargain.

I hope that the sun and the mother are both sued.

Surgicalnightmare · 10/07/2023 20:47

I'm more worried about the mental health of all parties involved, if this is indeed false.

the80sweregreat · 10/07/2023 20:48

It's all such a mess isn't it?

WeAreTheHeroes · 10/07/2023 20:48

The problem @ThreeRingCircus is that even if an innocent person wins a defamation case there will be those who still believe the original story and think they've somehow won the case on a technicality/because they can afford good lawyers, etc rather than on the evidence. Whenever there is a story of this nature and people start trying to figure out who it is, we should think how we would feel if someone accused us baselessly.

GuinnessBird · 10/07/2023 20:49

If the allegations were first sent to the BBC in May, it lines up quite nicely with the Phillip Scoffield/ITV stories. This really feels like someone seeing pound signs in their eyes and looking for a quick pay-out.

MayThe4th · 10/07/2023 20:52

I thought that.

TBH I said yesterday that I thought it was made up and that the mother was just after £££. And someone told me to read the article because it seemed so genuine. It really didn’t, it read like a load of sensationalist crap from the outset, but people never miss an opportunity to stick the boot into someone.

Frankola · 10/07/2023 20:57

@HokusaiWave The Sun should not be publishing stories that are complete conjecture.

Saying that is OK just opens the gate for any tom dick and harry to contact the Sun making all kinds of accusations without concrete proof and having all of these stories published. The Sun is supposed to be journalism. Not a social media platform.

They haven't investigated anything. Just regurgitated what the parents have told them. And as a consequence social media has been full of male journalists and presenters being accused of all kinds of stuff. Accusations that are defamatory and can ruin not only their careers but also their marriages and relationships.

It's not ethical and it's not acceptable. They did the same thing with Hillsborough and phone hacking and they're at it again.

Frankola · 10/07/2023 21:00

@MayThe4th Earlier on a thread today I asked if anyone else thought the mothers actions might be suspicious or at least looked into and I was ripped apart by one poster who accused me of vilifying the victim...😒

Not to mention what they did to Ben Stokes, which was truly awful.

3dogsandarabbit · 10/07/2023 21:05

If you look at the latest from The Sun they are saying that the parents are standing by what they said and are now questioning who is paying for their child's expensive lawyer. The Sun say they have given all evidence to the BBC and it is now up to them to investigate.
