If your dining room walls were this colour, what colour would you paint this table?

Walls are Valspar Jam Jar and buying these chairs andntable to further sand then paint.

I have no idea what colour to do. I like things quite unusual.

Wood work will be all white. Ceiling white, floor is mid-warm wood.

I would keep the table neutral.

beeskipa · 05/07/2023 09:36

Yep, I'd leave the table as is.

SoDarnCool · 05/07/2023 09:41

Nooo. I don't do neutral! 🤣 Boring.

I'm not normally a fan of painting wooden furniture (hate seeing beautiful MCM sideboards 'upcycled' in paint!) but as your table has painted legs already, I'd consider just repainting or staining the legs in a darker colour - not full black gloss but a softer effect, possibly even a matt navy rather than the usual grey. Although it would have to be low maintenance and be prepared for regular touch ups!

You could also look at waxing or staining the surface. I'm not an expert but there are a lot of different wood treatments that would change or enhance the natural wood without hiding it the way paint does. It would probably need sanding and other prep work first - there are a million videos out there which would show you how to do a good job. If you're on Instagram, try searching for things like 'upcycling dining table' and see if anything appeals.

I'd go with matt black, but I'm a goth, sooo...

CubDeCap · 05/07/2023 09:44

I'd go sage green - for contrast - with black painted chairs.

Persiana · 05/07/2023 09:44

If you do want dramatic, I'd go for a dark grey with a blue undertone. Or even navy might work

Hobbygoblininahat · 05/07/2023 09:46

Black (matt) almost like a carbon colour

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 05/07/2023 09:46

My first thought is you’d have a very contemporary colour which is totally wrong for that style of table.

I’d stain it in a dark brown.

Caspianberg · 05/07/2023 09:47

Keep wooden top.
Paint table legs navy blue
paint chairs all slightly different shades of blues and greens

Littlemissprosecco · 05/07/2023 09:48

Black/ charcoal, or navy
Please show is when you’re done!

Stained dark brown wood and black are on trend at the moment. 😊

I work in architecture and it's overtaken the grey trend.

Or sand back the whole table and legs and re oil neutral. Then pint the chairs different colours like the picture

bussteward · 05/07/2023 09:49

not what you asked but the woodwork would be better to match the wall colour, otherwise it’ll all look a bit broken up and bitty.

Daffodil yellow for the table? Or what about stripping and bleaching/lyeing the table and doing the chairs in 2-3 mismatched colours. My preference is plain wood and white walls though…

CatherinedeBourgh · 05/07/2023 09:50

I would paint the legs navy. Stain the top darker wood or greyish wood. Paint the chairs all different colours.

AmbleInAnnBoleyn · 05/07/2023 09:53

The style of table and chairs does not match your uber modern stair.

I would paint the tabletop a very dark matte. Blue or maybe almost black.

Chairs as per Caspian's photo.

AdoraBell · 05/07/2023 09:54

I would either go for navy blue or green.

Howtohideasausage · 05/07/2023 09:55

Teal or pale blue. My kitchen is valspar passionate peony and I have a (boring) white table but with one purple, one orange, one yellow, one pink and two baby blue chairs. But I don't do neutral either.

That's a stock photo, my dining room is victorian 😂

Me too! But I love a pop of colour. Alot of my accessories are gothic.

Definitely a green. You could go for a mossy colour or quite dark bottle green.

And I agree. Life is too short for boring colours.

Ooooh

Paint the table dark emerald green and use gold leaf on the legs!

I go for odd decor… it’s a running joke with my friends about my ugly rugs and weird furniture.

I like dark green with pink.

Or you could paint the table legs to match the walls and the table top to match the ceiling, and do the chairs bottom half pink and top half white. I live in a Victorian house and did the half this half that to match the walls at the bottom and above the picture rail at the top and I love it.

KPops22 · 05/07/2023 10:03

You just need to be careful with some of the table colours to avoid that Mexican diner look.
