I'm so annoyed with my shape :(

OhOhFionka · 02/07/2023 10:33

I've lost 7 stone.

I'm 5ft5 and 11 stone.

I'm trying to find shirts for holiday and even the size 16s are tight on me.

When I was 7 stone heavier I wore size 20/22 but I never ever wore trousers or shorts because I just couldn't fit in them.

So even after 7 stone loss I'm going to have to buy size 18 shorts for holiday for them to not be cutting me in half.

All my weight is on my stomach.

I'm just so sick of my shape and buying size 18 when I'm 11 stone!

Sorry shorts. Not shirts. I'm a 12 up top.

I’m a size 18 and nearly 14 stone so that doesn’t sound right. Have you tried various brands of clothing? Do you have a lot of excess skin perhaps?

Carryonkeepinggoing · 02/07/2023 10:44

Buy the shorts that fit, cut the size label out. Probelm mostly solved.
Enjoy your holiday doing all the things that were that much harder when you were 7 stone bigger. Be proud of how far you’ve come. 7 stone is 1 huge achievement and you will have made a massive positive difference to your current and future health and you will have opened up new possibilities for yourself.
Set yourself another health/body goal that’s not based on a number - an exercise based one might be good. So try a couch to 5k or build up to a walking trip (daytrip or multi day) that you’ve always wanted to do, or set yourself a challenge to swim x distance or join that yoga/pilates/dance class you’d felt was out of the question 7stone ago.
Or pick a day out you couldn’t realistically do before but that you can now - theme park with rollercoasters? Weekend Citybreak involving carrying your bag on all the public transport?

Is the problem loose skin op?

Carryonkeepinggoing · 02/07/2023 10:46

Sizes vary enormously between shops too. And between styles - I can get away with a much smaller size high waisted flowy skirt than I can fitted jeans.

PrincessofWellies · 02/07/2023 10:47

Exercise. Worth paying for a personal trainer for a couple of sessions to improve muscle tone and work on your abs. Well done on the weight loss.

I can't wear anything 'rigid' it has to be elasticated.

Congratulations on your weight loss, loosing 7 at is amazing. I carry weight around my tummy and bought a few pairs of lovely shorts from fat face for holidays, super stretchy waistbands but still quite dressy, these were my favourites:

Backstreets · 02/07/2023 10:52

I’m an apple too. Great isn’t it 👍

OhOhFionka · 02/07/2023 10:53

They're nice but OOS and out of my price range. I'm talking primark prices, 😂 I won't wear them at home. So don't want to spend much.

OP, huge congratulations on the weight loss, that in itself is such a huge achievement. I feel like you are being very hard on yourself with clothes labelling.

Clothes labels are bollocks and vary from shop to shop so I really wouldn't get too bogged down with it all. I remember being a size 12 in my 20s and then not fitting into a size 18 in H&M, it's just an arbitrary made up number (probably to make women feel insecure about their bodies)

Plus elasticated waists are soooo much more comfy and allow for one to have a meal and not be cut in half afterwards! Honestly don't know why all jeans at this point don't have it

somethingischasingme · 02/07/2023 10:56

I like the op suggestion of cutting the label out. Im a size 12 top and 12-14 bottom and have finally found where I was going wrong with buying a flattering swimming costume. I now have 3 beautiful size 18 costumes for my holiday. My daughter is a size 10. She has a beautiful pair of size 16 shorts- she wanted to take them back because of the size so I cut out the label - problem solved 😊

somethingischasingme · 02/07/2023 10:57

Pp not op

ItsCalledAConversation · 02/07/2023 10:58

11 stone is heavy at 5 foot 5 though. Size 16 sounds reasonable if you’re struggling with chest/stomach measurements. It’s not about how much you’ve lost, it’s about what you are now.

Sheselectric77 · 02/07/2023 10:58

Size means nothing these days op. You just have to try everything on in different shops and find a size that fits. Even the same shop might differ. There is so much variation.
Also I’m a pear shape. It’s difficult to find bottoms that fit my shape. Most clothes seem to be made without taking into account the actual shape of womens bodies.
Well done on your weight loss.

I was looking at similar styles in SHEIN too so you might get something there for cheaper.

I’ve always found tummy last place I loose weight (and boobs - classic apple) and first place I put it on.

OutsidInInsideOut · 02/07/2023 11:44

Matalan had some of those patterned loose ones.
Alternatively lycra shorts. I see so many wearing them lately, comfy. Primark had some colored and patterned ones the other day so more summery.

OutsidInInsideOut · 02/07/2023 11:46

Ffs 11 stone isnt that heavy for 5ft 5!
Jesus!
She lost 7 stone! That's an achievement. Everyone's body shape is different.
Im 12st.7 and 5ft 5. Im a 14 bottom. A 16 top ( large boobs).

My friend got a load of those style of shorts from Primark, they’re really flattering!

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 02/07/2023 12:13

I can empathise, I have great legs, they're nicely shaped and toned looking (I can take no credit for this just a fluke of luck) but I'm apple shaped so all my weight goes on my belly which means in order to wear trousers or shorts I need a bigger sized waist so the legs are baggy and look crap. It also means because my waist is bigger than my hips that I have real problems finding comfortable knickers that don't roll/fall down.

Can't really advise on a fix although if I'm completely honest, when I used to go swimming 3 times a week and do strength exercises my posture was better and my body more toned which did make a difference with the belly fat. Didn't get rid of it but having a more toned core and a straighter back meant clothes fit better and looked better.

Slightly random thought OP, but depending on whether or not it’s relevant to your personal situation, have you thought about taking a pregnancy test?
An acquaintance once explained to me that her 2nd child was a total surprise, she was losing a significant amount of weight but she found the fat would not shift from her stomach. Turns out she was 5 months pregnant…

I'd have been pregnant for 11 years, I've always been this way since my last pregnancy. It's nothing new. Periods very regular and DH had snip decade ago. Definitely not pregnant
