Hey,

Iv revieved universal credit for a while, single mum. I don't currently work. Iv been asked to provide a copy of my passport and 4 months worth of bank statements. Has anyone else had this and know why they've asked to see them?

Could just be a routine check or they think you have money coming in from elsewhere or something ?

RedOliver77x · 02/07/2023 14:11

I did read about routine checks to see if people were getting what they are entitled too, just thought it was abit odd and invasive wanting to see 4 months worth of bank statements, seems as they know i haven't got a job and where else they would think I had money coming in from.

It is a bit odd. Do you think the passport is just for ID verification ? You haven't come from abroad recently or anything like that ?

RedOliver77x · 02/07/2023 16:30

No I havent come from abroad or anything. Yer I understand, it probably is just routine check but worried me thats all.

Babyroobs · 02/07/2023 16:43

Try not to worry, like you say it is probably just a routine check. If you have no other money coming in from anywhere else then they will be able to see that form the bank statements and there won't be a problem. Child maintenance payments if you have those coming in are not counted for Uc and it is fine for family to make monetary gifts.

Centrepiece · 02/07/2023 17:48

It's ID verification. They'd normally do it before you start receiving UC so if they didn't, they're getting to those who missed their verification especially during the lockdown.

Anonmum123 · 13/07/2023 16:13

Hi, I’ve just been asked the same.

Have you heard back from them?

Whoam · 13/07/2023 16:17

Hi I just received a message in my journal saying they are reviewing my UC claim to make sure they are offering the right payment and support and they will contact me within 7 days with more info and to confirm my details.
I suffer with really bad anxiety and this has made me think wtf.
But when I googled I think people are picked at random. But still worrying

Anonmum123 · 27/07/2023 15:46

Anyone heard back? I’ve only heard back today.

They’ve mentioned an interview but given no details.

Lovelys88 · 25/08/2023 00:34

I have received a messaged about a review and hearing in 7 days what do they want to see it’s making me worry don’t know why but I wish it wasn’t the waiting to hear x

AdviceAppreciated1 · 13/09/2023 16:37

Hello. I have just received a message in my UC journal today about this too. It says

We are reviewing your Universal Credit claim to make sure your payments are correct. As part of the review, you will need to send us information to confirm your details. You will get a separate journal message about this. We will update you in the next 7 days with more information.

Anyone who has been through this, I would really appreciate it if you could let me know what happened and what the timescale was please???

I suffer very badly with my mental health and have already been really unwell with it recently and suffering physically as well and barely any sleep, so this is the last thing I need.

Thanks so much in advance

I had this message a few days ago. A couple of days later they asked for
Photo ID (I don't have any)
4 months bank statements
Proof of rent
Proof of education for dc (both post 16)
Council tax/utility bill

DS1 (19) has actually left education. They told me in August I wouldn't get the child element for him anymore on account of his age so not sure why they now want Proof. I didnt "let them know" he'd left college because I didn't think I needed to.

I've got until 25th September to provide it all.

AdviceAppreciated1 · 13/09/2023 16:54

Hi @imnotwhoyouthinkiam

Thanks very much for your post. Sorry you have this too. I guess you can only let them know that you don't have photo ID and see what they say.

Hope it all goes okay for you.

imnotwhoyouthinkiam · 13/09/2023 17:02

Last time I had to take birth certificate and some other stuff instead. I need to contact them. It's just stressful.

AdviceAppreciated1 · 13/09/2023 17:08

Hi @imnotwhoyouthinkiam
I'm sorry, it is so stressful isn't it. I hope it all goes well. x

Try not to worry. I had this beginning of August, I uploaded all the info they asked you for and then I had a call. Just basic questions. It was all ok. I suffer badly with anxiety and got myself in such a tizz. Please try not to worry. We have been picked at random.

AdviceAppreciated1 · 13/09/2023 17:21

Hi @Whoam

Oh thank you so much, I really appreciate it. Glad it all went ok for you. Sorry to hear of your anxiety too. I hope you find some relief. x

How's you? Have you heard from UC again after submitting all your documents

Hi @imnotwhoyouthinkiam
I'm sorry, it is so stressful isn't it. I hope it all goes well. x

Well I uploaded everything they asked for, told them 3 times that ds1 isn't in education any more so can't provide proof of education for him. I've also taken him off the child part of my claim and added him as "another person I live with"

They've decided I have to have an in person meeting and take further documents. They haven't specified which documents. It says "ID and other relevant documents " for people I live with. So I assume ID for my dc.

They've also stopped both child elements (one child is still in education so I should be receiving it for him) meaning that when I get my UC on Friday I'll have enough to pay my rent, then I'll have £200 left for everything else.

And before anyone asks wwhy I'm not working, I'm assessed as LCW although I'm hoping to go back soon. DS1 is looking for a job but no success so far.

I haven't felt this anxious for months

There was an article about a month or 5 weeks ago in a newspaper saying reviews would be happening with parents with older DC. I think it said something about raising the hours claimants must work or be searching for work. You should always advise them of any changes. If your D's left education you must know you can't claim for him anymore. He's no longer a DC but an adult. If he's not working he can claim in his own right and if he is working he can pay his own way now. You'll probably have to repay anything you've been overpaid by not informing them.

I've since informed them 3 times. They are still asking for proof hes in education.

I didn't tell them initially because they wrote to me saying it would automatically stop at the end of the school year on which he turned 19 so I didn't think i needed to tell them.
I shouldn't have been overpaid for him as I haven't had a payment since August, which is the end of the school year, so surely he still qualified.

caringcarer · 26/09/2023 18:10

@imnotwhoyouthinkiam most Year 13 kids did there last day of school in June not end of August. I know CB doesn't end until the end of August but as your son is over 18 and no longer in education from the end of June you should have told them then. Not waiting for them to write to you asked Ng for evidence of him still being in further education.

imnotwhoyouthinkiam · 26/09/2023 18:15

@caringcarer UC credit runs until the end of August following their 19th birthday if they are still in education. So that will be the end of August this year. Which is when I claimed it until.
I knew it would stop then. I'm not concerned that it stopped then. We have discussed him paying rent.

Are you sure you're not getting confused with child benefit which runs until 31st August ?
