Mark William-Thomas is a dick but it looks like lots more info is coming in the Sunday papers....

I don't see why everyone so being so snide and 'of course you do" to @SmoothSeasDoNotMakeGoodSailors comment that they know who it is.

There will be a lot of people who know not just within the BBC but journalists in the tabloid media, likely spouses of any of those people, potentially friends of relatives of the complaint and/or their parents, lawyers for all the parties involved.

Mumsnet is a broad church and a lot of people post here. It would be more odd if no one here knew.

It doesn't matter whether they know anyway because the two basic points which are made are good ones

• posting speculation about the identity of a person shouldn't happen because it is defamatory of that person and unfair to them and family (whether parental or spouse/children) because these are such damaging allegations.
• no one here can confirm either way who it is.

Given there has been more than one name mentioned, it is obvious there are wrong people being identified here.

There'll also be a lot of people who think they know. People who've been fed nonsense by people who are or might be in the know.

Why do people ask these questions? There is too much trial by social media nowadays. The phrase "mud sticks" is true. We have seen what happened in the past when people wanted take the law into their one hands e..g Tommy Robinson he nearly ruined a grooming gang trial.

We also had Eleanor Williams who ruined the lives of men and lot of far right groups went against an Asian men saying he has to be a rapist. And another guy who was put in a jail with serious sex offenders because of her false claims and he nearly took his own life.

This is a serious crime if found guilty of this individual of the BBC. If there is enough evidence then his name will be public. I do not understand why people speculate it was the same with Nicola Bulley some social media warriors thought they know the answers and did some very bad things.
