What's the best Disney film?

Recently got Disney + for the kids and I'm really enjoying watching films from my childhood, and new ones too. I watched The Lion King (1994 one) yesterday, loved it as a child but haven't seen it in years, and when Jeremy Irons is introduced as Scar and then they did Be Prepared I felt the hairs rising on my arms! I was glued to the entire thing and as much as I like other old Disney films (the Aristocats, the old Robin Hood, Lady and the Tramp) I nominate The Lion King for greatest ever.

As much as I love the classics, we tend to put on Moana or Encanto

And inside out

Oh yes, Inside Out. Now that is weepy: Bing Bong's self-sacrifice...

101 Dalmations, Sword in the Stone, Robin Hood, Peter Pan

I like the old ones that I remember from childhood.

Aladdin (the animated one with Robin Williams as Genie clearly)
Tangled (just for the horse who is fucking awesome)
Moana
Encanto

and Hamilton (it's on Disney+ it totally counts!)
I may have a bit of a Lin-Manuel thing going on.

I love the lion king but it's beauty and the beast for me.

disney changed the title of that first one in italy for interesting reasons.

Lion king or beauty and the beast

Vetoncall · 08/07/2023 17:22

Wall-E
Up
Toy Story
The Lion King
Robin Hood
The Jungle Book

Haven't seen a lot of the newer ones like Encanto, Inside Out or Coco, but I did like Tangled.

Throughabushbackwards · 08/07/2023 17:46

Wall-e is in my top 5 films in all genres. It's massively underrated!

ConsistentlyPeeved · 08/07/2023 17:58

Little Mermaid and Alice in Wonderland (old timey ones)

Moana- out of the more recent ones

JulieHoney · 08/07/2023 17:59

Most underrated is The Emperor’s New Groove, which is bloody hilarious and endlessly watchable.

”Why do we even have that lever?”

For music it’s Jungle Book, Moana, Little Mermaid, Princess And The Frog, Encanto and Frozen.

Tangled is hard to beat as an all-rounder

Live action, I vote Enchanted - Amy Adams is bloody marvellous in it.

Live remakes, the Beauty And The Beast was pretty good (except Emma Thompson’s Cockney accent) and the recent Mary Poppins sequel has lovely moments.

Hamilton is unmissable.

Classics like Robin Hood and (scarier than you remember) Snow White hold up well.

Peter Pan less so (Red Indians. Yikes)

DuvetCoverNightmare · 08/07/2023 18:02

I love Luca. It’s just such a nice film.

hettiethehare · 08/07/2023 18:09

Moana and Robin Hood.

ilovethecold · 08/07/2023 19:27

Lion king and Pocahontas for me

MESSING2 · 08/07/2023 20:04

Just realised honourable mentions for Up and Ratatouille in my previous post, both brilliant.

Proudofitbabe · 08/07/2023 20:18

Beauty and the Beast, with the Little Mermaid close behind.

Nothing more recent even comes close for me.

Toy Story is the best Pixar one. Still an excellent, clever film!

Oh, should we have included Pixar? All the Toy Story films, Up, Ratatouille, The Incredibles are all outstanding
