Totally OTT primary school 'leavers' celebrations

Am I a crap mother because I really don't see this as an amazing achievement?

I just feel like for the last two weeks the whole class have been totally hyped up and there's been far too much talk of 'their journey' and 'being soooo emotional' and all of this nonsense of the prom. Thankfully we could afford it but it was ludicrous! Some of the girls had full make up and tans.

I think it's a lovely thing in secondary school but absolutely not in P7.

Sorry, dopey me, I misread the post and didn’t realise the reference to primary school proms.

It still stands - for primary and secondary!

At DDs school they had leavers hoodie, an assembly and a leavers tea.

When it was just before 1pm they laid out a red carpet and had a piper for the leaving p7s to come out.

It was nice and no fuss. DD is only going into p3 in Aug so I have a while to see what they'll do by then.

Ooh, ours had leavers hoodies, a leavers party, a leavers achievement assembly, a leavers Mass, and a leavers play. All in the same week. It was exhausting but the kids enjoyed it.

Could.they not have rolled the Mass and Achievement ceremony together?

ChickenMacaroni · 03/07/2023 17:51

Here we have got leavers' hoodies, leavers' play, leavers' graduation and a week of fun activities in school. The disco will take place in school hours.

DD is also going out for afternoon tea straight from school with a few friends. It feels like a decent-ish balance, and keeps it contained into a 2 week period rather than ramping up the tears for months in advance. There are 90 children in her year (together since nursery) going to about 8 schools between them, so it is the end of an era.

Not really @Sugarfree23, Mass was in church and achievers in school, plus both lasted too long to merge. I would have been asleep 😴

Christ I thought I was the only one, I seem to be at our school. The endless WhatsApp messages, I’ve had to mute it.

So far we’ve had leavers hoodies, leavers play, leavers assembly, an upcoming trip to build rafts, pizza in the park and a BBQ/water fight with the teachers.

Some of it has happened, some of it is to come and someone (me) has really had enough.

Your school break up early! We all finish on Friday 21st July round my way 😐

I used to dread this time of year when I worked in a primary school... the build up, the anguish, the pressure. I managed never to go along on the night but saw pics, suits a certain personality but if you don't have it ... a nightmare 😬

I think that children who went through the pandemic years and still got results really should be celebrated. They have worked harder to gain the same knowledge that children attained prior to Covid, so yes, absolutely they deserve a happy closure to their primary years.
