What's the best Disney film?

Recently got Disney + for the kids and I'm really enjoying watching films from my childhood, and new ones too. I watched The Lion King (1994 one) yesterday, loved it as a child but haven't seen it in years, and when Jeremy Irons is introduced as Scar and then they did Be Prepared I felt the hairs rising on my arms! I was glued to the entire thing and as much as I like other old Disney films (the Aristocats, the old Robin Hood, Lady and the Tramp) I nominate The Lion King for greatest ever.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
my all time favourite

Can't believe no one said this early.
I also like tangled, Aladdin and Peter Pan.

ghostbusters · 07/07/2023 03:34

Aladdin. Hands down. I had (have, probably somewhere) it on DVD before Disney+ was even a thing, my husband bought it for me 😆

My eldest loved Big Hero 6 as a youngest. He still has the title track on his playlist, and I still know all the words....

Peter Pan for me.

Loin King, Toy Story and Aristocats closely behind. So many favourites though.

Is that the stripper version 😂

batshitmaisie · 07/07/2023 03:47

Pocahontas obviously!!!

I only watched it the other day with 4 YO DD & forgot how much I loved it, the songs are incredible. I always cry at the end too. Without fail. It's 30 years old this year which made me feel my age...

Flatandhappy · 07/07/2023 04:39

Beauty and the beast is my all time favourite.

WideDyedAndLegless · 08/07/2023 00:51

Can't believe no one has said Brother Bear.
It was the last Disney film to be hand drawn, before they all became computer animated.
It's a great film but the sequel is rubbish!

Also love Mulan.

You only had one Disney film on DVD?!?!?!

This is a hard one...

cartoon musical has to be The Little Mermaid, but closely followed by The hunchback of Notre dame and Aladdin.

Non cartoon, it is a toss up netween Newsies and Mary Poppins!!!

Nightmare Before Christmas is one of my all time favourite movies, but while Disney bought it, I have a hard time considering it a Disney movie. Kinda like Star Wars might be Disney, but also not!

Northernsouloldies · 08/07/2023 01:43

The original dumbo, my mum took me to see it early 70s so probably over 50yr ago. I still get teary watching it now.

SingingSands · 08/07/2023 01:45

I've got a massive soft spot for "Cars", it really is one of my top films!

thehoneymonster · 08/07/2023 02:21

I adored Mary Poppins as a child. In recent years I watched saving Mr Banks and absolutely loved it, and it made me see the movie in a completely different light.

Me too, my son loved it from being very young. Cars 2 was a bit of a flop but 3 was also brilliant.

FastandLoose · 08/07/2023 02:34

Tangled
then Beauty and the Beast

Quisquam · 08/07/2023 03:37

My favourite is Mulan!

DS in his 30s, still cries at The Lion King!

transformandriseup · 08/07/2023 03:41

Hunchback

DarkDarkNight · 08/07/2023 03:59

Sleeping Beauty was my childhood favourite, I never get sick of it and it was the first thing I watched when I got Disney +.

Encanto for my favourite modern Disney film. The soundtrack is amazing. I love Coco as well, but it was too sad for my son and had him sobbing a few times.

3luckystars · 08/07/2023 04:12

Coco

nothing comes close to it

Sleeping Beauty - we love the 3 good fairies!

MeinKraft · 08/07/2023 14:43

I watched Coco for the first time a couple of Christmases ago, it was on BBC1, and cried my heart out. I was depressed for the rest of the evening!
