Can I just leave them out on the side covered up in Clingfilm ? They won't defrost in time in the fridge

I always defrost that way

Choice4567 · 28/06/2023 10:03

Yes just defrost on the side. That’s what I’ve always done, thought that was the regular way 😳

sunlovingcriminal · 28/06/2023 10:03

Yup. Leave them out... I do that daily with most meat we defrost.

dementedpixie · 28/06/2023 10:03

That's how I defrost everything

glast · 28/06/2023 10:03

Well, my mom always did that but dh gets food paranoid ! But he's not too know is he

Yes leave them out I very rarely defrost in the fridge. Sausages don't take long to defrost I break them apart.

watcherintherye · 28/06/2023 10:07

The only food I wouldn’t do that with is chicken and rice! And I try and put it back in the fridge as soon as it’s defrosted, especially in this weather.

TeaAndStrumpets · 28/06/2023 10:08

Yes of course unless they are in a large pack. If you can put them in a deep bowl of cold water that will speed it up. I buy thick sausages from the farm shop and freeze 2 at a time for DH as I don't eat them. Dropped in water they take about 4 hours to defrost. Also handy for chops etc.

Peony654 · 28/06/2023 10:09

Of course just leave them on the side, in the packet (clingfilm unnecessary). Isn't this the normal way to defrost stuff?

DrownLoad · 28/06/2023 10:09

Spread them out on a metal baking tray. They'll defrost much more quickly that way. Turn them now and again.

RoseBucket · 28/06/2023 10:09

I would separate them from each other (just on the plate not in different places around the fridge… ) and put in the fridge but that’s only because the weather is a little warmer but as others say it’ll probably be fine.

Mrsjayy · 28/06/2023 10:11

I sometimes leave food In the microwave while it defrosts mine is in a shady part of the kitchen so I feel it's safe in the heat.

I used to have a defrost tray I bought in woolworths a million years ago I had to bin it, I didn't even think that a baking tray would do the exact same thing 😳

Happiestathome · 28/06/2023 10:13

I put mine in a sandwich bag in a bowl of cold water and refresh the water every 30 minutes turning the bag over. Give yourself a few hours. They may defrost quicker. Once done, cook or put in the fridge for later. If your husband is fussy like me, you’ll find on the internet that this is a safe recommended method.

mindutopia · 28/06/2023 10:17

Yes, I just leave out. Put in the fridge later if they seem de-frosted and you won't use them for a few more hours. Or defrost in microwave closer to time you need them.

glast · 28/06/2023 10:17

I've just put them separated on a plate and covered in Clingfilm. We don't get any sun at all in the kitchen so not worried about the heat, not that the sun is even out here

I've got a defrosting tray and sausages defrost in a few hours. If it's overnight I hide them in the microwave so the cat can't get his greedy paws on them.

whatatime · 28/06/2023 10:20

Absolutely fine to just leave on the side, it's rare that I remember to take something out of the freezer enough in advance for the fridge to do the job!

Sunglassescase · 28/06/2023 10:22

People on here are bats, just leave them on the side in their packet. Do posters seriously sit turning packets of sausages in cold water every 30 minutes?!

TravelDazzle · 28/06/2023 10:25
