Do you think the unrest will have fizzled out by then?

I wouldn’t go to France this year to be Frank.

BonnieBobbin · 01/07/2023 02:00

I'd decide next week but be prepared to cancel. Being in an area with riots or/and a curfew isn't how I'd choose to spend my time.

AgileMadness · 01/07/2023 04:39

Same here OP. We're supposed to be going on the 13th so we're watching how events unfold.

Kay286 · 01/07/2023 04:44

Nope I just couldn’t but I’m very risk adverse ! I think the worry and anxiety id have constantly whilst there would be immense and ruin it anyway - but no I would not be going

Smoleymoley · 01/07/2023 05:05

I’m there now and to be honest I wouldn’t even have known it was happening if family from home hadn’t been in contact and told me. And I’m staying in the centre of Paris.

TheCyclingGorilla · 01/07/2023 05:22

Protest is what the French are good at. It's part of their culture. Along with everything else the country has had to put up with from the gendarmerie and the government over the past few years it's not surprising that society is rising up. I say, fair play.

Despite that I'd put my tin hat on and still go. Paris is fabulous. You're more like to get hurt by the rudeness you encounter than a flying incendiary. I've visited during riots before. Just walk away from the hoo-ha, and you'll be fine.

Frenchfancy · 01/07/2023 05:40

I wouldn't hesitate. This isn't like the normal protests in France, this is teenagers on the rampage. It'll be over in a couple of days.

justtype · 01/07/2023 05:51

Thé French love to protest. I wouldn't let it stop my holiday. Paris is a big city.

Fluffyhoglets · 01/07/2023 10:03

I'm travelling then to Paris with a nervous child and not sure whether to go or not. I keep thinking that there are always protesting in France but this feels different

Barbie222 · 01/07/2023 10:04

We're travelling on the 17th, no plans to cancel.

Bholli · 01/07/2023 11:31

Ok seems like we need to err on the hopeful side then!

Berlinlover · 01/07/2023 11:38

Yes.

Hbh17 · 01/07/2023 11:43

The unrest/riots themselves are not the issue, because you can steer well clear. The problem will be if Macron declares a State of Emergency, which will shut down a lot of public transport and put in curfews. It won't make for a fun holiday! In addition, the FO may warn against all but essential travel to France. So it is official responses you need to watch out for, and it's too early to say what the French Government might do.

BonnieBobbin · 01/07/2023 11:44

Check the FCO advice daily. It's a volatile situation and the FCO advice will be updated to reflect that.

Mayhemmumma · 01/07/2023 12:01

Oh blimey I'm going to Disneyland me plus two children, I've never travelled abroad with them on my own. We were planning a Paris day trip as well.

MooFroo · 01/07/2023 12:46

Same question here - but nervous and will see what FO advice is next week. Planned it ages ago and already changes dates once

Maddy70 · 01/07/2023 13:16

It wouldn't put me off at all

FoodieToo · 01/07/2023 13:32

We are travelling on the 9th, no plans to cancel. Flying from Paris on to Greece for the rest of our holiday so have to get there really !!

Maddy70 · 01/07/2023 13:42

I live in Spain and go to France frequently I also have friends living there. British press love to report inaccuracies. Yes these protests are happening but they are nothing like being reported. It's not even reported on here go and enjoy your holiday

BonnieBobbin · 01/07/2023 14:20

The riots aren't only being reported in the British media. All the international news agencies and media are reporting about France atm.

LawksaMercyMissus · 01/07/2023 14:22

FluffyFlannery · 01/07/2023 01:54

I wouldn’t go to France this year to be Frank.

Why?

dancingsands · 01/07/2023 18:14

Heading there next Saturday, not concerned

Dazedandconfused10 · 01/07/2023 18:18

I'm travelling on Monday, and have no plans to cancel unless the advice changes between now and then

SunnyEgg · 01/07/2023 18:27

I’d go op

Although I’m surprised that apparently Spain isn’t reporting it at all in pp

Bholli · 02/07/2023 19:27

The rioting affected the champs elysees last night. I hope it dies out soon!
