So I've never listened to a podcast before but I want to get into them!
I usually listen to an audiobook whilst cleaning and I find it makes chores much more enjoyable 😅
But now I'd like to try a podcast but there's so many out there I have no idea where to start!
Any recommendations of a podcast for a listening newbie? 😊

My current faves are:

Parenting Hell by Josh Widdicome and Rob Beckett is great. Started in lockdown talking about parenting in lockdown, but still release episodes twice a week, once a week they interview some celeb with kids. Hilarious and relatable. I’m simultaneously listening to new releases and old lockdown ones.

my dad wrote a porno - is a podcast by 3 friends, one of the 3’s dad wrote a porno mill/boon style book, and the son reads it aloud to his 2 friends. The porno is hilariously shit and the friends take the absolute piss out of it. I had to stop listening to it on my train commute as I was crying with laughter.

pretty much every celebrity has released a podcast though now, on every topic!

Off Menu - asking celebrities about their perfect meal

Help I sexted my boss.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 30/06/2023 22:13

I love We Didn't Start the Fire - modern history, they do one topic from the Billy Joel song each week. It's actually just finished and I'm going to miss it - hoping for some new suggestions too!

Came on to say parenting hell too, only discovered podcasts very recently and this one had me hooked. Hilarious, snorted on the tube this morning listening to an old one.
Have tried a few off menus but didn’t quite hit the spot for me,

eish · 30/06/2023 22:16

As always it depends on your tastes!
you need to work out if you like true crime, we’ll being, food, comedy. You can like them all (I do) but for some people they don’t like certain genres.
British scandal
for good investigate journalism I like things produced by Tortoise Media (you can search for this)
in the dark for crime (the first series covers a child murder so you can skip that one and start with series 2 if not for you. Eye opening into the American justice system). Australia tends to make good crime podcasts too.

I like some of the radio 4 humour in bbc sounds, the news quiz, unbelievable truth etc

there are lots more!

thenightsky · 30/06/2023 22:17

Uncanny on BBC sounds.

eish · 30/06/2023 22:17

Also things fell apart with Jon Ronson is good

weathervane1 · 30/06/2023 22:17

Another vote for My Dad Wrote a Porno... I listen to it whilst walking... get some very strange looks due to my uncontrollable laughter. Nothing else comes near except perhaps Joan and Jericha (agony aunts)

CaptainHammer · 30/06/2023 22:20

No idea of your tastes but some I like are -

The Taskmaster podcast
Three Bean Salad
Hell or High Rollers
Off Menu
Gig Pigs

doyouwanticewiththat · 30/06/2023 22:21

Uncanny - brilliant and scary !

theDudesmummy · 30/06/2023 22:22

I listen to the following ongoing ones

No Such Thing as a Fish
The News Agents
The Rest is History
Bed People
You're Wong About (I am not in alignment with them on the culture wars but its an interesting podcast)
Owning It

Specific time limited ones
Fever (about the origins of Covid)
I am Not A Monster
Please Protect Abraham

theDudesmummy · 30/06/2023 22:22

Oh and My Dad Wrote A Porno, have listened three times all the way through. Funniest thing ever.

Littlelighthouse · 30/06/2023 22:28

Thank you for your suggestions! Going to try some and see which fit me! 😊

Shagged Married Annoyed by Chris and Rosie Ramsey

It has me laughing so hard it hurts.

Usually has 3 sections

Intro/what they've been upto/general chat

What's your beef, where they tell each other something the other has done that's pissed them off that week

Questions from the public, stories, icks(things people do that turn you off), questions, advice etc...

It's just so funny and easy to listen to, it can get quite sweary, gross, sexual themes etc so I listen when the kids are at school

determinedtomakethiswork · 30/06/2023 22:37

That sounds exactly the same format as the Peter Crouch and Abbey Clancy one.

thenightsky · 30/06/2023 22:38

I really wanted to like Bad People, but the presenters' voices were far too annoying.

ShakeYourFeathers · 30/06/2023 22:49

Something rhymes with purple- Giles Brandwith and Susie Dent talk about the meaning and etymology of words and language in general

No such thing as a fish

Shag married annoyed - Chris and Rosie Ramsey discuss they're lives and comment on listeners who write in with there stories

ShakeYourFeathers · 30/06/2023 22:50

@honeynutcornfllakes described Shagged married annoyed much better than I did

ThoseClementineShoes · 30/06/2023 23:54

The Boring Talks - people talk about topics which seem boring but are interesting to them. Loved the episode on doormats.

Nomorenonbinary · 01/07/2023 00:11

NooNakedJacuzziness · 30/06/2023 22:13

I love We Didn't Start the Fire - modern history, they do one topic from the Billy Joel song each week. It's actually just finished and I'm going to miss it - hoping for some new suggestions too!

This sounds amazing

FinanceLPlates · 01/07/2023 05:55

99% Invisible - it’s vaguely about urban design but just has many fascinating and interesting stories.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 01/07/2023 06:06

Depends what you like or find interesting.

There's a podcast section under film and tv.
