I think I've been doing periods wrong

Please help a sister out. Which way round do these things go?

What is the flower supposed to represent?

And what are those two bird things?

I have a feeling I've spend the last 30 years getting it wrong.

I think I've been doing periods wrong

@Soubriquet I think you're more normal than me as most people seem to prefer wings, I'm just a weirdo who avoids them if possible Grin

BertieBotts · 05/07/2023 08:41

Longer at the back. Because when you sit down gravity will cause all the blood to seep around.

I've always thought exactly the same. I've been doing it wrong all this time too then!

Same!

Alargeoneplease89 · 05/07/2023 08:43

The bird / squiggle things look like a bum to me ( two cheeks)

ohwhatafunday · 05/07/2023 08:43

Yes I mostly agree.

Though sometimes I seem to get certain periods where everything powerjets forwards with great enthusiasm.

darkdeepandwithsauce · 05/07/2023 08:43

Sanitary towels are just gross. It must be like wearing a nappy. How anyone can bear to wear one is beyond me. To then have to bag it & bin it too. No thanks. Non-applicators only for me.

But appreciate we are all different and prefer different things

Southlandssue · 05/07/2023 08:44

Same as you @bonfirebash which ever way works best for you. TMI my flow tends to go forwards so I go for more protection at the front.

I can’t stand tampons…I tried them once when I first started and couldn’t get on with them at all. Yes I’m a lot older now, but I’m still extremely sensitive internally. Even sex with dh has to be a bit careful as it can cause pain. Pads all the way for me

I know you quantify your remarks at the end but it's a bit shit to just say "sanitary towels are just gross".

Not everyone can use tampons or mooncups or whatever.

Oh dear, does that mean you flush your tampons down the loo rather than bagging and binning?

Nope, I hate wings too!

I’m a cup user but I have obviously used my fair share of pads during my lifetime and I also find the wings to be irritating and pube pulling nightmares!

I know how this sounds but… I really loved my maternity pads after my most recent birth though! 😂

I don’t think they had wings. They were from Waitrose. Maybe they had a duck on the pack? I can’t really remember now. But they were so comfortable and fresh feeling. I gave the last of my supply away on Freecycle and the woman actually messaged me to say how much she loved them too.

No asshole targets on those though. I mean, why would there be? I suspect it’s all just one homogenous mess after 3 kids and 3 rips. 😂😂

Mumtothreegirlies · 05/07/2023 08:50

I buy the cheap pads/tampons without the decor. I think mine cost 95p and last me 2 periods and I don’t have to worry about which way it goes.

JanesBlond · 05/07/2023 08:50

I thought the ‘birds’ are arrows showing which direction is forwards

heldinadream · 05/07/2023 08:51

RepresentationalBumcheeks is just begging to be snapped up as a username! I don't want it so fill yer boots. 😂

ohwhatafunday · 05/07/2023 08:54

Can I aso just get off my chest how fucking ANNOYED I am at SCENTED pads. Yet they seem to be the default now and I have to sniff all the packs like a loon in Tesco trying to figure out which are unfragranced.

That was cathartic, thank you.

theemmadilemma · 05/07/2023 08:56

"Always pads should be worn in the recommended orientation intended by design - with the purple 5 drop icon positioned towards the front of your underwear. This is communicated visually on pack."

DorisElward · 05/07/2023 09:01

Tampons are just gross. It must be like walking around with a dildo inside you. How anyone can bear to wear one is beyond me. To then have to bag it & bin it too. No thanks. Reusable pads only for me.

thespy · 05/07/2023 09:04

Well this is interesting - but why can't they have longer bits both sides - I think I've got a design flaw because leaks always seem to happen up the front end so I have to put the pad further forward, but then the wings are in the wrong place. Im perimenopausal so very irregular these days but when I do get a period it's a bastard. Possibly a world record has been set for the number of sanitary products used at once.

BadNomad · 05/07/2023 09:06

I'm a double-pad girl. Long bit up the front and long bit up the back. Never even noticed there was a design.

Backstreets · 05/07/2023 09:07

Thank you for this thread op 🤣🤣🤣
Will never unsee *️⃣

I was going to say similar. It makes general sense to have the longer bit at the back, but there are days when I need more front... er... protection!

Yeah, haven't used pads for years until last year when peri started kicking in. I can't wear the heavy duty tampons as they're too uncomfortable, but flooding a medium one AND a pad within the hour was a lifetime achievement for me...

Sorry - TMI! Thank heavens for an anonymous forum of likeminded women!

SaysRelaaxxx · 05/07/2023 09:20

I always put the wide bit at the front because that’s where I bleed most - don’t usually bleed towards the back of the pad. Pretty sure that’s the opposite way to how it is intended to be worn, but it works for me!

You have to bag and bin tampons too, you know. They do not dissolve and damage and clog the sewers, septic tanks and water treatment centers.

Do you even realize that when you shove them down the toilet, that at some point, someone has to fish them out and remove them correctly? Whether it's in the sewer or at a treatment plant?

Firsttimecaller · 05/07/2023 09:23

Those birds/squiggles are arrows pointing to the front. So they go at the back. Outer wrap usually indicates direction as well?
