What's the best Disney film?

Recently got Disney + for the kids and I'm really enjoying watching films from my childhood, and new ones too. I watched The Lion King (1994 one) yesterday, loved it as a child but haven't seen it in years, and when Jeremy Irons is introduced as Scar and then they did Be Prepared I felt the hairs rising on my arms! I was glued to the entire thing and as much as I like other old Disney films (the Aristocats, the old Robin Hood, Lady and the Tramp) I nominate The Lion King for greatest ever.

I hadn’t watched a Disney film in decades but watched a few when I was in hospital with a poorly 14 month old DD a couple of weeks ago, a lovely play specialist brought in a tv & DVD player. DD absolutely loved Lady & the Tramp because she loves dogs, might have to invest in Disney+!

PurpleBugz · 06/07/2023 22:36

Brave
Robin Hood
Pinocchio
Inside out
Frozen

The Sword in the Stone for me!

Just remembered Coco I think it may actually be my favourite.

mnahmnah · 06/07/2023 22:44

Both my DS’ loved Hercules and Emperors New Groove. Great music.

Vintagecreamandcottagepie · 06/07/2023 22:44

So glad I'm not the only one coming on to say parent trap!

Little mermaid (old and new), moana

NOT Inside Out! Painfully sad if you didn't have an ideal childhood

CatchHimDerry · 06/07/2023 22:44

Moana for newer, love so many classics but if I had to choose probably Aladdin

toomanyleggings · 06/07/2023 22:46

I loved The Rescuers when I was a kid. Watched it a few months ago on Disney plus and was singing along like a loon

44PumpLane · 06/07/2023 22:48

Christ too many to mention them all!

Robin Hood
Sword in the Stone
Bedknobs and Broomsticks
Little Mermaid
Zootropolis
Big Hero 6
Frozen 1&2
Moana
Encanto
Hercules
Lilo & Stitch

Special mention for Coco for the pure vibrance and richness of the film.

Also, if you enjoy Frozen and enjoy docuseries, the "Into the Unknown: making of Frozen 2" series is possibly one of the best bits of tv I've watched. It was so interesting and so emotional.

Other non fiction series mentions include:
One Day at Disney
Behind the Attraction
Magic of Disney's Animal Kingdom
The Imagineering Story

Ipadannie · 06/07/2023 22:48

I love Coco. And Up

HomeSeck · 06/07/2023 22:49

Coco!

But honorourable mentions for Hercules, Big Hero 6 and Aladdin.

peanutbutterjellytime22 · 06/07/2023 22:49

The Little Mermaid for me. But Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast and Lion King are all fab too. I do prefer the cartoony old ones to the Pixar ones. I remember the first Toy Story being visually amazing but then it just became the norm and lacked the charm of the old ones imo.

I do think between Disney and Pixar they churn out so many films now that none of them are particularly memorable or special. Recent ish ones I've enjoyed are Bolt and Frozen.

Vintagecreamandcottagepie · 06/07/2023 22:49

Never made it past the first 10 minutes of Up 😭

WickedUsername · 06/07/2023 22:49

Bambi still makes me cry! The dc love Big hero 6 and Encanto.

OutsidInInsideOut · 06/07/2023 22:49

Beauty and the beast

OrTheBearsWillGetYou · 06/07/2023 22:50

Mary Poppins

Emmamoo89 · 06/07/2023 22:50

Lion king 🦁

SingingWaffleDoggy · 06/07/2023 22:50

Very old: Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Mary Poppins and Sword in the stone
A bit old: Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King
Newer: Moana and Encanto

evtheria · 06/07/2023 22:51

The Aristocrats, Lilo & Stitch, and Mulan (cartoon)

NashvilleQueen · 06/07/2023 22:52

Coco
Big Hero Six
Zootropolis

Fifiesta · 06/07/2023 22:53

Another vote for Beauty and the Beast - the musical score is stellar and in perfect balance with the story and the animation.

SabrinaThwaite · 06/07/2023 23:01

Mulan, The Jungle Book and The Aristocats, for cartoons.

The Incredible Journey for live action (although it makes me cry buckets).

Davros · 06/07/2023 23:02

You should watch:
Dopesick
Pistol
Welcome to Wrexham
Not your usual Disney cartoons though 😂

Loopyloooooo · 06/07/2023 23:04

Coco, UP, Bambi, Lion King and Mary Poppins (in that specific order 🤣).

MeinKraft · 06/07/2023 23:04

WhisperingAutistic · 06/07/2023 22:31

Some of the newer ones are really good! Moana, Frozen and Frozen 2, Tangled.
I still love the oldies though, Aladdin, Mulan, Beauty and the Beast etc.

I really like Brave actually!
